Chapter 36: Chapter 36: It’s Up to You Whether She Stays or Not
When Grandfather decided to visit the company, the reception was naturally a grand affair.
Si Yuhuan personally came downstairs to greet him.
After three years, Grandfather once again stepped into the nearly hundred-story skyscraper, a structure symbolizing the commercial power center of all of China—Haohan Group!
The executives lining both sides bowed their heads respectfully in welcome.
"Grandfather, why did you come in person?" Si Yuhuan asked, unable to resist glancing at Jian Xi, who stood beside Old Master Si.
Jian Xi couldn’t be bothered to look at him. Our recent intimate encounter did nothing to make him show me even the slightest tolerance when it came to protecting Jiang Qimeng, she thought. This damn scumbag! He deserves for Grandfather to deal with him!
"What’s wrong? Are you unhappy that I’ve brought my granddaughter-in-law to inspect the Group?"
Si Yuhuan suppressed his anger and forced a smile. "How could I be?"
The more astute individuals among the staff immediately took note. The Old Master had specifically emphasized the words "granddaughter-in-law." Everyone turned to Jian Xi, silently committing to memory that the future matriarch of the Si Family was not someone to be trifled with.
The deterrent effect was quite potent; Jian Xi felt that the way these people looked at her had changed.
Yan Qing reported that the head of Fenghuang Entertainment was already waiting inside.
"You’re busy," Old Master Si said. "Xixi and I will just watch from the side."
Si Yuhuan had no opportunity to refuse, as the Old Master had spoken decisively.
Soon, a large group followed them. The managers from the Investment and Planning Departments, in particular, trailed closely, treading carefully for fear of any misstep. Some quick-witted assistants had even already handed Jian Xi a cup of coffee.
At the conference table, the head of Fenghuang Entertainment had already laid out the project cooperation plan.
Thanks to Grandfather, Jian Xi also received a copy. After reading it carefully, she understood that Haohan Group was mainly responsible for investing in venue construction and product selection, while all other operational planning had to adhere to Fenghuang Entertainment’s directives.
This venture capital firm is incredibly overbearing! Party B is practically calling all the shots! she fumed internally.
This also reflected how much effort Si Yuhuan had to expend, even deigning to undertake such a thankless venture, all to promote Jiang Qimeng. To appease Jiang Qimeng, Si Yuhuan had likely gone to great lengths and, of course, spent a considerable amount of money. Jian Xi meticulously noted down every expense; she intended to get back every single cent from him, sooner or later.
Jian Xi could see the problems with the contract, and naturally, Old Master Si could as well. However, Grandfather’s priority was to make his future granddaughter-in-law happy.
"Since you’ve already reviewed the details and found no issues, signing the contract is fine," Old Master Si declared. "However, before signing, I wish to add one more clause." He then looked at Jian Xi and continued, "I will personally add an extra one hundred million to the investment, to be used for the promotion of my granddaughter-in-law’s Yaowang Brand."
"Grandfather!" Si Yuhuan exclaimed, a hint of anxiety in his voice.
Jian Xi relished seeing him flustered yet powerless. "Thank you, Grandfather," she said quickly. "I will work hard to make Yaowang a success."
She wasn’t genuinely interested in business, but if Si Yuhuan opposed it, she was determined to do it.
The doors were suddenly pushed open.
Jiang Qimeng hurried in. When she saw Old Master Si was also present, she was visibly shocked for a moment before quickly trying to ingratiate herself. "Grandfather, I’m late. I apologize."
Her manager had informed her that the people from Fenghuang Entertainment had arrived early at Haohan Group. She had rushed over but was still too late. She had thought she would be confronting Jian Xi directly. Relying on Si Yuhuan’s guilt towards her, she had felt confident about winning today. However, she hadn’t expected Old Master Si to be there too. She secretly glanced at her manager, who quickly lowered his head. How could she have known that Old Master Si, who had publicly declared he would no longer interfere with company affairs, would be here? Today feels like Mars is about to collide with Earth, she thought.
