Chapter 464: Chapter 446 You Are Different
Ye Man’s mother scrutinized Gu Feng’s expression and saw that he wasn’t reluctant at all, so her face relaxed considerably, and she smiled, revealing all her teeth, "However, Xiaoman was spoiled by us when she was young, so whenever it came to catching loaches, her father would have to accompany her. She even complained that the way I cooked them wasn’t as tasty as how her father did, so over the years, her father really perfected the technique."
"No wonder it tasted just right to me yesterday," Gu Feng nodded, feigning seriousness as he agreed.
"If you like it, I’ll make more for you tonight," Ye Man’s father was also very happy and became even more fond of his son-in-law.
"Dad, how about we have some grilled loaches tonight?" Gu Feng suggested with a look of longing on his face.
"Sure," Ye Man’s father nodded willingly, considering going out to buy some seasonings later. Grilling would naturally taste better with some cumin and pepper salt, and they were just about out at home.
"Complaining about being fat, yet you’re still ordering dishes?" Ye Man playfully kicked Gu Feng under the table.
"You girl, how come Gu Feng can’t ask for his favorite dishes at his own home? You’re the one making demands every other day. Let me tell you, if you keep this up, I’ll really get tough with you. Don’t think I wouldn’t dare to spank you just because you’re grown up," Ye Man’s mother threatened, glaring at Ye Man while holding her rice bowl.
"Mom, Xiaoman didn’t mean any harm; she was just joking. Please don’t be mad at her," Gu Feng quickly took Ye Man’s side and spoke up for her.
"Always playing the good guy. How come I never saw you talk so smoothly before?" Ye Man rolled her eyes at him.
"Heh heh," Gu Feng responded to her with a silly laugh.
"Ahem, Gu Feng, didn’t you only have one younger brother? How did you end up with a sister too?" Ye Man’s father saw that Ye Man’s mother was about to lose her temper again and quickly interjected to change the subject.
"She’s my aunt’s daughter. My brother and I spent a long period of our childhood being raised by my aunt and her husband, and there’s another younger brother in my aunt’s family, although there’s quite an age gap between us. I grew up with my brother and this sister of mine, and our bond is much stronger than with others."
Gu Feng explained, his face breaking into a smile as he mentioned Lu Yun, "But with our wedding this time, my sister definitely won’t be able to make it. She just gave birth to triplets a few days ago, all boys, and she’s still in confinement."
"Triplets, that’s incredible?" Ye Man’s mother almost drooled with envy, thinking if only her own daughter could give birth to triplets all at once, or even twins, then she would be well established in her in-laws’ home.
"It’s a tradition in our family. Like my mom, my aunt, and my uncle were triplets. Unfortunately, my uncle passed away early, before he even had the chance to get married," Gu Feng sighed.
"So that’s how it is," Ye Man’s mother first expressed realization, then showed pity on her face, "Your uncle, that’s really such a shame, gone so young."
Then she grew curious, "And your sister, I’ve heard people say she’s not actually your uncle’s biological daughter? Is that true?"
"Just eat your meal, why ask so many questions? The kid still has to go to work and doesn’t have the time to chat with you," Ye Man’s father chided Ye Man’s mother with a glance.
"Dad, it’s okay,"
Gu Feng didn’t mind the topic and, seeing there was still time, answered truthfully, "This isn’t really a secret anymore. My aunt brought my sister with her when she remarried my uncle. Her previous husband was just too foolishly filial; it’s not worth talking about. But my sister has been very dear to my uncle since she was young, even more so than his own son, who has to take second place."
...
The dinner had taken over twenty minutes and by almost eight o’clock, Gu Feng and Ye Man had descended the stairs together and were both sitting in Gu Feng’s car. Gu Feng kept stealing glances at Ye Man, a goofy smile on his face.
"Why are you smiling like that, all silly? Here, take back your ’Sunset Shows the Heart,’ I’m returning it to you." Ye Man took out the little box that Gu Feng gave her the day before from her bag and placed it on Gu Feng’s lap.
"Didn’t I give it to you already? Didn’t you open it?" Gu Feng asked, surprised.
"I did open it, and I saw it," Ye Man’s face suddenly reddened, "We’re even now. So you should take it back."
"Even? Wife, you aren’t, you aren’t planning to dump me, are you?" Gu Feng was completely dumbfounded and panicked.
"Who said I was dumping you? In your dreams. Without you, where would I find another ready-made father for our baby?"
Ye Man rolled her eyes and patiently explained to Gu Feng: "It’s enough that I know what you meant, so I won’t hold it against you for deceiving me before. But you should really take this back. Otherwise, won’t your dad and mom worry about you, thinking that I’m swindling money and seducing you?"
"Hehe..."
Hearing the phrase about swindling money and seducing, Gu Feng couldn’t help but laugh. As he laughed, he placed the box back in her hand: "I do like being swindled and seduced by you. When I went to get this yesterday, I used the Lu Family’s lawyer, so my parents definitely knew right away. The fact that they didn’t stop me shows that they approve.
Last night when I got back, right in front of my parents, my brother’s wife even complained jealously, asking my brother when he would give her a guarantee like that. My brother nearly cried, saying I set a ’bad example’ and even got scolded by our dad and mom."
"Uh, they all know about it..."
And they don’t object? Ye Man looked at Gu Feng, bewildered and hardly believing it.
"Don’t worry, from the day we started living together, I had already decided you were the one for me. After getting married, I never even thought about divorce, so whose name that thing is under, doesn’t it all the same?"
Gu Feng leaned over to help Ye Man fasten her seatbelt and took the opportunity to kiss her cheek, "Wife, I’m sorry, I always wanted to tell you the truth, but I was afraid you wouldn’t accept it and just kept putting it off."
He hesitated for a moment but decided to come clean about the past relationship he had hidden, rather than risk breeding more issues later: "Actually, I had a relationship before, but my mom was against it. It blew up pretty big, and then all of a sudden, she married another rich guy. From then on, I stopped believing in women, thinking all women were greedy and vain. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have deliberately pretended to be poor in front of you."
Gu Feng saw Ye Man’s eyes widen instantly and quickly added: "Later on, I realized you were really different from the others, and it was my luck that you came into my life."
"Looks like you still have a lot of things you’re hiding from me," Ye Man said with wide eyes, persistently adding, "And who says I’m different from other women? I’m just as greedy, just as vain, just as fond of shiny jewelry and brand-name clothes, and just as keen on enjoying life."
"My mom, my aunts, my sister, and my sister-in-law love those things, too," Gu Feng blinked in confusion, "Don’t all women like them?"
