Chapter 378: Chapter 360: The Smart Baozi
Looking at the little dog that clenched onto his pant leg without letting go, Luo Yanran was at a loss for words. He had already dragged the dog from the front door to the living room like this.
"Right, Qianqian, this is what I picked up from the security room just now." Yue Tingyu frowned. "They’re all addressed to you."
Luo Qianqian wore a look of surprise on her face. She had been about to ask her grandmother what those boxes beside her were, but they were for her?
The first one came from overseas. Opening it, she found a white little rabbit plush that was soft to the touch and even had a scent.
Luo Qianqian understood. She knew deep down who had sent it.
The second was surprisingly sent from the South. Luo Qianqian’s heart skipped a beat. Could it be her brother?
Opening it up, she saw a white silk dress, which felt very comfortable to the touch.
She frowned slightly; this didn’t seem like something her brother would buy.
The third one had a familiar address; was it her own home? Sent from the home that belonged to her and her brother? But the number was clearly... her own.
She opened it and understood.
It contained a dessert-themed keychain made by He Wenyu, very lifelike.
A watercolor painting from Chu Ci, depicting her profile with a mountain village in the background.
A Wishing Bottle from Fu Mingxue, with 999 tiny plastic stars inside.
A bracelet from Zhang Jingjing, which was obviously very expensive.
A hairband from Jiang Qian, with a note attached that said he liked the way she looked with long hair.
Taking a closer look, Luo Qianqian noticed she also had flowing long hair in Chu Ci’s painting. She smiled faintly, then picked up another tightly wrapped package and couldn’t help but laugh when she saw what was inside. There was a small camera, with a card underneath from her male friends pooling their money together. She was immediately touched, yet puzzled. How did these guys know her address?
But in the next second, her curiosity was satisfied. Pressed at the bottom of the box was a letter. Although each person had only a few words of greetings in different handwriting, it warmed her heart. Then she saw Tang Chen’s writing: Happy Birthday, wish you well. I filled in the address; they don’t know, don’t worry.
Rolling her eyes, Luo Qianqian couldn’t help but feel this person was somewhat detestable.
But she quickly noticed something odd. Each person’s paper had a different degree of seriousness, pink, rose, light blue, sky blue, etc., but Fu Mingxue’s and Tang Chen’s were clearly silver. Luo Qianqian raised an eyebrow, her expression one of realization.
"Luo Qianqian, let that little fellow let go... My pants are all wet!!!" Luo Yanran looked at the saliva stains on his white pants and felt like crying without tears.
Luo Qianqian turned back, saw Luo Yanran’s pants, and burst into laughter: "Baozi did a good job. Come here, I’ll give you an extra meal later."
Luo Yanran rolled his eyes and then glanced at the boxes, "Are these from your admirers? Such a mess of things."
"You’re the one with admirers. These are from friends of my family," retorted Luo Qianqian with an eye roll.
"There’s one more box," Luo Yanran said, pointing to the last small box.
Luo Qianqian picked up the box and noticed there was nothing on top, just a simple seal. Upon opening it, she was stunned—inside was... just a piece of paper.
Surprised, she flipped it over and over, confirming it was just one piece of paper, with only a phone number on it. Then why use such a big box???
Luo Qianqian dialed the number directly; after all, there was nothing else in the box to worry about like a phone triggering something explosive.
After two rings, a cheerful voice came through: "&...*%("
??? What was that? Some kind of bird language?
"Hello?" asked Luo Qianqian hesitantly.
Then she heard a shout on the other end, followed by another voice: "hello?"
"Hello?" Luo Qianqian continued.
"Is this Luo Qianqian?"
"Yes, it’s me." Luo Qianqian, hearing an unfamiliar voice, slightly furrowed her brow.
"Hello, it’s like this, we are the European Castle Management Office, and our buyer has entrusted us to transfer the ownership of this castle to your name today."
"What the heck? A castle? I must still be dreaming, right? What’s going on?" Luo Qianqian’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Qin Nuan also leaned in when she heard Luo Qianqian’s reaction, listening to the voice on the phone.
"That’s correct. I am your butler; you can call me Tony," the voice on the other end paused for a quite a while before continuing, seeming not to quite understand Luo Qianqian’s tone of questioning.
"Hold on, wait a moment, who, exactly, told you to give this thing to me?" Luo Qianqian patted her chest and, seeing the crowd that had gathered around her, smiled to show she was okay.
"It’s Mr. Luo," the voice replied without hesitation.
"The Luo from Luo Qianqian?" Luo Qianqian raised an eyebrow.
"Yes," the voice said affirmatively.
Luo Qianqian frowned and said, "I see. Just manage it then. Plant more stuff, like roses or grapes, make some wine and sell it off. I probably can’t afford to keep you all, so just be self-sufficient."
"Rest assured, Mr. Luo will take care of our expenses. He asked me to convey his wishes to you, a very happy birthday."
Luo Qianqian, hearing the busy tone in the earpiece, was a bit stunned. Who could it be? Her brother shouldn’t have that sort of money, but the richest in the family, Second Uncle, wouldn’t keep it from her, and with Second Aunt around, it made no sense for her not to know.
Qin Nuan frowned, "Your brother?"
It didn’t make sense for other members of the Luo Family not to have mentioned it in advance; only her elusive, so-called good brother was an unknown.
"I don’t know, maybe," Luo Qianqian shrugged her shoulders, "Anyway, it’s just a phone call, nothing else, so let’s just treat it like a prank."
However, Luo Yanran furrowed his brow, feeling that there was more to this issue than met the eye.
"Baozi, come here." Luo Qianqian cut a soft piece of peach, thoughtfully peeled it, and held it in her palm close to the little dog’s face.
Baozi, wiggling its little bottom, polished off the peach in Luo Qianqian’s hand and even licked her palm.
Luo Qianqian couldn’t help but laugh from the ticklish feeling.
To Qin Nuan’s amazement, back at her place the dog would bite everything in sight, yet now it behaved like a mouse in the presence of a cat around Qianqian?
Luo Qianqian was delighted and generously bestowed the puppy with a surname, and so the little dog, barely three months old, was christened Luo Baozi.
Yue Tingyu was also smitten with the fuzzy little creature, even steaming some bland meat into tiny pieces to feed Baozi as an extra treat, making Old Master Luo jealous. Yet he was defeated by the gaze as sweet as his granddaughter’s, eventually bending down to feed the dog milk himself, his face soft and gentle, nowhere near his usual sternness.
"I feel like you didn’t give me a birthday present, but sent something to compete for affection with me," Luo Qianqian said, looking at Qin Nuan with a face full of grievance.
Baozi, hearing Luo Qianqian’s voice, wobbled out of the embrace of the other Luo elders, approached Luo Qianqian, and wagged its little tail adorably as it looked up at her.
Luo Qianqian burst into laughter.
Qin Nuan rolled her eyes, "Even dogs know how to comfort people. Be content. I feel like I’ve been replaced in your heart by a dog..."
"No way, who are you to be replaced by my son?"
Baozi rubbed against Qin Nuan’s leg. Any anger she might have felt melted away as she crouched down, "This little thing... As soon as it sees you, it’s like it’s been schooled. Its sensibility index shoots up. It can even read moods and tones..."
"It’s probably because I’m a good person."
