Chapter 363: Sad News
Surgery Room - Promise Hospital
Everyone in front of the operating room—Evan, Rose, Danny, and Randy—looked gloomy. No one spoke or even moved from their seat. Only Rose.
She was now pacing in front of the door. Now and then, they could hear her take a deep sigh. A few times, she also uttered a sentence that no one else could understand except Evan.
"Wife, let’s go back to the treatment room. You still need a lot of rest and recovery. You need to drop everything else and just get some rest...." Evan said after he heard his wife curse herself using the Swedish language. Hearing her say those dirty words made his heart feel terrible.
Rose stopped in her tracks and looked into Evan’s eyes with concern. Her heart was shaking, and her eyes were sore from crying too much.
As it was now, her mind returned to the incident a few hours ago when their car fell off a cliff, and they were nearly killed by a hitman. If that stupid Oliver hadn’t protected her, maybe she was on the operating table, not that fool Oliver. How dare he throw himself as a human shield like that?
Thinking about it made her brain go numb. She would not forgive herself if anything happened to Oliver.
How could she live if her friend died because of her?
She will never live in peace. Never.
"I’m fine. But how can I leisurely sleep when Oliver is struggling to live?" Her voice was gentle, but there was a deep sadness in her tone. "I’m scared. What if something happens to him?"
Evan took a deep breath. He walked over to Rose.
"Oliver is a strong man. He will survive...."
Evan pulled Rose into his arms and stroked her hair gently. Trying to calm her heart. He felt she was upset at this moment.
"My love, have you forgotten who handled Oliver’s surgery? Your father. As far as I know, no patient has ever died on Uncle Nick’s operating table. So you have to trust your father...."
As if someone had splashed her with cold water, Rose’s body which had been hot—like someone had just lifted a fire in her heart—instantly felt cool. She was relieved after hearing Evan’s words.
Yes! Surely her father can help Oliver. She believes in him.
An hour ago, Nicholas Spencer arrived in this town after Rose begged him to come and save her beloved childhood friend. Nicholas Spencer and Molly Wilson rushed to this city from the East City. Luckily they were in the East City, so it only took them 2 hours to reach this city by plane.
It wasn’t just Rose’s parents who came. However, Oliver’s grandmother was also contacted and was heading to this place from Nova City.
Rose asks Randy to tell Oliver’s Grandma, worried that something might happen to Oliver—in this world, Oliver only recognizes his grandmother as family. He never identified himself as part of Hester’s family. So Rose didn’t tell them.
Seeing his wife starting to calm down, Evan let go of his embrace. He tilted his head to see his wife’s face, which still looked pale, "Alright, let’s go to your treatment room, shall we!?" Evan asked again.
But, for some reason, Rose was reluctant to leave that place. She wanted to be the first to know about Oliver’s condition.
"Rose, what Evan said is true. You need rest. You’re not in good shape either." Randy, who was already standing beside Evan, said. He was worried seeing Rose’s condition—Mentally, this girl must be devastated.
She pondered for a moment as she looked at her body; many scratches on her feet and hands. Even now, her neck is cast because of a displaced bone. At the time of the accident, she felt nothing. But X-rays found that she had multiple internal injuries.
"Alright! But, Randy... promise me, you have to tell me as soon as the surgery is over!!" Rose pleaded with Randy. After getting a light nod from him, Rose decided to return to her room. She needed to lie down after feeling pain in several parts of her body, especially her legs and hips.
When she lay on the bed, Rose couldn’t close her eyes at all. Her mind was utterly filled with negative thoughts. And it made her head hurt. She buried her head in her palms and closed her eyes to dispel any negative thoughts.
"Wife, what’s wrong? Does your head hurt?" There was panic in Evan’s voice. He sat on the side of her bed and took her cold hand. "I’ll call the doctor!"
"No! I’m fine. I’m just worried and afraid Oliver will die..."
"I told you nothing would happen to him!"
"If... What if... something happened to him?" Rose squeezed Evan’s hand tightly before continuing, "Hubby, I would never forgive myself if he couldn’t be helped. Poor Oliver... he used his body as a shield to protect me. I owe him my life. I will never be happy if he dies!" Her heart shattered when she said those words.
Not hearing her husband say anything made Rose blame herself even more. She slowly closed her eyes. But before falling asleep, Rose heard footsteps from the corridor, and the sound moved closer to her room. She opened her eyes and waited.
It must be Randy! Oliver’s operation must be over, she thought.
Her eyes stared at the slowly opening door and saw Randy standing there. The sad look on his face made Rose’s heart sink even more.
Randy’s expression carried no good news. This kind of facial expression only brought sad news.
Rose slowly got up as her hands squeezed the edge of the blanket covering half of her body. "Randy, tell the truth!!"
"Oliver..." Randy strolled towards Rose with a gloomy look on his face. His reddened eyes were enough to signal Rose what Randy would say next.
Instantly Rose’s eyes felt blurry, as tears began to roll down her cheeks. Her body was shaking. Her throat felt dry. The words on the tip of her tongue seemed to sink to the bottom of her throat. She was at a loss for words as a painful attack hit her heart.
"I’m sorry, Rose, but he didn’t make it!"
Hearing Randy’s words, her body froze as if someone had just given her a death note.
