Chapter 118: Chapter 115 Be My Girlfriend
Li Si slept through until past six. When she woke up, her head was pounding. She sat up and looked around at her surroundings, having no idea how she got back. She had blacked out from drinking and guessed it must have been the two of them who brought her home.
She grabbed her bag from the bedside table and rummaged for her phone. There were unread text messages. Li Si felt a rush of excitement—it must be a message from him. However, when she opened it, it was just a classmate’s birthday wishes.
She sighed. What’s going on? Why wasn’t there even a single text from him?
Feeling dejected, she went into the bathroom to wash her face. It dawned on her that she hadn’t had much to eat at lunch, and now her stomach was empty, her mouth still carried the bitter taste of alcohol. She decided to head downstairs to find something to ease her hunger.
The villa was pitch black and eerily quiet. Li Si suddenly felt a trace of fear. When he was here, the place felt warm and welcoming. Why was there this stark contrast?
She carefully switched on the hallway wall lamp and moved downstairs step by step. Thankfully, her room was on the second floor, and all she had to do was make her way to the corner of the first floor to reach the kitchen.
Just as her foot stepped onto the marble floor of the first-floor living room, an unexpected change occurred. The crystal chandelier suddenly lit up. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone by the dining table!
"Ah!" Li Si screamed, startled.
When she glanced over clearly, who else could it be but Leng Mochen?
With an air of indignation, she stormed over and complained pitifully, "What are you doing? You almost scared me to death!"
At that moment, all her worries and sadness erupted. Angry, she wiped her tears. He was beyond annoying! He knew it was her birthday and hadn’t sent a single message nor wished her well. And now he came back sneaking around, playing tricks!
Leng Mochen hadn’t expected her to be so emotionally worked up. He quickly calmed her down, wrapping a comforting arm around her and gently patting her back. "I didn’t mean to scare you! I just got back. When I came upstairs earlier and saw you were still asleep, I didn’t want to wake you."
"You scared me anyway! You’re the worst! I hate you!" Li Si, mischievously, wiped her tear- and snot-covered face on his black suit.
Seeing this, Leng Mochen couldn’t help but smile bitterly. "Aren’t you just like a child? Happy birthday, Little Birthday Girl! Crying isn’t allowed on your special day!"
"It’s all your fault! How dare you remember it’s my birthday! Then why didn’t I get a single call from you?" Though her tone was accusatory, she couldn’t deny the sudden sense of security she felt, as if her anchor had finally returned.
"Alright, it’s all my fault! Isn’t it good that I rushed back? Do you want to see your gift?"
"I’ll consider it." Li Si responded with an air of pride.
Leng Mochen took out an ornate red box, his eyes glimmering with anticipation. "Open it and take a look. Do you like it?"
With delight, Li Si accepted the box, trying to contain her racing heartbeat as she carefully opened it. Oh my god! It was a finely carved red jade necklace, crystal-clear under the shimmering light.
"It’s so beautiful!" She instantly fell in love with it. The red jade on the necklace gave her an inexplicable sense of comfort.
Could it be?
"I’m glad you like it! This is the red jade you once sold to Long Wu. I found an old master in Hong Kong specifically to craft this for you!" Seeing how much she liked it, Leng Mochen felt it was all worthwhile.
"So that’s it!" Li Si exclaimed in joy. "So, you didn’t go to Hong Kong just for business? You really used your position for personal gain!" She was secretly touched, though. His thoughtfulness meant everything, and nothing else mattered.
"Mhmm! Let me help you put it on!" He walked behind her, gently lifting her long hair to one side before fastening the necklace around her neck.
"Thank you!" Li Si lowered her head, lightly touching the red jade at her neck, a wave of happiness enveloping her heart.
On the dining table was a large bouquet of vibrant red roses, alongside a bottle of red wine and a chocolate cake. Leng Mochen gazed at her intently, raising a glass of poured wine. "Little one, happy birthday!"
Li Si didn’t know why, but the romantic ambiance made her heart race, her breath quicken. Feeling shy, she clinked glasses with him lightly and took a small sip. "Thank you!"
Sitting across from her, Leng Mochen looked exceptionally handsome tonight. Though his suit had a damp patch from her antics, it didn’t detract from his charm; instead, it only added to his allure.
Perhaps it was because the atmosphere was so perfect that Li Si watched his Adam’s apple move as he drank, her throat feeling inexplicably dry. She quickly picked up her wine glass and gulped two more sips to cover up her flustered state.
But nervousness often leads to mistakes—she choked on the wine. "Cough, cough, cough!" She started coughing violently.
Leng Mochen promptly stood up and gently patted her back, his voice close to her ear, saying, "Feeling better?"
His voice seemed to carry magic; her ears buzzed with electricity. She grew too shy to look back and merely nodded slightly.
Not hearing an answer, he thought her condition was more serious.
He crouched in front of her, lowering his gaze. "Little one! Look at me! Are you okay now?"
Li Si had no choice but to lift her head, meeting his gaze directly. "I’m fine! Cough. Brother, go sit back down! Staring at me like this is making me feel awkward!" His deep eyes at this moment seemed like they could pull her in, filled with emotions she couldn’t place.
"Little one, you’re blushing!" His words weren’t a question but a firm statement. His eyes sparkled as he looked at her flushed cheeks, now more vibrant from coughing.
Li Si avoided his gaze, turning her focus elsewhere. "No, I’m not!" But she would never admit it. Her heart was racing like a deer caught in a hunter’s trap.
During his days in Hong Kong, Leng Mochen had taken the opportunity to sort out his feelings. That constant uneasiness and impulsive desire to be around her—it all boiled down to one simple truth: he liked her. No... he really liked her! He liked her deeply, the kind of liking where he wanted her to belong solely to him.
"While I was away these past few days, did you miss me? Hmm?" He leaned in closer, his distinct masculine presence enveloping her.
She nodded ever so slightly. She hadn’t thought much of it before, but especially in these few days of his absence, everything she did seemed lackluster. His image constantly appeared in her mind. Though still somewhat confused, she was beginning to realize he meant something different to her. She thought... she must have fallen for him!
He stared tenderly at the top of her head. "If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as an admission. Little one, I’ve missed you—a lot, a lot!"
Li Si looked up in disbelief, her eyes wide and her lips slightly parted. Oh my god! Was this really Leng Mochen? Had he been possessed by someone? How could he say something so straightforward?
"Be my girlfriend!" The words he spoke weren’t a question but a resolute declaration, leaving no room for doubt.
Her mind felt like it had been detonated, left completely blank. All she could hear were his words repeating endlessly: "Be my girlfriend, be my girlfriend."
"This can’t be real! Brother, this joke isn’t funny at all!" Li Si laughed nervously, attempting to ease her rising panic.
"I’m serious! Little one, be my woman. Let me take care of you for a lifetime!" Leng Mochen gripped her shoulders firmly, enunciating every word as he eagerly awaited her response.
