Rebirth: Divorcing the Billionaire
Chapter 39: Everything is a Misunderstanding

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Everything is a Misunderstanding

Jian Xi picked up Wan Yu, who reeked of alcohol and seemed to have drunk quite a bit the night before.

She lay limp in the passenger seat, her muffled moans indicating her discomfort.

"Have you eaten anything?" Jian Xi asked helplessly. This friend of hers really worked herself hard.

Wan Yu shook her head. "I don’t want to eat. I have no appetite. Let’s go for a facial first."

"What facial? Eat first. Then I’ll take you for a massage and skin care. I’ve booked a room for you there; you can go straight to sleep."

"Oh my God! True sister at heart!" exclaimed Wan Yu, flailing wildly like a happy child.

Jian Xi hadn’t expected to run into her nemesis. She had deliberately avoided the road where Jiang Qimeng was shooting, but unexpectedly, Jiang Qimeng had apparently followed them to another main road.

Wan Yu’s sharp eyes caught something. "Stop the car!" she exclaimed instantly.

"Yu Yu, we need to have breakfast first," Jian Xi said, not wanting her friend to get involved with that ruthless woman.

Wan Yu wouldn’t stand for that. Whoever dared to try and steal her best friend’s man, she’d teach them a lesson they wouldn’t forget!

"Eat what? They’ve bullied us enough! If we don’t teach her a lesson today, she’ll really think we’re afraid of her."

Wan Yu despised those who acted deceptively pure and innocent. She rolled up her sleeves, ready to charge in.

Jian Xi slammed on the brakes urgently.

The car window was tapped. Jiang Qimeng’s assistant appeared, flashing a practiced smile that showed a standard eight teeth. "Miss Jian, Miss Wan, my sister Mengmeng would like to invite you for a drink. Would you join us?"

Hmph! Jian Xi thought. She hadn’t gone looking for trouble, yet here they were, flaunting themselves.

Jian Xi rolled down the window. "No time."

The assistant’s smile faltered for a moment before she continued, "We’re colleagues, after all. We’ll be seeing a lot of each other. It wouldn’t be a bad thing for you to get along with my sister Mengmeng, Miss Jian."

"What a joke! Just some minor internet celebrity, and she thinks she’s a big shot? She actually wants to have a meal with our Xixi? Who does she think she is? Get lost!" Wan Yu showed no mercy and gave the assistant no face, starting to cause a scene the moment she stepped out of the car.

Jian Xi could tolerate it, but Wan Yu couldn’t.

Why should they suffer Jiang Qimeng’s provocations after already enduring Si Yuhuan’s anger?

It didn’t take long for Wan Yu to turn the place upside down.

The director and filming crew frequented this area and knew something of Wan Yu’s reputation, so no one dared to intervene.

Jiang Qimeng put on a tearful, aggrieved expression. "Wan Yu, how can you be so rude? What have I ever done to make you target me like this? If you don’t want me as Yaowang’s spokesperson, I’ll just leave."

"Fine! Then get lost!" Wan Yu retorted, hands on her hips, as she started tearing at the huge poster Jiang Qimeng had deliberately placed at the intersection.

However, the support structure behind the poster was flimsy, and the metal frame began to topple.

In the nick of time, a dark figure dashed forward to shield Jiang Qimeng.

Jian Xi found herself the center of the unfolding disaster, the metal frame now toppling directly towards her.

Shouts of "Get out of the way!" echoed in her ears.

Jian Xi’s limbs went stiff.

She was probably going to end up in the hospital again, she thought.

BANG!

Someone wrapped an arm around her slim waist, pulling her into their embrace.

Jian Xi found herself enveloped in a mixture of tobacco and sandalwood scents—a familiar aroma that brought a profound sense of security.

"How on earth do you manage your affairs?" Si Yuhuan’s voice was calm, yet it carried an undeniable authority.

Jian Xi could feel the vibrations in his chest as he spoke.

