Chapter 99 - 94: Award Ceremony
Chapter 99: Chapter 94: Award Ceremony
"The recipients of the Bronze Award are: Zhang San, Li Si, Wang Ermaozi... a total of twenty individuals. Next, I invite the Director of the Municipal Education Bureau to present the awards." Luo Qianqian sat in the R University auditorium, leaning against her brother, half-asleep. There were so few spots, and her hopes were slim, but her several brothers insisted on coming together.
"No Bronze Award, there’s no point in staying. Let’s go home..." Luo Qianqian yawned. She had stayed up watching her brother and a few of his friends play games last night, worried he would get hooked on video games. She ended up watching him until after midnight before she could go to sleep.
"Forget it, we can’t leave now anyway." Shufan looked around the crowded auditorium and sighed, "I won’t play games anymore, okay? Look at you, insisting on staying up with me."
"You said it yourself, if you forget then I won’t talk to you, hmph." Qianqian got a satisfactory answer and reluctantly opened her eyes, waiting for the award ceremony to end.
"The recipients of the Silver Award are: Luo Qianqian... a total of five individuals. Next, I invite the Deputy Mayor to present the awards."
Luo Qianqian’s eyes went wide, "What? Brother, I think I heard my name..."
Shufan was also wide-eyed, "I think I heard your name..."
"?!" It wasn’t until Shufan tugged at her that Luo Qianqian realized she needed to go up on stage to receive the award, maintaining a dumbfounded expression throughout. She couldn’t be blamed, though; even with her past life’s experiences, she’d never been in such a situation.
Luo Yanhai and the others in the back row were agape, incredulously watching the girl on stage who was at least two heads shorter than everyone else around her.
"Hurry, call grandpa."
"I’ll call dad and Second Uncle."
Xu Tianyi, sitting in the first row, couldn’t help but smile as he watched Luo Qianqian, who had no idea she’d won an award.
"Luo Qianqian? How old are you?" Deputy Mayor Han Sen, finding the award-winning child with wide eyes and a confused face rather amusing, asked.
"Ah, yes, that’s me, I’m seven years old." Luo Qianqian finally snapped out of it, quickly noticed the people around her, and responded.
"Congratulations, a Silver Award. You’re the youngest among the winners." Han Sen handed the medal and certificate to Luo Qianqian.
"Thank you, uncle," Qianqian smiled with her eyes squinted and took the items before following the others down from the stage.
"The recipient of the Gold Award is: Xu Tianyi. The mayor will now present the award!"
Luo Qianqian passed by Xu Tianyi, admiring the young boy’s indifferent expression, and wondered when she would be able to face everything with such calmness.
"Qianqian, let me see." Shufan took his sister’s medal and boasted proudly, "Hey, my sis is really impressive. She’s worthy of being my sister, having her brother’s style."
Luo Qianqian thought to herself: But you also participated in the competition.
Yet her eyes were fixed on the boy on stage. He appeared to be only about ten years old, but he surpassed the older students aged thirteen or fourteen to win the Gold Award. Is this what they call a true top student? No, this is a Scholar God!
Luo Qianqian brought her hands together in respect to the boy on the stage.
Xu Tianyi, catching Luo Qianqian’s gesture out of the corner of his eye, his mouth twitched: Luo Qianqian, huh? I’ll remember you.
After the ceremony, aside from Yanran being called away by her agent, the other three were excitedly waiting at the door.
"Qianqian, grandpa says we’re going for roast duck at noon!" Yanwu said excitedly, dancing around.
"Why are you so happy about roast duck? If it were me, I’d be happier eating cake," Qianqian said, not quite understanding Yanwu’s reaction.
"Don’t you love roast duck?" Yanwu paused, maintaining a strange pose, and asked.
Qianqian raised an eyebrow, "That was days ago. Now I’m into the ribs grandma makes."
"We’re doomed... It’s all Second Brother’s fault for blabbing. I already told grandpa, and grandpa, grandma, mom, dad, and Second Uncle and Aunt have already gone to reserve the seats..." Yanwu looked at Luo Qianqian with a pained expression.
"You guys talk too much..." Luo Qianqian shook her head as she watched her brother proudly holding the medal, "I’m not picky, I like it all, don’t worry."
