Chapter 168: Chapter 157: Running Warms You Up
"Luo Qianqian, get up now!" Luo Shufan banged on his younger sister’s room door early in the morning, but since he had reminded her to lock the door last night, there was no waking her up before daybreak.
"I! Want! To! Sleep!" Luo Qianqian’s vigorous voice penetrated the door, reaching Luo Shufan’s ears.
"Luo Qianqian, this is the military, not your home, come on, get up!" Luo Shufan was really at his wit’s end. If this were at home, he’d have lifted the covers by now, but he couldn’t even enter the room now.
Luo Qianqian groggily opened her eyes, staring at the ceiling. Wait, why the underside of a bunk? The military? Luo Qianqian quickly bounced up, changed into the smallest-sized camouflage suit Luo Yanhai had given her, which she had altered to fit, grabbed her toiletries, and opened the door, causing Luo Shufan to stumble into the room.
"Hurry up... Oh, you’re up," Luo Shufan realized his sister was already awake, eyeing the tailored camouflage suit that barely hid her frail figure, he felt a distinct disdain—it would be an insult to sprouts to call her a sprout.
"Where was the washroom again?" Everything around looked the same, Luo Qianqian genuinely forgot where to go to wash up.
"Why don’t you wait a bit longer, or I could fetch the water for you," thinking of the crowded washbasin room, Luo Shufan dared not let Luo Qianqian squeeze in.
"Have you eaten yet?" The next thing Luo Qianqian thought of was the scramble for food in the military. Had he managed to get food for her given she got up so late? "Brother, did you get food for me?"
"Pfft." Luo Yanhai, having just finished his morning exercise and washing up, was thinking about taking his brother and sister to breakfast when he overheard his sister’s words and couldn’t help but laugh.
"Big brother, did you get food for me?" Seeing the stainless steel lunchbox in Luo Yanhai’s hand, Luo Qianqian blinked, her face full of hope.
Luo Yanhai patted Luo Qianqian’s head, "Breakfast doesn’t start until 7:30, no rush."
Luo Qianqian gave Luo Shufan a fierce glare; he looked baffled. Was it his fault? He hadn’t even had the chance to reply, right?
"Big brother, I feel cold wearing these..." Within her camouflage suit, Luo Qianqian could only fit a thermal shirt and two sweaters, and she even wore two pairs of wool pants, which she then showed Luo Yanhai.
"You won’t be able to run if you wear this much..." Luo Yanhai’s perception of his sister’s tolerance to cold was refreshed once again. She usually looks fine in skirts when they’re back home with mom, so why is she this cold-sensitive?
"But it’s really cold," Luo Qianqian refused to undress.
"You might sweat and catch a cold like this," Luo Yanhai frowned, "You’ll warm up once you start running, I’m not lying to you." He then lifted his own clothes to show that he only wore a long-sleeve and a short-sleeve underneath, both made of very breathable material.
"Brother, how many layers are you wearing?" Luo Qianqian pouted as she looked at Luo Shufan.
"Just thermal underwear, nothing else," Luo Shufan shared a room with Luo Yanhao, and seeing others wearing so little, he felt embarrassed to wear more. He felt cold coming out as well, but he endured it.
"Aren’t you cold?" Luo Qianqian looked skeptically at her brother.
Under Luo Yanhai’s gaze, Luo Shufan swallowed the word ’cold’ and shook his head, "It’s bearable." He didn’t outright lie and say he felt warm, but that it was bearable. Seeing his sister’s bed layered with three quilts, Luo Shufan thought Luo Qianqian was indeed very fortunate.
"Liar," Luo Qianqian didn’t believe him, but still, she pouted and removed one layer of her sweater and pants, adamantly refusing to take off the second layer.
After washing up, Luo Yanhai took them to the cafeteria: "There are trays over there, you use those to eat. Take as much as you can eat without wasting."
Seeing the fist-sized buns, Luo Yanhai took two. Luo Qianqian swallowed hard, scooped a small bowl of porridge, took one egg, and grabbed some pickles.