The director, extras, and crew members were terrified. They scrambled to apologize, promising it wouldn’t happen again.

Jiang Qimeng shoved Si Junyan aside.

Jealousy flashed in her eyes. She had initially thought it was Si Yuhuan shielding her, but to her surprise, it turned out to be Si Junyan, who had arrived with Si Yuhuan.

Jian Xi slowly processed what had happened and stepped out of Si Yuhuan’s embrace.

"Thank you," she murmured, her voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz.

Si Yuhuan’s body stiffened slightly; he hadn’t expected Jian Xi to be so formal with him.

Wan Yu rushed over, full of apologies. "Sob, sob, sob... I’m so sorry! I had no idea the frame was so flimsy. It broke as soon as I pulled it! It nearly hit your cute little head. You really would have become a little fool!"

Just as Jian Xi was about to comfort her, she heard Jiang Qimeng’s assistant wailing, "Director Si, you didn’t see how overbearing Miss Jian’s friend was! She got out of the car and immediately wrecked the outdoor set we spent all day preparing! I don’t know who’s backing her to make her so audacious!"

"You might as well just say I put her up to it!" Jian Xi retorted, exasperated.

What a feisty little troublemaker, she thought. It seemed this was a trap laid for them all along!

"Miss Jian, I never said that. But your friend here is truly throwing her weight around," the assistant said, drawing herself up and slinging mud.

Si Junyan, ever the sycophant, was the first to speak up. "Big Brother, look how outrageous she is! Miss Jiang is an artist we hired at great expense. Her looks are her livelihood! If that huge frame had fallen on her, wouldn’t her career be ruined? Such malicious intent!"

His handsome face was filled with disdain for Jian Xi, even as he carefully concealed his concern for Jiang Qimeng.

His words feigned impartiality but were clearly biased.

Jian Xi, intimately aware of their relationship from her past life, watched their clandestine display of affection and felt an urge to applaud their performance.

How could Jiang Qimeng bear to use such a pure-hearted man!

They were both part of the Si Family; couldn’t Jiang Qimeng take a step back and find happiness with Si Junyan?

But no, being so materialistic and aspiring to be China’s top socialite, the wife of a billionaire, she would never deign to be with Si Junyan.

"Right!" Jian Xi declared. "I also think the person who caused this incident is malicious at heart and should receive the punishment they deserve."

This woman must be insane, Si Junyan thought. She was courting death, again and again!

Jian Xi walked over and kicked the flimsy, wobbly frame. She turned back to Jiang Qimeng with a smile. "Even for outdoor sets, shouldn’t attention be paid to the quality of materials? Ensuring the safety of all personnel is paramount, especially for large-scale outdoor scenes. Can the crew not even manage basic tasks? Since when can thin iron sheets be passed off as structural steel for erecting giant billboards?"

Her professional instincts kicked in, and her mind raced, clearly formulating the accusations.

"This is either illegal practice by the crew, with suspicion of fraud and intentional injury..."

The crew and the director immediately grew anxious. This concerned the entire team’s reputation, and no one dared to treat it lightly. They hurriedly pleaded, "Miss Jian, it’s truly not our fault! We selected high-quality materials for the construction. It was Miss Jiang’s assistant who had them replaced at the last minute. She claimed the original materials were too crude and unrefined, not at all elegant, and unsuitable for Miss Jiang, so she ordered us to change them."

The assistant’s face paled drastically. Her earlier boldness vanished, and panicking, she looked pleadingly at Jiang Qimeng.

"What are you looking at me for? Who authorized you to make that decision?" Jiang Qimeng fumed, her eyes reddening as she pointed at the assistant. "If you don’t understand professional matters, don’t use my name to throw your weight around! Now that this has happened, do you finally realize your mistake?"

The assistant nodded frantically, like a chicken pecking at grain. "Sister Mengmeng, I know I was wrong! I won’t dare do it again! I really didn’t mean to!"

What a well-rehearsed act, smoothly turning everything into a mere misunderstanding.
