Chapter 41 Her inexplicable Temperament
Chapter 41: Chapter 41 Her inexplicable Temperament
"There’s no need to deny it. I was near Yaowang just now, and I saw you with Si Yuhuan..." Dad fell silent.
"Let’s ask him to join us for dinner tonight."
Jian Xi, "..."
Dad must have misunderstood something!
At that moment, Si Yuhuan also received a call. A sense of urgency flashed across his handsome face. "I’ll drop you off at the old house, and then I need to handle some business at the company."
Jian Xi showed understanding. "No need. I’ll take a taxi home to see Mom and Dad. You go ahead if you have things to do."
"That’s fine." Si Yuhuan was about to leave when Jian Xi stopped him.
"Even though you helped me out today, I won’t use Jiang Qimeng."
Si Yuhuan said indifferently, "Her being the spokeswoman wasn’t my intention in the first place."
Watching his car speed away, Jian Xi fell into deep thought. If it wasn’t Si Yuhuan who made Jiang Qimeng the spokeswoman, then who could it be? Si Junyan! That damn bastard. He’ll get what’s coming to him sooner or later.
「 」
As soon as Jian Xi got home, she was immediately scrutinized by her parents sitting in the living room.
Their four eyes stared intensely at her, as if trying to bore holes through her.
Jian Xi sat down and cozied up to her mother, Zhang Xi, in a childishly endearing way. "Mom, Dad, you’ve got it all wrong. My visit to Yaowang with Si Yuhuan today was purely for work."
She couldn’t say that Si Yuhuan had suddenly taken it upon himself to teach her business out of the blue—her parents would misinterpret the situation even more.
Dad was skeptical. "Si Yuhuan had a meeting today with the multinational corporation Zhihuan Technology about chip development. Your brother even went there early to prepare. How could he end up chatting about work with you all the way to Yaowang for no reason?"
"Spill it! Have you two reconciled? Is Jiang Qimeng no longer an obstacle?"
Did Si Yuhuan really have such a big deal to discuss today? He hadn’t mentioned a word about it from start to finish. No wonder he left in such a hurry after getting that call.
Jian Xi pursed her lips, feeling like something was off. Unless he’s lost his mind. Otherwise, why the sudden change in behavior? She considered a possibility: he knew Jiang Qimeng was the culprit behind today’s steel frame collapse, and he also knew she hadn’t pursued the matter further—doing so would have made things difficult to resolve. Was this a case of Jiang Qimeng delivering the slap, and him offering a sweet consolation? That had to be it!
"I told you to invite him over for dinner tonight..."
"Dad! You just said he’s very busy and doesn’t have time."
Jian Xi hadn’t mentioned her parents’ dinner invitation to Si Yuhuan at all.
She wanted to enjoy her parents’ affection all to herself.
"Dad, Mom, I recently found a private kitchen with especially good food. I’ll take you there to try it."
She wanted to make up for her neglect of her parents in her past life. Back then, she had been utterly infatuated, her eyes and heart filled only with Si Yuhuan. Now, she only wanted to love herself and her family.
"Alright, we’ll do as you say." Dad readily agreed. It was rare for their usually sweet, adorable, and sensible daughter not to be revolving around Si Yuhuan, and he and his wife were delighted to finally receive some of her affection.
Before dinner, Mom pulled Jian Xi into the bedroom and handed her a bank card.
"I don’t know why you suddenly decided to go into business. You’ve been secretly acquiring so much Silicon Crystal without letting us make a fuss about it, and now you’re even starting a clothing brand for young people. Your dad and I figured you might not have enough money on hand. Take this for emergencies. If it’s not enough, come back home for more."
Inside, Jian Xi was sobbing a river, but on the outside, she had to put on a brave face. "Mom! You and Dad are so good to me."
She indeed needed the money, so she accepted it without polite refusal.
However, Jian Xi quietly wrote an IOU.
