Chapter 15: Chapter 15: The Irremovable Chewy Candy
He was fuming, clearly having just been berated by Jiang Qimeng and now looking for Jian Xi to vent his frustration on.
Jian Xi was so infuriated she laughed.
She had originally asked Wan Yu to delete it, but now she’d changed her mind.
"Why should I delete it? Don’t you love people knowing we’re living together, all ambiguous and unclear?"
"Otherwise, how could you trick my older brother into collaborating with you?"
"I think posting on my social media, letting everyone know you slept with me, sounds pretty good."
Si Yuhuan warned her coldly, "Don’t test my patience."
"And I’m telling you to hurry up and divorce me!"
SLAP!
Jian Xi coolly hung up the phone.
She wasn’t stupid. Si Yuhuan wouldn’t help her or the Jian Family, or agree to some so-called project collaboration to aid her older brother, just like that. He definitely had his own agenda.
Businessmen prioritize profit; she wasn’t important enough for Si Yuhuan to make an exception for her.
Who knew what this guy was plotting?
Wan Yu gave a thumbs-up. "Awesome!"
Jian Xi was definitely one of the very few who dared to speak to Si Yuhuan like that.
She made a bet with Jian Xi. "Right now, Si Yuhuan must feel as wronged as a newlywed bride. Who knows how Jiang Qimeng will torment him. With a guy like him, it’s a case of ’diamond cuts diamond.’ Serves him right for liking those innocent-looking types."
Suddenly, Jian Xi had an urge to see Si Yuhuan being tormented by Jiang Qimeng.
On a whim, she told a small lie and, while Wan Yu was on calls with subordinates discussing work, drove to Champagne Garden.
She drove there from memory.
Champagne Garden was one of the few luxury residential complexes built by Haohan Group. It was located in the city center where land was incredibly expensive. This particular sprawling apartment, over four hundred square meters, was valued at over three hundred million.
It was a gift from Si Yuhuan to Jiang Qimeng.
When Jian Xi had first learned about this property, she’d fought with Si Yuhuan. He had pushed her to the ground, breaking her rib, and she’d spent a full ten days in the hospital. During those ten days, Si Yuhuan hadn’t even glanced at her. After her discharge, she received divorce papers.
Si Yuhuan never showed up throughout the entire process. He only had his lawyer tell her to sign as soon as possible, or else she would have to bear the consequences.
This time, I want to see this apartment for myself, and also see if Si Yuhuan is as pathetically deferential inside as I was when I pursued him, so cautious and careful.
However, just as she arrived outside, a security guard stopped her.
As expected of a high-end residential complex, access control was very strict.
Jian Xi hesitated.
The security guard immediately said sternly, "What’s your purpose here? I’m calling the police."
Jian Xi was exasperated. "Does being his wife make me an owner?"
The security guard paused, taken aback.
He couldn’t afford to offend an owner.
After fumbling for a moment, Jian Xi took out her marriage certificate and showed it to the guard. "Here. The owner is Si Yuhuan. This is our wedding photo, and this is one of our properties."
The security guard, looking anxious, quickly went inside to check. He soon returned, respectfully handing back the marriage certificate and apologizing with a smile, "Sorry, ma’am, we just have to be extremely careful. Please don’t take offense."
Jian Xi wasn’t about to argue with a hardworking security guard. She offered a few words of praise and drove in, heading towards Building A, Unit 1. As she drove up to the entrance, Jian Xi stopped.
Because Si Yuhuan’s custom black Ferrari was roaring away.
Jian Xi saw clearly that there was an exceptionally well-dressed woman in the passenger seat—probably Jiang Qimeng.
What a pity, missing them twice. It really is hard for us to meet.
But it didn’t matter. Sooner or later, there would be a chance.
Her parents and older brother had already returned to the country.
Since Jian Xi was already back in Beijing, there was no reason to keep hiding.
There were some things I need to make clear.
Since I can’t meet that despicable couple today, I might as well go home.
Jian Xi drove back to the Jian family home.
