Chapter 319: Chapter 301: Qin Nuan
"Hello, do you know what big event happened in Jin City?" Luo Qianqian was the first to ask as she watched Qin Liang leave the house.
"Big explosion." Qin Nuan listened with surprise to the soft and glutinous voice on the other end of the phone and hurriedly replied, "Do you know about the Eastern Star?"
"Yangtze River sinking?" Luo Qianqian hesitated for a moment before answering.
"It’s not convenient to talk on the phone, I’ll buy a ticket and come to you!" Qin Nuan said in a rush, "You’re at my brother’s place, right? Wait for me." After hanging up, Luo Qianqian was a bit stunned, still not reacting to the string of beeps from the receiver.
By the time Qin Nuan arrived, two days had passed, and Luo Qianqian still seemed like a zombie, dazed and unresponsive.
"Let’s go." Qin Nuan quickly recognized Luo Qianqian, who was noticeably shorter than others in the crowd, and went over to pull her aside. Following Qin Nuan, Qin Liang was speechless; he hadn’t seen his sister in a long time and was now being ignored by her in favor of a minor girl.
"What’s your timeline?" Qin Nuan continued to confirm Luo Qianqian’s identity while leading her to her brother’s office.
"Autumn of 2015, I don’t remember the exact time, after school started," Luo Qianqian said after a moment of silence.
"I’m from 2017," Qin Nuan said slowly, "So, you’ve also come because of the earthquake in Sichuan City?"
"Yes," Luo Qianqian nodded repeatedly, "I said I dreamt it."
"I also said it was a dream, but my brother didn’t believe me, neither did my parents," Qin Nuan grimaced, then smiled brightly again, "Fortunately, I have you. Now brother must already be suspicious."
"I didn’t think I would meet someone like-minded," Luo Qianqian smiled, "I thought I was the only one."
"When I first came back, I thought I had turned into a ghost filled with grievances, but then I suddenly found out that my brother was still very young and had not graduated yet," Qin Nuan held Luo Qianqian’s hand, "We should be thankful for the opportunity given by heaven to see people’s true faces."
Luo Qianqian looked at Qin Nuan with a weird expression, "I just fainted and came back, nothing happened."
"???" Qin Nuan’s eyes widened in disbelief, "I was murdered, by the way, how could someone as young as you be in such a place?"
"It’s a long story." Luo Qianqian sighed. Since she never expected to meet someone like her, she did not hide anything from Qin Nuan and opened up. Qin Nuan’s eyes bulged, "Your brother is Luo Shufan?"
"Yes," Luo Qianqian nodded, puzzled, but still kindly explained, "In my past life, my brother was inconspicuous and didn’t stand out. He married and had kids early."
Qin Nuan shook her head, "Luo Shufan died because of his wife’s affair; before passing away, the last thing he did was transfer all his savings into his sister’s account. It was famous at the time."
Luo Qianqian’s eyes widened, "What? When did this happen?"
"Autumn of 2015," Qin Nuan frowned, "Soon after that, Mother Luo also couldn’t take the shock and passed away."
Tears burst from Luo Qianqian’s eyes in an instant. What? She didn’t know any of it, nothing at all. Could it be that her return was due to her mother and brother’s longing?
"It’s over now, don’t think about it. Aren’t you fine?" Qin Nuan, being an adult and someone who had been married in her previous life, was naturally much more mature in her thoughts and mind than the still naïve Luo Qianqian, "The future can be changed."
Luo Qianqian clenched her fists, thinking of her brother, whose whereabouts were currently unknown, nodded, and wiped away her tears, "You’re right. So how did you come back?"
"Me? I’ve just had a streak of bad luck," Qin Nuan gave a bitter smile. "You can’t even imagine."
"A crime of passion? The kind over money?"
"You’re really smart," Qin Nuan nodded. "Huge insurance policy, sole beneficiary, affair, infidelity—I can’t figure out how I was so blind to fall for such a person. Fortunately, everything is still salvageable."
"Now the problem is how to handle next year’s stuff," Luo Qianqian said with a troubled frown. "The rest can be taken care of slowly over time."