"It doesn’t matter whether you’re here or not. You’re just an ordinary streamer, not fit for such an occasion," Old Master Si stated coolly. He had never liked her, always finding her appearance unsettling; otherwise, he wouldn’t have forcibly separated Si Yuhuan and Jiang Qimeng years ago and arranged the match between Jian Xi and Si Yuhuan.
With a stern expression, he ordered the bodyguards, "Remove her!"
Jiang Qimeng’s eyes instantly reddened, and she began her gentle, innocent rabbit act.
That damned Si Yuhuan, predictably, fell for it. "Grandfather," he interjected, "I invited her. She is also someone Haohan Group will focus on cultivating and is slated to be the face of our future e-commerce platform."
Such blatant defending, no longer bothering to hide it.
Jian Xi gritted her teeth in anger. Last night felt like I was defiled by a pig!
"How audacious!" Old Master Si exploded, clutching his chest, visibly enraged. "Is the success or failure of a project to depend on a female streamer?"
Jian Xi hurried over to soothe his back.
Old Master Si patted her hand reassuringly. "As long as I draw breath, no one will entertain such crooked thoughts." His stance was crystal clear.
Tears streamed down Jiang Qimeng’s face. "Grandfather, I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have come. I’ll leave now."
Si Yuhuan held onto her wrist. "Grandfather, she is a member of Haohan Group and has already signed a contract. We cannot breach it."
Considering Si Yuhuan’s usual filial piety, his current stance was astonishing.
Such skillful maneuvering, Jian Xi thought, having witnessed it all.
Soon, she too was drawn into the vortex of this struggle.
Si Yuhuan was forcing her to choose.
"Xixi, don’t be afraid," Old Master Si said. "With Grandfather here, whether she stays or goes is your decision."
Si Yuhuan stared at her, his eyes filled with unspoken threats.
Should I take advantage of this to get some benefits and keep Jiang Qimeng around to torment her? Jian Xi hesitated. Or should I prevent her from joining Fenghuang Entertainment just to spite her?
Then, someone else made the decision for her.
The renowned yet discreet head of Fenghuang Entertainment, Zhang Xuan, made an unexpected appearance.
He was a handsome, refined gentleman, likely in his fifties. He was well-built—clearly a fitness enthusiast—with healthy skin and a mature charm. Dressed in haute couture, he exuded an air of distinctive elegance.
Jian Xi found him vaguely familiar.
After greeting Old Master Si, he turned to Jian Xi with a smile and asked, "Jian, my girl, don’t you recognize me?"
"Uncle Aiwen?" Dormant memories surged, and Jian Xi suddenly recalled that he had been her second brother’s first agent. The two were now as close as blood brothers. She had never expected him to be the man behind Fenghuang Entertainment.
It seems like every man gives Jian Xi special attention these days, Si Yuhuan thought bitterly. Especially the way she just looked at Zhang Xuan—was that adoration? She never looks at me like that. An overwhelming sense of discomfort washed over him.
"You know him?" His words were tinged with jealousy.
Zhang Xuan laughed. "Her second brother, Jian Chuxin, was my very first male artist. He’s now an international top star and a Golden Elephant Award winner."
Jian Xi also felt a surge of pride. After all, her second brother was now a national idol, renowned worldwide—a true honor to their ancestors.
Everyone here today is siding with Jian Xi, Jiang Qimeng thought, growing anxious. What should I do? She unconsciously tightened her grip on Si Yuhuan’s sleeve.
Si Yuhuan turned to look at Jiang Qimeng. Jian Xi’s gaze followed. She couldn’t hear what they were saying, but she guessed he was surely comforting Jiang Qimeng.
That kind of tenderness... he’s never shown it to me, not even in bed. It would be a lie to say she wasn’t jealous. Jian Xi clenched her fists tightly.