"As expected, you’ve won the Gold Award again." Luo Yanhao looked at Xu Tianyi, who had come out alone, and said with admiration, "These are my sister and brother, let me introduce them to you." Without waiting for Xu Tianyi’s refusal, he pulled him over to his siblings:
"This is Xu Tianyi, next to our grandfather’s place, the third building is the Xu Family’s. The Gold Award just now was his."
Then turning to Xu Tianyi, he said, "This is my fifth younger brother, my third uncle’s child, named Luo Shufan, two years older than you, and this is our sister, also my third uncle’s child, named Luo Qianqian, three years younger than you. You’ve got to take care of my sister, okay?"
"Scholar God, hello, are you lacking followers? The kind that are not stupid and also very cute." Luo Qianqian looked at Xu Tianyi with earnest, blinking eyes.
"Luo Qianqian, act normal!" Luo Shufan flicked his sister’s forehead with his finger. Then, he apologized to Xu Tianyi, "I’m sorry, my sister’s brain short-circuits sometimes."
"No, she’s quite cute," Xu Tianyi said with an expressionless face. Luo Qianqian muttered to herself, if he really found me cute, would his face look like that? The Scholar God truly is the Scholar God, being dismissive in such a peculiar way.
"Coming with us for a meal?" Luo Yanwu invited.
"No, I’m heading home." Xu Tianyi glanced at Luo Qianqian before turning and walking away.
Luo Qianqian followed and took a couple of steps, then yelled out, "Scholar God, I’m serious, okay? If you’re taking disciples, you must consider me first!"
Xu Tianyi’s fame had indeed spread far with this exam, elevating him to a MAX version of ’the child from someone else’s family.’
After hearing what Luo Qianqian said, Xu Tianyi’s lips curled into a smile as he quickly left the scene.
"Qianqian, eat up. Later, your aunt will take you shopping for clothes." At Quanjude, aside from Luo Xiying, who was out on an errand, the six of them had already gathered. Faced with a table full of roast duck, Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched:
"Thank you, Great Aunt," she said, bowing her head to eat.
Meanwhile, Luo Yanwu was animatedly discussing with Old Master Luo Guohui the details of Luo Qianqian’s award ceremony.
"Ah, I’m guessing grandpa is about to go visiting again soon," Luo Yanhai whispered to Luo Qianqian. "Whenever there’s something to be happy about, like Xiao Ran releasing a new song, grandpa takes the song around the neighborhood to show off to his old comrades."
"You little rascal, can’t I brag about having a good grandson and granddaughter? If you had the skills, you’d give me a reason to show off too." A duck leg bone landed steadily in the bowl in front of Luo Yanhai.
"If it were me, I’d brag too, since not everyone can have a sister like that," Luo Shufan said under his breath as he ate.
"Exactly, look at a real big brother, then take a look at you." Luo Guohui waved his hand grandly, and a plate of untouched duck meat slid in front of Luo Shufan, "Hurry up and eat, soon you’ll go shopping for clothes with your aunt."
Luo Yanhai dared not speak anymore and made faces at Luo Qianqian, causing her to burst into laughter.
"You all didn’t wait for me." Luo Yanran had finally finished his business and rushed back home, only to find out that everyone had gone to celebrate his sister’s Silver Award with roast duck, and hurriedly joined them, only to find that they had nearly finished eating, which instantly made him angry.
"When haven’t you been busy all day, and didn’t you eat lunch at home??" Luo Yanwu mercilessly exposed him, "Such exceptions are rare, who knew you wouldn’t come back or even call."
You’re just playing dumb. Luo Yanran glared at his cousin, who was only a few months older than him, then turned to Luo Qianqian, who was still eating leisurely, and said, "My sister is the best, eating with me without complaints. It’s worth the special trip I made to bring cake."
With that, a cake box was placed in front of Luo Qianqian. She looked up, saw Luo Yanran winking at her, and opened the cake box to find it was the kind she had tasted before, a pleasant surprise that made her eyes shine.
Once Luo Yanran had finished eating and Luo Qianqian had shared the cake with everyone, she was too full to walk.
But Ye Qianying still took the siblings out shopping with Jia Ning.
"Let’s go, wife, let’s find them and show off," Luo Guohui said, holding the Silver Award with pride on his face.
"I’m going home to make something delicious for Qianqian. You can show off by yourself." Yue Tingyu got into her second son’s car and left, not accompanying Old Master Luo.
Luo Xisi, as the eldest son, resignedly took Old Master Luo to each old senior officer’s home to brag. This would surely make those guys envious, and they would certainly find ways to put him in his place.
