Chapter 27: She Is Not Aurora Moon!
’Danny...’
Aurora’s lips trembled as she whispered his name. She wanted to run to him and tell him she was still alive. However, she dismissed the idea.
All she could do was express her sadness inwardly and attempt to soothe her overwhelming emotions.
As Aurora struggled to control her emotions, Danny suddenly stopped and gazed in her direction, causing her to freeze in shock at their eye contact.
"Who are you?" Danny asked, his expression puzzled.
He vividly remembered Renata saying she would close her restaurant for a week to mourn Aurora’s death. But why was there a customer here? And why was she sitting at their favorite table?
Aurora pretended to be confused as she looked at Danny. However, her hands, hidden beneath the table, were tightly clenched, and her heart raced.
They exchanged a momentary stare until Renata emerged from behind the kitchen door. She was taken aback to see Danny standing near the entrance, blocking her way.
"Danny! You finally came..." Renata said, smiling happily at his presence. However, when she noticed the confusion in his eyes, she quickly urged him to follow her.
Danny’s gaze was confused as he frowned at Renata, who was holding a pan with a medium pizza. He leaned closer and whispered, "Didn’t you mention that you closed your restaurant? Why is there a customer here?"
"I’ll explain later. Hurry. She’s not in good condition right now. She needs to eat something..."
"Rena, you look strange. Why are you—" His words trailed off as he watched Renata quicken her pace, leaving him behind. Reluctantly, he had no choice but to follow her.
...
Renata and Danny were amazed as they watched the young girl devour her pizza as if she had not eaten in days.
Suddenly, they experienced a sense of déjà vu. The girl resembled their best friend, Aurora. Whenever Aurora enjoyed her food, she became fully immersed in it, paying no attention to anyone around her.
Danny leaned closer to Renata and fixed his gaze on the young woman before him. He whispered just loud enough for her to hear.
"Rena, do you see what I see?" Danny whispered to Renata while casually covering his mouth with his hand.
His eyes observed Aurora as she savored her pizza, seemingly oblivious to their presence.
Renata nodded slowly, fully understanding Danny’s barely heard message. The longer she watched Aurora munching on that pizza, the more she felt she was looking at her best friend, Aurora Moon, who had just passed away.
Renata glances at Danny, and she whispers loud enough for him to hear and be shocked.
"Hmm, I saw that too, Dan. And you know what? You won’t believe this, but this girl’s name is the same as Rory’s!"
"WHAT? NO! NO FUCKING WAY!" Danny nearly screamed, struggling to believe what he had just heard.
How could this girl’s name be the same as Aurora’s?
He narrowed his eyes on Renata, saying, "Don’t play prank on me, Rena!"
Renata shrugged. Like Danny, she was also shocked when she heard the girl’s name: Aurora.
Even now, she couldn’t believe that a girl had suddenly appeared in her restaurant, claiming her name was Aurora.
Not only that, but this girl physically resembles their recently dead best friend, Aurora Moon. Even though they were different ages, their features were remarkably similar. The way she spoke, ate, and looked around was almost identical. A perfect doppelganger.
Renata deliberately served the girl with Aurora Moon’s all-time favorite pizza when she prepared food for the girl. She wanted to see if this girl would love it like Aurora Moon. She was even unprepared for what she saw. She was double shocked.
First, from how much the girl enjoyed it. And second, the style in which she enjoyed eating it.
It was like watching her dead best friend alive and thriving. And Danny must’ve been experiencing the same shock, too.
Danny’s loud, shocking voice suddenly caused Aurora, who had eaten half of her pizza, to freeze in shock as she stared at the two people in front of her.
When Renata sensed Aurora’s stare, she quickly nudged Danny with her shoulder and gave him a sharp look before turning to Aurora with a warm smile.
Renata worried that the girl could sense their thoughts at that moment. If she could read their minds, she might flee from them. How could they believe that this girl was Aurora Moon, their deceased friend?
"Sorry to startle you, Aurora..." Renata said, her smile widening as she encouraged Aurora to finish her pizza. "Go on, girl, keep eating; no need to bother about us." She maintained her Mona Lisa-like smile.
Aurora nodded slightly at Renata before turning her gaze to Danny.
"Sir, would you like some too? You can share with me if you’d like." Aurora calmly offered, pushing the pizza pan closer to him.
Renata almost laughed at Aurora’s innocent expression.
’What am I thinking?’ Renata muttered to herself as she dismissed the thought that the girl before them was an incarnation of Aurora Moon; she was mistaken.
This girl was not Aurora Moon. If she were truly Aurora, she would guard her pizza and never share it, especially with Danny. They were always fighting over the pizza she made for them.
Not only did Renata dismiss her suspicions, but Danny did as well. This girl, of course, was not Aurora Moon.
Danny smiled faintly. However, when he gazed into her blue eyes and noticed them shining, his smile froze, and he felt enchanted.
Clearing his throat, Danny politely declined her offer. "You can have it all, girl. And please, don’t call me ’sir.’ It makes me feel old. Just call me Danny."
Aurora felt somewhat relieved, having managed to distract Renata and Danny. As she tried to enjoy her pizza earlier, she sensed their sharp gazes directed at her.
Worried they would become suspicious of her, she hurriedly tried to act differently than her usual self.
Earlier, she was too thrilled to see her favorite pizza, forgetting that she was no longer Aurora Moon.
After finishing her pizza and feeling pleasantly full, Aurora looked back at Renata and finally had the chance to express her confusion.
"Sis Renata, if you don’t mind, may I ask why you closed your