"Eating so little will make you hungry later," Luo Yanhao sneaked up behind Luo Qianqian, adding another egg to her tray and pulling out a bread and a box of milk from his pocket, "I got these from uncle," he winked at Luo Qianqian.
Luo Qianqian nodded gratefully. Luo Yanhai watched the scene silently; after all, it was his own sister, he couldn’t be too hard on her.
"Brother, can you finish that?" After sitting down, Luo Qianqian stared at the large bun on Luo Shufan’s plate. Normally, her brother eats even less than her for breakfast, right?
"Yes." As he spoke, his eyes darted around; everyone either had two or three buns, and his was already the least, that is, excluding his sister’s.
"Don’t look at others, no leftovers allowed," Luo Yanhai spoke softly.
Seeing everyone seated at the table, one official at the first table said, "Let’s eat" and only then did they start eating. However, Luo Family’s Eldest Uncle, Luo Xisi, was not in the dining hall.
"The Eldest Uncle has a private kitchen..." Luo Yanhao whispered.
Luo Yanhai glared at him, "No talking during meals."
Luo Yanhao obediently shut his mouth.
— First table divider —
"Why did Yanhai go to eat in the back today?"
"Did you see the kid beside him? His sister, he went to take care of her. Old Master Luo sent her here to train, heard she was being bullied."
"How did Yanhao end up mixing with our group?"
"Worry about your sister and shut up; Luo Yanhai is looking this way."
——
"Try to keep up with the training pace, I’ll come find you during the noon break," Luo Yanhao said, greeting them with a nod before slipping away, since they weren’t training together after all.
"Class Three leader, Luo Qianqian and Luo Shufan are under your charge this week." Luo Yanhai gave his siblings a couple of glances then formally issued his command to his subordinate.
The leader of Class Three, a brawny man, immediately stood at attention and saluted, "Yes, sir!"
"Wang Zhi, you take Luo Qianqian; Sun Ren, you take Luo Shufan, back to formation!" The Class Three leader casually assigned two people to take charge of the Luo siblings, but Luo Qianqian could tell that this Wang Zhi was definitely the best in the class. Otherwise, why would he look at her, an obvious burden, without batting an eye?
"Call me if you need anything, I am Li Dazhuang," the leader said as he glanced at Luo Yanhai, then turned and said to the siblings. Luo Qianqian couldn’t help thinking that he truly fit his brawny name which seemed to contain a bit of blessing in it.
"Yes," Luo Shufan quickly adapted to the military mode.
Seeing her brother’s actions, Luo Qianqian quickly also saluted, "Yes."
"Begin basic training, take your squads back," Luo Yanhai, looking at the people beside the training field and seeing Luo Qianqian seemed rather happy, confidently walked to the side.
——
"How is it? No trouble, I hope?" The man wore a hat, deliberately pulling the brim low, his features obscured from those on the field.
"Who? Qianqian or the Xu Family?" Luo Yanhai looked at the reckless man in front of him and smirked, "Grandpa has been mentioning you for days. Won’t you go home to see him?"
"No, I just came to check on the little rascal; I’ll be leaving soon." The man was taken aback, then shook his head with a smile, "That old man probably lacks someone to play chess with."
"Qianqian is fine, but with you turning your phone off every day yet still knowing so much, how do you expect us, who live only a few dozen kilometers away, to operate?" Luo Yanhai raised an eyebrow, looking at the man, "You better confess, do you have someone tipping you off?"
The man pulled at his mouth but still didn’t smile, "You should say you are being watched; if anything happens to me, there won’t be a good outcome for you either."
"Don’t think too much; everything is pretty good right now, grandma and grandpa are both fine," Luo Yanhai was taken aback and took a moment before continuing.
The man waved his hand, "Don’t mention that I came by, I’m off first, take care of the elderly and the young."
Leaving nonchalantly.
A gust of cold wind lifted one corner of the hat, even though it was quickly grasped and pulled back down by the man. But that sharply defined face, it was unmistakably ’Killer God’ Luo Xiying.
