Chapter 413: Chapter 394: Recovery?

Feng returned to the ward with the porridge and saw Lu Simiao wiping Luo Qianqian’s face. She didn’t say anything, just set down the porridge she was holding and let out a slight sigh, "How did you sleep?"

Luo Qianqian nodded, not quite understanding the question. She felt quite spirited now.

Feng tugged at the corner of her mouth and sighed, "Eat something. You haven’t eaten for so many days, and I can’t give you anything nice to eat. Have some plain porridge to moisten your throat, and when you’re discharged, we’ll go have a proper meal."

Luo Qianqian nodded, not particularly concerned about it.

"Do you feel anything wrong with yourself?" Feng continued to ask.

Luo Qianqian stretched her arms and legs and shook her head, her face full of confusion, as if asking, should there be something wrong?

Feng still sighed, then handed the plastic bowl to Lu Simiao, "Watch your sister eat, I need to step out for a bit."

Lu Simiao obediently nodded, even assuming the role of a caregiver, taking the spoon to feed Luo Qianqian the porridge.

A flicker of discomfort crossed Luo Qianqian’s face. She gently shook her head and took the bowl and spoon, preferring to drink the porridge herself.

She sensed something was off with Feng, and this unease seemed to be targeting some change within her. But if it were a disfigurement, there would be no reason she couldn’t feel the wounds or pain, right? She could even feel the pain of a vacuum on the back of her hand, suggesting it wasn’t that issue.

Hair turned white overnight? Luo Qianqian looked at the hair clinging to her cheek and furrowed her brow — it was clearly black.

Unable to figure it out, it seemed the only thing amiss with her was her inability to speak, right?

But that was a problem with her throat.

Luo Qianqian drank her porridge and pondered, not noticing the unease on Lu Simiao’s face. Why couldn’t he feel the same warmth that his sister, who had left him behind long ago, had provided? Could it be the illness?

Feng stood outside the ward, her face twisted in conflict.

"What’s wrong?" A voice rang out beside her. She turned around and saw a familiar figure.

"Jin, why are you back?" Feng looked at him in surprise, especially in this place?

Jin glanced into the ward and then pulled Feng aside, "I just came back and saw your car parked outside, so I came up. What’s going on here?"

"...It’s nothing," Feng shook her head and sighed, "Just got injured on a mission."

"Well, that’s a relief. By the way, do you know where Hu Si went?" Jin suddenly lowered his voice and spoke mysteriously.

"You know?" Feng frowned; he’d been upset these past few days because he hadn’t been able to contact Hu Si, and now the news was somewhat bittersweet.

"In Capital City," Jin breathed out three words.

Feng froze. It wasn’t strange for Hu Si to be in Capital City, but losing contact there was.

"How do you know?" Feng asked another question.

Jin scratched his head, looking slightly embarrassed, "I was out on a mission, and since you guys didn’t know, I thought I’d check it out, have some good food. Who knew..." Jin’s expression changed, "Hu Si was eating with a guy, and I’ve never seen such a smile on her face."

Feng just nodded, his response subdued. Now with the situation surrounding Luo Qianqian, he didn’t know what to do; it seemed like everyone around him could be a suspect.

Then Jin waved his hand, "I’m going back to sleep. Just got off the plane. I need to catch up on some rest."

Feng nodded, not holding him back, but his mind was a mess.

At that moment, Hu Si was standing at the airport, facing the man Jin had seen, "Thank you for your trouble; take care."

"Saving a person in exchange for their wealth," Hu Si smiled, "Rest assured, I won’t reveal your identity."

The man nodded, his figure under the sunglasses and hat full of determination and ease, and he turned to leave.

"Sigh, I’m going to be suspected again when I get back," Hu Si smiled wryly, dragging his luggage and calmly starting his journey home.

After eating, Luo Qianqian woke up from her nap and realized something was wrong. No matter how she slept before, she’d always be troubled by nightmares, but this time she woke up with no dreams at all. How was that possible?

Recalling this later while staring out the window at the scenery outside, Feng remained still for a moment, "Why didn’t you go back? Don’t worry about me; I’m fine."

Her voice was just as usual, and Luo Qianqian noticed nothing amiss.

Feng, however, frowned, his voice was gentle and pleasant, but there was a detachment in his tone that was inexplicable.

Seeing Luo Qianqian maintaining her usual expression, Feng was doubtful. Could it be that he was overthinking?

He shook his head slightly, "There isn’t anything else wrong, is there any discomfort?" The glucose had been removed early on, and Luo Qianqian stretched her arms and legs, shaking her head.

"That’s good, are you hungry?" Feng smiled, "I’m going to eat soon, what can I bring back for you?"

Luo Qianqian nodded, "Just some plain porridge will be fine."

Feng nodded in agreement.

Soon after, his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, his face darkened in an instant, but he still pulled a smile for Luo Qianqian, "I’ll bring it to you later. You lie down for a bit. If you’re bored, your phone is in the cabinet next to you."

Then he turned and left.

Luo Qianqian didn’t feel like a patient, just a bit weak. She took out her phone and dialed her brother’s number. To her surprise, the call connected. She checked the time – it wasn’t their usual time for a call.

Luo Shufan’s voice came through the phone, "What’s up, silly girl?"

"...Nothing much." Luo Qianqian found herself at a loss for words.

Luo Shufan sensed that something was amiss and knitted his brows slightly before saying, "I’ve tried some chocolates recently that are quite good. You’d probably like them. Should I send some to you?"

"Sure." Luo Qianqian nodded before remembering that Luo Shufan couldn’t see her and replied softly.

"How has your body been doing, lately?" Luo Shufan’s voice had a rising inflection of mirth. Luo Qianqian could tell he was in a good mood.

"Fine, nothing’s wrong." Luo Qianqian paused for a moment, not revealing that she was still in the hospital. She preferred to share good news and not worry her brother; saying more would only needlessly concern him.

Luo Shufan seemed not to expect such an answer and fell silent for a moment, "When are you coming home?"

Luo Qianqian was taken aback and skepticism flickered through her eyes, "Probably next month."

"Then, I’ll send some things for you to take to mom," Luo Shufan said.

"Okay." Luo Qianqian went silent.

"I have to hang up first, there are some things I need to attend to here. Chat tonight?" Luo Shufan’s voice carried a note of fatigue. Luo Qianqian hesitated for a moment, "Okay, take some rest."

After Luo Qianqian hung up, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.

On the other end, Feng left the ward and answered the phone. The voice on the other end said only one sentence, "Come downstairs, I’m next to your car," before hanging up.

Feng went downstairs and saw the travel-worn Hu Si, frowning, "Is it you?"

Hu Si nodded, "It’s me."

"Why?"

"For the treatment."

"Then why did you leave?"

"I was afraid I’d soften."

"Where did you get it from?"

"Purified it myself."

"What were you doing?"

"Meeting friends, having meals."

"Stop asking," Hu Si sighed, "She has to go back after she’s discharged. There’s something going on there."

Feng’s brow furrowed, a contemplative expression on his face.

Hu Si laughed, "That’s my patient. How could I ruin my own reputation?"
