Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 204: Return to District Four
Chapter 204: Return to District Four
District Four.
Returning to their peaceful and comfortable home after several weeks in the busy Orion City felt so good.
The tranquility of this house allowed Iris to think clearly once again and plan the new direction of her life she would take.
Initially, her sole plan after her rebirth was to seek revenge on her killer. But now, her goal has shifted; she wants to help Eric regain an everyday life without relying on a magic shield to conceal his damaged body.
Iris is thankful because when she shared her plan to bring Eric to this country with Xavier, he supported it. He even offered his island for Eric to stay.
The island is in District Four, just an hour away by boat from their house. Because the distance was not too far, she could visit him by boat every time she wanted—teleporting might not be her choice to go there because it could make Eric suspicious of her.
Initially, Iris feels worried about leaving Eric alone. Still, she is relieved when she discovers he won’t be alone on the island. An island guard and his small family will accompany him.
Besides, Eric will reside on the island as a new person; he now has a new identity. He will use a new name, Eric Griffin — sharing the same last name as Iris’s fake name.

When Iris was seated on the patio by the lake, lost in thought during a calm afternoon, Xavier arrived at the house. He didn’t sense Iris’s presence inside. Before he could search for her, he noticed Niles approaching.
"Milord," Niles slightly bowed to Xavier and stood beside him.
"Where’s my wife?" Xavier frowned, looking at Niles.
"Lady Iris was in the backyard garden," Niles paused as Xavier walked toward the large window overlooking the backyard. "She has been there for a few hours," he continued.
Xavier didn’t say anything when he finally saw her and also sensed her presence. He was surprised because he felt a faint barrier around her. This was the first time he had noticed such a light aura around her, and now he realized that this barrier prevented him from sensing her presence immediately upon entering the house.
"What is she doing?" Xavier sharply gazed at Iris.
"Milady was reading a book—" Niles’s voice slowly faded; he was uncertain whether to inform Xavier about something he had heard from the house staff.
Xavier sensed Niles’ unease. He turned to him, "What’s wrong?"
"When I arrived, the chef told me that Lady Iris skipped her lunch," Niles said, feeling regretful for having to report this to Xavier. If Iris found out, she would definitely be annoyed with him.
Xavier feels worried when he hears that Iris has missed her lunch. He no longer says anything and dismisses Niles.
After a few seconds, he walked out of the house. He didn’t teleport on purpose. His steps were not in a hurry as he wanted to test the aura that enveloped her by calling her name.
The closer he was to her, the more he approached her with a visible frown. He had tried to get her attention several times, but she seemed utterly absorbed in her thoughts. She didn’t even notice when he stood beside her.
After a few seconds, Xavier finally asked, "Iris, are you OK?"
Iris was shocked to hear Xavier’s voice. She closed the book on her lap but did not read it because her thoughts were distracted.
Xavier couldn’t help but smile as he teased, "What were you thinking? You didn’t even notice me for a moment." He feels amused looking at her surprised expression.
He gently ruffled her hair.
Iris, "..."
She was indeed lost in her thoughts. She had planned to read a magic book but was caught up thinking about Eric.
"Xavier, I’m sorry I didn’t hear you. I was busy planning for tomorrow. You know Eric will arrive, right!?" When she saw him nod, she continued. "Why are you back so early?"
He arrived home early, surprising her since he had said he would return after dinner.
Xavier’s expression gradually turned sour, and he sighed deeply, worrying Iris.
’Did she hide something from me, or didn’t realize something had changed in her aura?’ Xavier wonders.
"Xavier, what’s wrong? Did something happen?" She asked, concerned, holding his cold hand, offering warmth and support after looking at his haze filled with worry.
"It’s because of you," Xavier said, his golden-yellow eyes intense. "You need to take responsibility, Ms. Darkwood!" He decided to put aside the faint aura he had seen earlier. He will talk to her later after he discovers something.
Iris became more confused upon hearing his words. She looked at him closely, deepening her worry.
"Because of me? I should take responsibility?" Iris asked, sounding stern. "Xavier, can you please just say so!? I can’t read your mind, you know that, right!?"
Xavier chuckled, seeing her pout. "My darling, you look even prettier when you pout like this. Makes me want to kiss your lips—" His voice halted when Iris rolled her eyes and turned away.
"I don’t want to talk to you if you don’t tell me," she said softly.
"OK, I’ll tell you." When he noticed her looking back at him, he continued. "Iris, don’t you know? You’re the only one on my mind whenever I leave the house. That’s why I always want to return home early, to meet you..." He said with a straight face. "Tell me I’m right? This is all your fault, right?"
Iris nearly choked by his words. She maintained her calm expression, but inside, she almost burst into laughter. Feeling somewhat defeated by his cheesy words, she simply grinned at him.
"Xavier, now that you’re back let’s go inside. I want to discuss something important with you..." Iris stood up and gestured for him to follow her.
A sly grin appeared at the corner of her lips as she quickened her pace toward their bedroom.
...
Xavier, trailing behind her, frowned suspiciously but didn’t question her. He simply followed her into their bedroom.
When she finally stopped and looked at him, he could see her eyes staring into his. A few times, he noticed her long eyelashes flutter while her cherry lips formed a slight smile—just looking at her enticing face made him feel tense.
It was rare to see her expression like this; he found it hard to describe, but he was sure she was trying to seduce him. He tried to maintain a calm expression, but inwardly, he wanted to laugh at her efforts.
He put his hand on her waist and pulled her between his arms, lowering his head near her ear, and whispered, "Are you trying to seduce me with your alluring eyes and lips, Ms. Darkwood?"
Iris, puzzled, scolded herself for being too obvious. "Did you, perhaps, hear my thoughts?" she asked, pressing her head into his chest, trying to hear his heartbeat, but he heard nothing.
Xavier sighed deeply, wrapping his arms around her tightly. "No. I couldn’t hear your thoughts, but your lips earlier seemed to issue a silent invitation for me to kiss you and—"
"Stop!" Iris interrupted him, shaking her head while smiling shyly. "Xavier, can I go to the island tomorrow? I want to ensure Eric settles in there and chat with him about many things..."
Xavier let go of his embrace and gently placed his hand on Iris’s chin to make their eyes meet. "Do you want to stay one night there?"
"Hmm, can I?" she asked softly.
Xavier was silent for a while, thinking. After a few seconds, he finally said, "OK. But I can’t accompany you because I have something to do. Justin will follow you there. Is that OK?"
Though Iris felt slightly disappointed, she nodded. "No worries. I will appear in your room, accompanying you to sleep."
Iris suddenly smiled. "Sounds good."
"If only Eric knew who we were, there would be no need for us to hide like this anymore," Xavier said.
Iris couldn’t help but smile hearing his words. She did want to tell Eric, but that man might think she was crazy.
"Xavier, is the person guarding the island human?"
"Yes, they are humans. And they don’t know who we really are. That family has been guarding the island for hundreds of years, so they have been there for generations." Xavier explained.
"That’s good. So Eric can have human friends..." Iris said, feeling excited and couldn’t wait to get there tomorrow.
...
They kept chatting on the couch about Iris’s plans for tomorrow. However, not long after, Xavier remembered Iris’s assignment.
"When will you do your task?" Xavier was curious about her plan. He also wanted to fit it into his schedule so he could be around the city when she took action.
"The day after tomorrow," she looked him in the eyes. "Why do you ask? Do you want to join us?"
"No. That old geezer, Lucian, forbade me from helping you..."
