Chapter 172: Promise Me!
Chapter 172: Promise Me!
"About your identity. Did you read the final draft of your interview? If you agree, your profile as an heir will be added to the Collins Group website. And your interview will be published in a business magazine." Arthur asked again.
Evan was in a difficult position. He had made a promise to his Grandfather to reveal his identity as Evan Collins once he finished college, in exchange for being allowed to study in East City. Even though he technically hasn’t graduated from B University yet, he has already passed the final exam. Evan knew he couldn’t delay any longer and had to agree to his grandpa’s wishes.
He had already seen the article that would publicly reveal his identity a few days ago, and he felt that everything had been done according to his request. They would only use his picture from when he was about to enter college and not include any personal information, like where he went to school or college. The article would only focus on his company, Starlight Investment, which he had built himself.
"Brat! You can’t turn it down...." Seeing his grandson silent as if thinking about something, Arthur Collins worried. "Grandpa has followed many of your wishes and had to disagree with your father. This time you must follow my wish!" Arthur’s voice sounded firm as his eyes sharply looked into his grandson’s eyes like a copy-paste of him.
Evan’s eyes narrowed as he looked at his grandfather, taking a deep breath before giving his answer. "You can release it, but hold off on the press conference until the day after tomorrow. I don’t want this news to overshadow tomorrow’s events, especially since I’m marrying Rose. I want to be able to enjoy my big day with her without any distractions," he said firmly.
He couldn’t bear the thought of the media frenzy and hype that would surely follow the news of his family identity being released to the public. After their wedding, he and Rose had planned to take a week-long honeymoon to celebrate their marriage, and Evan hoped that by the time they returned, the buzz surrounding his family would have died down.
Grandpa Collins nodded understandingly. "I see your point, Evan. I’ll make sure the press conference is held off until the day after tomorrow."
Evan let out a sigh of relief, grateful that his grandfather respected his wishes. "Thank you, Grandpa. I really appreciate it."
....
As Rose emerged from the powder room, their food order was ready. "Come on, Rose, sit next to me!" Grandpa Arthur Collins beckoned Rose to sit on his right side, with his grandson Evan seated to his left. But Evan’s expression darkened as he watched Rose take the seat opposite him.
Arthur noticed the tension and sought to diffuse it. "So, Rose, how’s business?" he asked, genuinely interested. He knew Rose had recently started her own investment company, and as a seasoned businessman himself, he respected her tenacity.
Rose smiled at the question, happy to talk about her passion. "It’s going really well, thank you for asking. We just secured a big new client, and I’m excited about the future."
"That’s fantastic news, little girl! I knew you had what it takes to make it in this industry." Arthur beamed at her with pride. "Tell me more about it..."
Evan couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy at his grandfather’s attention towards Rose, but he pushed it aside. He knew that Grandpa Arthur had always been supportive of his business ventures, and he was glad to see that he felt the same way about Rose.
Rose spoke animatedly to Grandpa Arthur about her business ventures. "Things are going really well so far. We have a few new companies in development, and some are already running smoothly," she said, referring to Flash Company and King Game Company - the latter of which she had acquired from Oliver. They were currently in the process of expanding King Game Company to other cities like Fort City and Vale City. However, Rose was careful not to mention Rapid Realty. She didn’t want to reveal anything.
"Great! Little girl, you know you can always come to me for help. If you ever need investors or anything else, just let Grandpa know," Grandpa Arthur said with a smile, eager to offer his support.
Evan, who had been sulking since they sat down at the dining table, suddenly interjected. "Why should my wife need to ask for your help? She has me," he said firmly, unable to stand the idea of his grandfather trying to dominate Rose.
"Wifey, I’m your husband, so you better look for me if you need anything. No need to ask Grandpa for help!" Evan’s voice sounded sincere.
Grandpa Arthur looked surprised by Evan’s outburst but quickly composed himself. "Of course, I know Rose has you. But as someone who has been in business for many years, I have a lot of experience and connections that could be helpful to her. I’m just trying to be a supportive grandfather," he explained, his tone calm and conciliatory.
Evan felt a twinge of guilt for his harsh words, realizing that his grandfather was only trying to help Rose. "I know, Grandpa. I appreciate your offer. But Rose and I can handle things on our own," he said, his tone softer this time.
Rose looked between Evan and Grandpa Arthur, sensing the tension in the air. "Thank you, Grandpa, for your offer. I’ll definitely keep it in mind," she said diplomatically, trying to diffuse the situation.
Grandpa Arthur smiled at Rose, pleased with her response. "Of course, little girl. I’m always here to help if you need it."
Despite feeling warm with Grandpa Collins’ offer, Rose felt a surge of annoyance at Evan’s casual use of the word "wife" in front of his grandfather. How could he be so thoughtless? She glared at him for a few seconds, silently warning him not to do it again. Once she was sure he understood, she nodded at him and agreed to his request.
"Rose, promise me first, you will only ask me if you need anything..." Evan said, looking at her earnestly.
Rose’s hand holding the spoon stopped in mid-air as she looked at Evan with a faint smile. "I will, Evan," she said softly. Rose knew she couldn’t ask Grandpa Arthur for help. She felt frustrated with Evan’s demands but also knew that he cared for her deeply.
The corners of Evan’s lips lifted slightly as he saw the satisfied smile on Rose’s face. He continued eating his lunch, ignoring his grandfather’s soft chuckles.
The VIP room fell silent as the three of them ate their lunch lost in their own thoughts. The only sound was that of cutlery against plates. As they finished their meal, Arthur Collins wiped his mouth and glanced again at his grandson. An idea had appeared in his mind, and he spoke up.
After a few moments of silence, Arthur Collins glanced again at his grandson as he wiped his mouth and finished his lunch. Moments ago, an idea had appeared in his mind to ask Rose to visit Collins House.
"Evan, bring Rose to come to our dinner at the end of this month...." Arthur Collins’ words sounded like a decree, making Evan unable to refuse his Grandfather’s wishes. But he couldn’t just decide. He looked at Rose, who was still chewing her food, but he could see clearly that the look in her eyes was fluttering.
After their heartwarming meeting with Grandpa Collins, Evan, and Rose made their way back to their apartment. With a long day ahead of them tomorrow, they knew they had much to prepare.
