Chapter 103: Chapter 100: Take Care of Yourself
She had come this time not only because it was Ye Duowei’s birthday but also for some personal matters. Her sister had told her last time that they had found the child, but there had been no updates recently. She felt uneasy and was afraid the child had faced difficulties. After all, as her biological mother, she owed her. She didn’t even know whether the stepmother chosen for the child was easy to get along with...
Bai Shasha came out of the restroom and didn’t see Li Si. She walked forward a bit and saw Li Si staring blankly at the opposite hall, her expression full of pain, her eyes red!
She hurried over and nudged Li Si. "Hey, Si, what are you doing?"
Bai Shasha’s voice wasn’t soft, and since the boutique’s hall was open-style, it immediately drew people’s attention.
Ye Duowei was the first to recognize them. She walked out pretending to be elegant, cast a proud glance at their outfits, and sneered, "You two are Brother Jing’s junior classmates, right? We’ve met before—remember? I’m Brother Xian’s fiancée. What are you doing here?"
After speaking, she deliberately tilted her head, giving Li Si a meaningful look.
"Oh, I remember! Aren’t you the coquettish girl who made harassing phone calls but refused to admit it?" Bai Shasha couldn’t take her provocation and countered.
Li Si tugged at her sleeve and said weakly, "Forget it, Shasha. Let’s just go."
What could she say at this point? One ridiculous scenario after another kept coming at her. Did she really not understand by now? Ye Duowei was clearly that woman’s niece. If you think about it, the two of them were actually blood-related! What a cruel joke!
"Y-You’re talking nonsense!" Ye Duowei stomped her foot in anger, her face slightly flushed with fury.
Tian Yaruo followed her out. "What’s the matter, Weiwei? Did you run into some friends?" She glanced briefly at Li Si and Bai Shasha. Her first impression was that they were fairly pretty young girls, with an undeniable resemblance to Weiwei in their facial features, but she didn’t think much of it.
"Friends? Them? Don’t make me laugh, Auntie! That girl, Li Si, I don’t know what tricks she pulled, but because of her, Brother Xian is treating me so terribly now!" She angrily pointed at Li Si, fervently voicing her complaints.
Li Si felt completely blindsided—what on earth had she done?
Tian Yaruo’s impression of Li Si plummeted in an instant. No wonder Weiwei had lost weight recently and seemed so down. It turned out this girl was the source of it all.
In a cold tone, she said, "Young lady, you’re quite pretty, but how could you steal someone else’s boyfriend? Yin Xian and our Weiwei are engaged. Is this how your parents raised you?"
Li Si stared blankly at the woman lecturing her. Though well-maintained and still beautiful, the fine wrinkles around her eyes, the faint dark circles poorly masked by foundation, and the bloodshot veins in her eyes told a different story.
This wasn’t the mother she’d imagined. It completely shattered the image she had in her mind! Of course, dreams were always idealized—how could she have been so naive? Especially that last sentence—it was a direct hit to her heart.
Li Si fought back her rising tears and stubbornly lifted her chin. "I wasn’t taught by any parents. I never knew my mother, and my father has passed away. But does that justify accusing me of something I didn’t do? You’re condemning me based on her one-sided story? Or is it that everyone in your family assumes they’re right even when they’re wrong?"
Tian Yaruo scrutinized Li Si carefully. Her surname was Li, the same as someone Yaruo had once loved. But considering what the girl had said about never meeting her mother and her father being deceased, Yaruo dismissed the thought with a laugh. How could he be so young and already gone? Perhaps the girl’s parents were divorced—her background did seem pitiable.
"Y-You two...!" Ye Duowei tugged at Tian Yaruo’s sleeve. "Auntie, look at the things she’s saying about us!"
Bai Shasha was seething inside. To have Li Si be falsely accused of stealing someone’s boyfriend was utterly infuriating.
"Ma’am, could you perhaps get your facts straight before lecturing others? For the record, your Ye Duowei was the one making harassing phone calls to Li Si, severely disrupting her studies and life! As for that scheming Yin Xian, let me make it crystal clear—we wouldn’t even consider him!"
Tian Yaruo let out a derisive laugh. Two naive little girls who didn’t know their place! Did they think anyone could casually walk through the Yin Family’s doors? With their kind of background, it was nothing but a fantasy!
"Whether you ’consider’ him or not is your own matter. But let me remind you, Weiwei is Yin Xian’s fiancée, and that’s an unshakable fact. Watch your words and actions in the future, and don’t play the part of someone despicable. Take care of yourself!"
Without another glance at the stunned and silent Li Si, Tian Yaruo’s gaze softened instantly as she turned to Ye Duowei. "Alright, Weiwei, let’s not make a scene in public—how embarrassing! Let’s go."
Ye Duowei grabbed Tian Yaruo’s arm to stop her. "Auntie, wait a moment!"
She turned to Li Si with arrogant eyes full of mockery. "Li Si, let me make it clear today. Even if Brother Xian has a bit of interest in you, it’s only because you look a little like me. The two of you met while I was abroad, so it’s obvious—he only sees you as a stand-in! Also, a crow will always be a crow; it can never become a phoenix!"
"Wait!" Just as the two of them were about to walk away gracefully, Li Si, who had been silent until then, suddenly called out.
Ye Duowei turned around, looking at her with disdain. "Do you still have something to say?"
Tian Yaruo impatiently glanced back. Weiwei’s words earlier had been left unchallenged, which to her was confirmation enough. Clearly, there was something between this girl and Yin Xian—was she now trying to explain herself?
Li Si wiped away her tears, sniffled, and pointed directly at Tian Yaruo. "I have something to say to her!"
Both women found this odd. "My aunt doesn’t know you. What could you possibly have to say to her?"
"Is your name Tian Yaruo?" Li Si asked loudly, as if raising her voice would help her suppress the suffocating emotions inside.
"How do you know that?" Ye Duowei gasped. How did Li Si know her aunt’s name?
Tian Yaruo was equally astonished. "That’s right—but how would you know my name?"
Li Si’s lips twisted into a mocking smile. "How would I know? I wish I didn’t! Being oblivious is so much easier than being clear-headed. Do you want to know my father’s name?"
"What’s wrong with you? What does your father’s name have to do with us?" Ye Duowei rolled her eyes. Had Li Si become unhinged at her words?
Li Si didn’t look at anyone else, her eyes fixated on Tian Yaruo with relentless intensity. "Do you want to know? Or are you afraid to find out?"
Tian Yaruo felt an inexplicable unease. In Li Si’s eyes, she saw a mix of pain and madness. Reflexively, she responded, "Say it!"
