Chapter 177: Chapter 175 Fishing

Xiao Bai’s phone fell to the ground, and An Zihao’s voice came through, "Brother Bai, what happened to you?" He had just seemingly heard Xiao Bai cursing at someone.

After enduring the soreness, Xiao Bai immediately saw the blood droplets on the ground. Touching them with his hand, he yelled out "Fuck!" in anger again.

Ignoring An Zihao’s fussing from the other end of the phone, he directly closed the door and headed to the bathroom.

Son of a bitch!

Dares to hit me!

Do you know who I am?

I am Chuchu’s second brother!

You think you, a pig-slaughtering dolt, can dream of Chuchu? With me here, you can forget about that fancy dream in this lifetime!

...

Xiao Bai covered his injured nose, seething with hatred, and ranted for a while before he felt slightly better after venting the frustration in his heart.

Then he picked up the phone again, assigned An Zihao some tasks, and after hearing An Zihao whining from the other end of the phone, his explosive mood somewhat improved.

After leaving Wan Chu’er’s apartment block, Jiang Kechu called Chen Ke and asked him to dig up some information on Xiao Bai, then drove straight home.

When he arrived home, Mrs. Jiang and Jiang Xiaoxiao were there, along with a middle-aged woman and a young man who seemed like her son.

Was Jiang Xiaoxiao not answering the phone just now because of them? Jiang Kechu wondered as he greeted his mother without showing his inner thoughts.

Mrs. Jiang was pleasantly surprised to see him, "Didn’t you say it would be over a month? You came back so soon?"

Then she remembered the guests in the house and introduced them with a smile, "Lizhen, this is my son Ke Chu, and this is mom’s classmate, your Aunt Lizhen and her son who have just returned from Europe."

Jiang Kechu politely greeted them and then found an excuse to go upstairs.

A while later, Jiang Xiaoxiao also went upstairs and saw her brother packing his luggage. She asked in surprise, "Brother, are you going on a business trip again?"

Jiang Kechu made a noncommital "Hmm".

Unperturbed by her brother’s succinct reply, Jiang Xiaoxiao continued, "Mom’s classmate wants her son to transfer to our school, and she mentioned something about me looking after him. Our mom really thinks I don’t know what she’s up to, considering how young I am."

She glanced at her busy brother, her eyes twirling with gossip as she asked, "Brother, what’s really going on between you and Wan Chu’er? She doesn’t seem to be very into you, I hope it’s not all going to be in vain, right?"

Jiang Kechu paused for a second, then calmly replied, "No, it won’t."

Jiang Xiaoxiao exaggeratedly let out a sigh of relief and said, "That’s good to hear. When can you bring Chuchu home then? It’d save mom from worrying and meddling around to the point of bothering me."

She remembered Wan Chu’er’s words about wanting to stay single for life and wondered if her brother could actually win Wan Chu’er over. No, with her brother being so dashing and talented, there shouldn’t be any problems!

Ha ha, she was really looking forward to seeing Wan Chu’er’s wife-like demeanor following her brother home. Then she’d tease her with her past statements about being a staunch single.

Jiang Kechu quickly finished packing and headed out.

Neither Jiang Xiaoxiao nor Mrs. Jiang asked where he was going, as Jiang Kechu’s job often required confidentiality, and it wasn’t for them to casually inquire about.

It wasn’t until he arrived at the train station that he found out today’s train to K province had already left, and the next one wasn’t until tomorrow. Jiang Kechu frowned, thought for a moment, and bought a ticket for a train going to the neighboring province.

Today, the school closed for a day, giving everyone a chance to relax.

Early in the morning, Li Guohui was all buzzed and clamoring to go to the river to catch fish and hunt rabbits in the wild hills behind.

Lately, he’s gotten quite chummy with a few of the mischievous kids in his class and extracted quite a bit of information from these local kids.

The river was supposed to be lots of fun, with plenty of fish and shrimp, and the wild rabbits upon the hill tasted especially delicious when roasted.

Li Guohui had long been enchanted, mentioning almost daily that he had to try fishing and hunting rabbits at least once, or his trip to Heyang Village would be for nothing.

Since their arrival, aside from the first day when the village party secretary welcomed everyone with some meat, they hadn’t seen any meat again, going half a month without any fatty foods had everyone’s mouths almost tasting bland.

Therefore, many were keen to join Li Guohui’s rallying call, and after Mr. Zhang consulted Principal Yu for a while and learned there were no dangerous animals in the hills, he agreed.

Eight of them were split into two groups by Mr. Zhang: one group was in charge of fishing in the river, and the other would go up to the hills to hunt rabbits.

Wan Chu’er, Mai Qiqi, Zhou Weining, and Yang Fan formed one team for fishing, while Mr. Zhang led Li Guohui, Huang Zhao, and Li Jia as a pair to the mountains to hunt wild rabbits.

Wan Chu’er and Mai Qiqi ignored Yang Fan and only occasionally exchanged a few words with Zhou Weining.

After asking the villagers for information, the four took a bucket and a basket woven from willows and headed down the hill.

To fish in the river, they had to navigate a complicated route from Heyang Village on the hilltop down to the river north at the base of the hill.

The treacherous mountain terrain meant that just descending took them an hour.

Once down the mountain and on the riverbank, Mai Qiqi threw down the basket and sat with a plop, "I’m dead tired, I should’ve gone rabbit hunting."

Wan Chu’er laughed: "Rabbit hunting means running all over the mountain after rabbits. It wouldn’t have been any easier."

Rolling up her sleeves, Mai Qiqi said, "If we don’t get to eat meat today after all this effort, it’ll all have been for nothing."

The riverbank was five to six meters wide, covered in sand, with crystal clear water yet to be polluted, a refreshing coolness brought by a light breeze in the sweltering summer day.

Zhou Weining looked around and said, "I’ll go check out the water first to see where the fish are and find a convenient spot for fishing."

"Sounds good."

Wan Chu’er walked to the water’s edge, tentatively dipping her feet, a refreshing sensation causing her to exhale - it felt wonderful.

From a distance, Yang Fan glanced at the water, and then at Wan Chu’er standing in it, finding her pale, bare feet particularly jarring. He lowered his head, his thoughts obscure and indecisive.

Soon, Yang Fan returned with a smile, "Ahead, there are some large rocks, and there are fish in the water there. We can catch fish by holding onto the rocks."

So, they all took their buckets and baskets and followed Yang Fan forward.

They didn’t walk far before seeing a pile of large rocks stretching from the riverside to the middle of the river, the smooth and clean surfaces almost inviting one to lie upon them.

Mai Qiqi walked over and peered into the water, soon shouting, "Quick, there’s a fish here, as big as a hand."

Wan Chu’er hurried over with the bucket, but they just couldn’t seem to catch any fish with it.

Zhou Weining climbed onto the rocks, tethered the basket with a rope, and tossed it into the water. After several attempts, he finally caught a fish, and everyone got excited, clamoring onto the rocks.

The stones weren’t far from the water; lying on them with an outstretched arm could easily reach the water. All four knew how to swim, and they had a great time playing.