This was a debt she would repay, with interest, someday. She was now married and establishing her own career; she couldn’t keep depending on her parents indefinitely.
The family of three arrived near the restaurant.
Jian Xi was parking the car.
Wan Yu called. "Girl, after eating the breakfast you ordered this morning, I had a massage and took a nap. I was feeling refreshed and in a great mood, but guess who I just ran into at the bar?"
"Who?" Jian Xi couldn’t help but be curious.
Her parents were already urging her.
Jian Xi parked and got out of the car.
"Jiang Qimeng, that mistress! She was actually drinking at Moonlight and had quite a bit, attracting a group of men trying to take advantage of her. I was all set to watch the drama unfold when suddenly Si Junyan rushed over to play the hero. How can she be so lucky, always turning misfortune into good fortune?"
"Have you never considered that she might have arranged everything deliberately?" Jian Xi countered.
Her words hit Wan Yu like an epiphany.
"That mistress is incredible, playing both Si Family men like a fiddle."
"Yeah, I can’t talk anymore, gotta hang up. I’m eating with Mom and Dad."
Jian Xi’s parents grumbled, "What were you chatting about for so long?"
Jian Xi took her parents’ hands, one on each side, and said, "It’s nothing. Let’s go inside."
While her parents were busy ordering, Jian Xi went to the restroom to call her older brother.
"Big Brother, are you at Haohan Group now?"
"Yes, Sis? What’s up?"
Her brother on the other end of the line sounded busy; the bustling noise in the background suggested he was discussing something with a business partner.
Jian Xi cut to the chase. "Nothing much. I just wanted to ask if Si Yuhuan is there as well."
"No, he said he had some urgent matter to attend to and didn’t come to the office."
"Okay, I understand. It’s just that Mom and Dad wanted him to come over for dinner tonight, so I was just casually asking."
Jian Xi hung up the phone, her heart sinking.
Si Yuhuan had disappointed her greatly.
During dinner, Jian Xi maintained an air of forced cheerfulness for a while, but her mother eventually saw through her act.
"Xixi, what’s really going on between you and Si Yuhuan?"
Dad also put down his chopsticks.
"Weren’t you talking about divorce? How come you’re involved with each other again? Is there something troubling you that you can’t talk about?"
Jian Xi’s mother pressed, "Could it be that your brother’s project is too closely intertwined with Haohan Group?"
Her parents truly were veterans of the business world; their minds worked incredibly fast, Jian Xi thought.
She immediately denied it. "Mom, Dad, don’t jump to conclusions. We do plan to divorce, just not right now."
At the moment, she couldn’t get half of the family assets that Si Yuhuan would willingly give her, nor could she avenge herself and her entire former family.
Jian Xi’s mother sighed. "Your dad and I are getting older. We don’t ask for much, just your happiness and well-being. We don’t want you to go through any more hardships."
"Mom, Dad, don’t worry. Your daughter has changed. I’m not the naive girl I used to be. I definitely won’t let myself be sad or heartbroken again. I will be very happy, very blessed, because I have you and my brothers!"
Hearing Jian Xi’s repeated assurances, her mother finally relaxed.
The family was halfway through their happy meal when Si Yuhuan arrived.
The sight of this uninvited guest instantly sent Jian Xi’s anger soaring to an unprecedented peak.
"What are you doing here?"
He wasn’t accompanying his precious ’white moonlight’ or busy with his great career; instead, he came here to disrupt their lives. What on earth were his intentions!
Jian Xi’s hostility baffled Si Yuhuan.
He couldn’t help but frown deeply. "Big Brother said Mom and Dad wanted me to come over for dinner. When I got home, the servant told me you were all here, so I came."
He had arrived weary from his journey, and before he could even say anything, she was already giving him a hostile look. Si Yuhuan’s pride wouldn’t allow him to be treated this way. He asked coldly, "Since I’ve come at an inconvenient time, I’ll leave now."