"Hmm? Why has my brother’s office turned into a study room?" Qin Nuan pushed open the door to Qin Liang’s office and felt bewildered at the sight of all sorts of reference books and practice workbooks, then turned to Luo Qianqian, "Do you have another minor here besides yourself?"
Luo Qianqian replied with a face full of deadpan lines, "I’m using them. I have to take the college entrance exams next year."
"That’s awesome," Qin Nuan gave a thumbs up. When she came back, it was right after the exams had finished. She had drunk too much at the celebration party and hit her head on the way home. While she was unconscious and before she had even chosen her college preferences, it had allowed her to steer clear of the mistakes of her previous life, "It’s different for me. I had finished my exams by the time I fell in love. Otherwise, if I had to study again, I doubt I’d have the perseverance."
"Sigh, I worked my way up from a young age. It’s almost like I went through every experience, including wetting the bed." This couldn’t be helped. Thinking about it carefully, in her previous life, besides that one time, she had never been injured to the point of unconsciousness, and she would always regain consciousness before a fever broke.
"Is my brother treating you like how he used to take care of me?" Qin Nuan pursed her lips. As a child, she hadn’t been keen to get close to her elder brother, who only knew about studying and wasn’t as kind to her as her second brother. But redoing life, she felt much closer to him, even though her brother was just not good with words.
"He’s practically treating me like his daughter," Luo Qianqian said as she took out a cloth. "You have no idea, I even have to learn needlework!!!"
"I’ve told you dozens of times, that’s training for suturing," Qin Liang said as he carried in some washed fruit and entered the office, feeling a bit awkward to see his sister standing elegantly in the room. "Nuan Nuan, take a seat."
"Nuan Nuan, pfft." Luo Qianqian covered her mouth, teasingly looking at Qin Nuan’s annoyed and embarrassed expression. "Have you ever played it? That dress-up game?"
"I knew it, you would definitely say that," Qin Nuan pursed her lips. "Brother, you should tell her off, she’s making fun of me."
Watching his coquettish sister, Qin Liang zoned out. When had his sister become so close to him?
Luo Qianqian innocently looked at Qin Liang, "Boss, I didn’t."
Qin Liang was speechless for a moment. What was he supposed to do in a quarrel between two girls? He quietly closed the door and made an excuse to leave, not wanting to guess the inscrutable minds of women. If his sister had come all this way to find Luo Qianqian, it meant she cared deeply, and he didn’t want to do his sister a favor only to be blamed by her later. Besides, it was clear the two girls thought he was in the way, so he just left. Qin Liang went off to train alone.
"Here’s what I’m thinking..." Qin Nuan, seeing the obstructive person had left, didn’t hesitate to share her thoughts.
After listening, Luo Qianqian nodded repeatedly, quickly agreeing, "If that’s what you think, I have a good candidate, and I’ve had special training before coming here. It’s no problem to pull off a little trick, but we can’t guarantee everyone will see it."
"You have a candidate? Are you sure?" Qin Nuan looked thoughtful. "If it’s not certain, then we shouldn’t use them, after all, this is a big deal."
"Don’t worry, my choice is one hundred percent reliable, and will definitely meet your standards. I’ll bring her to meet you when I go back for my exams, and you’ll see how true my words are," Luo Qianqian said confidently, a curve forming on her lips, then pulled out her phone. "How can I contact you? There’s no signal here. If you need to reach me, you have to call the boss’s landline."
Qin Nuan deftly entered her phone number into the mobile, sighing with a frustrated expression, "The hardest thing when I came back was getting used to the phone. It’s a bit better now."
Luo Qianqian nodded in agreement, remembering how when she first returned, mobile phones weren’t even widespread. But being able to come back was better than anything else, so she wouldn’t complain about the little things.
After exchanging contact information and discussing a bit more, the two set up a time to meet after Luo Qianqian returned. Qin Nuan then left reluctantly, having to attend her classes. Qin Liang saw his sister off and looked at Luo Qianqian with an increasingly strange gaze, yet he never asked the question on his mind.