As she reached the entryway to change her shoes, she heard lively chatter from inside.
"Who’s inside?" Jian Xi asked with a smile.
The nanny answered, "It’s Mr. Si."
As Jian Xi entered, she saw Si Yuhuan.
Father Jian’s eyes nearly crinkled into slits when he saw his daughter. "Xixi, come quickly! Yuhan has brought some pre-rain Longjing tea. It tastes wonderful; you should try some too."
Jian Xi walked over and glared at him. What are you up to?
Isn’t he fooling around with Jiang Qimeng?
Si Yuhuan met her glare with a smile.
His smile made Jian Xi’s skin crawl.
She went over and sipped the tea, but it was tasteless to her.
Jian Mingcheng glanced at his sister. "Weren’t you out having dinner with your friends? Why are you back so suddenly?"
"Is Older Brother not happy to see me?" Jian Xi pouted playfully, knowing she was spoiled by him.
Jian Mingcheng said indulgently, "This is your home; you can come back whenever you want."
"Alright then, I’ll stay here with Mom and Dad."
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the living room grew awkward. Everyone stared at Jian Xi.
"Why are you all looking at me? Older Brother just said this is my home and I’m welcome back anytime. So, I’m going to stay for a while."
We’re about to get divorced; I need to play it safe.
That utter scumbag Si Yuhuan! I despise him and don’t want to see him again. The farther away, the better. Ideally, no strings attached. Once Older Brother’s project is stable, I’ll file for divorce.
Jian Xi had it all planned out clearly.
"Fine, come back whenever you like," Jian Mingcheng said.
Jian Mingcheng had barely finished speaking when Si Yuhuan said, "That might not be convenient for the next few days. I need to take her to stay at the nursing home for a bit. Grandfather isn’t doing too well, and he wants to see her."
After handing over control of Haohan Group to Si Yuhuan, his grandfather had moved into a nursing home built by their family. He spent his days leisurely gardening and fishing, living quite contentedly.
He was essentially retired.
Jian Xi, in an effort to please Si Yuhuan, used to visit and pay her respects whenever she was free. However, she was told not to come too often, as elderly people preferred quiet.
I thought I was currying favor, but it backfired, so I rarely went after that.
"That’s only right and proper," Father Jian said, his eyes warning Jian Xi that she absolutely had to go. "When people get older, it’s natural they’ll want to see certain people."
Jian Xi bit her lip.
Divorce is divorce, and filial piety is filial piety. I never said I wouldn’t go, but do I really have to go with Si Yuhuan?
Once Father Jian tired and went upstairs, and Jian Mingcheng left to take a call, Jian Xi said to Si Yuhuan, "Since you don’t love me and I really can’t stand you either, let’s not force ourselves to be together. I can go to the nursing home by myself."
"In your dreams!" Si Yuhuan stood up, straightened his suit as he prepared to leave, looking infuriatingly handsome.
Jian Xi ground her teeth in frustration.
That night, she couldn’t sleep.
Dad didn’t ask anything, Mom didn’t even show her face, and Older Brother only told me to live well before he left. That was it?
It was as if nothing had happened.
My other brothers had also vanished without a trace.
"Why is my luck so awful!" Jian Xi groaned, pulling the covers over her head and sighing deeply.
Little did she know, her older brother and father were pressed against her door, trying to catch any clue about what was going on.
Jian Mingcheng, his face flushing with embarrassment, tugged at Father Jian. "Dad, eavesdropping isn’t right."
"Never mind, never mind," Father Jian said. "These young people’s affairs... I can’t understand them. As long as she’s happy, that’s all that matters."
The two went downstairs, one after the other.
Father Jian instructed Jian Mingcheng, "Keep an eye on things. If Si Yuhuan dares to wrong your sister, the men of the Jian Family are not to be trifled with. We absolutely will not let him off the hook."
"And that Jiang Qimeng... give her some money to make her leave Si Yuhuan. Then everyone can be at peace."
"Understood, Dad. Leave it to me!" Jian Mingcheng readily agreed.
