Chapter 369: Curious
Chapter 369: Curious
Seeing Rose silent as if thinking about something made Oliver frown.
"Do you think I’m evil?" He asks.
Rose slowly raised her head to look at Oliver, before saying, "Of course not! I will support whatever you do for them. And... Oliver, I owe you one!" She smiles.
"Huh! You owe me!?"
"For risking your own life to protect me."
The thought of Oliver unbuckling his seatbelt and holding her tightly in his embrace made Rose feel touched and, at the same time, feel guilty.
"But, please, don’t do anything like that again. I don’t want to lose my best friend. I... I’ll blame myself if anything happens to you." Her voice trembled.
Oliver was taken aback by her words.
"Rose, listen... I have never regretted my decision. And if something like this happens again, I will do the same. You are the only friend I have. And ever since we were little, you were the only one protecting me, even though I’m a boy...."
Oliver chuckled, remembering the times they were bullied, and often Rose defended him, not the other way around.
Rose’s eyes are slightly red when she hears Oliver’s words. It’s as if there was an invisible force that pulled her back in time when they were still in East City, struggling in their lives in elementary and middle school. She would never forget the dark times they were insulted by others.
"Silly girl, why are you crying!? Look... Now, I’m an adult. I’m stronger than you, so I’ll protect you. Just accept that, okay!?"
"You!" Rose was speechless, but deep down, she felt touched and grateful to have a kind friend like Oliver.
After some time...
Rose left Oliver’s room. She didn’t go back to her room but visited Sam instead. Sam was being cared for on the same floor as her.
This is the first time Rose would see Sam since yesterday’s incident. Because after waking up from her stupor yesterday, Rose’s mind was distracted by Oliver’s condition. She had utterly forgotten about Sam and herself, who had also been hurt. She was also still in a shocking state and exhausted—she slept until nightfall.
However, when Rose remembered about Sam, she could not visit him because Sam was sleeping and still under anesthesia after surgery.
Rose came into Sam’s room...
She saw Sam lying on the bed with his leg in a knee-to-toe cast. Instantly she felt sad and, at the same time, angry seeing him lying in such a condition.
She Covered her mouth with her palm as she muttered under her breath, "Oh my God! Sam..." She held back her tears and couldn’t see how bad Sam’s legs were now. Now she doubted Sam would recover in the next two or three months. She was sure Sam’s legs could be cured probably next year.
She clenched her fists in anger and frustration.
Now she was even angrier at Archy Hester for hurting Sam and Oliver. At first, she felt Oliver’s revenge was cruel. But seeing Sam’s condition changed her mind completely—Oliver’s punishment was too easy.
"Oh god, please strike that despicable Archy Hester to death!" Rose whispered in her heart.
With annoyance filling her heart, Rose slowly walked to Sam’s bed. She didn’t want to wake him, this man would overreact if he saw her; afraid the cast on his leg would crack from trying to exuberantly welcome her.
But, being a martial arts expert, Sam could hear her footsteps. He opened his eyes when Rose stopped right beside his bed.
"B-Boss, you came?" With a hoarse voice, Sam greeted Rose. He tried to get up, but before he could move, Rose held him back.
"Stop! Don’t move!!" Rose asked him to lie down. After making sure Sam didn’t force himself to sit up, she could finally feel relief.
"How’s your leg? Does it still hurt? How long..." Rose couldn’t continue her sentence as if the words had stopped on the tip of her tongue; she was too sad to see his legs.
"Boss, don’t be sad. It doesn’t hurt at all. I’m used to this kind of injury. It’s normal for me when I’m training in martial arts..."
"Do not lie to me, Sam. I know when you’re lying!" Rose rolled her eyes. "Also, your pale face can’t fool anyone, Mr. Sam Russel! And I can see you wince as you move!" She shook her head, knowing that this man was lying to her.
"I’m telling the truth, Boss! Mmm... It hurts a little, but the nurse gave me painkillers. You don’t have to worry. An injury like this won’t kill me." Sam laughed, trying to lighten the mood.
"Well, Evan said you won’t be working for the next three months. So, he will assign a new person for me. Honestly, I don’t want anyone to replace you. . . but my husband insisted. So please get well soon. Don’t make me wait for too long, alright?"
Sam’s mouth twitched at how quickly Big Boss replaced him.
Was this punishment because he neglected his duty which caused their car to fall into a ravine?
Sam could only take a deep breath.
"Don’t worry, Boss. I will return to work as soon as possible, in a month... I promise!" Although Sam was sad, he agreed with Evan’s decision— Rose’s safety was more important.
"What! No... don’t force yourself. You should focus on healing yourself first and follow the doctor’s advice..." Rose was surprised. She regretted asking Sam to get well soon. After all, she just wanted to tease him. But this man seems pressured.
Instantly Rose was worried.
Sam nods with a faint smile appearing on his face.
"Sam, do you know who will be appointed to replace you? I tried to ask Evan, but he said; it’s a secret..." Rose was curious. However, Evan did not reveal the temporary bodyguard’s identity.
Sam pondered for a moment.
After some time, he looked at Rose, "If my guess is right, he will assign the stronger one. And, there is one currently idle...."
"Who?" Rose asks curiously.
