Chapter 488 - Chapter 488 Chapter 476 Relying on Men
Chapter 488: Chapter 476: Relying on Men Chapter 488: Chapter 476: Relying on Men Shi Xinyu had been playing golf since she was very young, while Lu Jiaxin had only come into contact with this sport for the rich three years ago. She had been busy recently and neglected practice, resulting in a rather crushing defeat.
After finishing a round, Shi Xinyu joked, “What a pity we didn’t bet on the game.”
Lu Jiaxin said with a smile, “I’ll treat you to afternoon tea.”
After the game, the two chatted as they walked back. Not seeing Chen Weiwei, Shi Xinyu asked, “Sister Shimeng, where’s Miss Chen?”
Zong Shimeng smiled and replied, “She went to the bathroom.”
Shi Xinyu invited Zong Shimeng to play a round but was politely declined, “I haven’t been feeling well these past two days, next time, next time I’ll join you.”
Lu Jiaxin immediately understood, it must be that time of the month, and after sitting down, she said with a smile, “I just lost, so the afternoon tea is on me.”
Zong Shimeng mentioned that she had to go back after eating because her child had been unwell the last couple of days and would look for her when he woke up from his nap.
Lu Jiaxin remembered something she had said before and inquired, “Sister Shimeng, didn’t you say you wanted to start a children’s clothing brand? Have you found any brand you like?”
If not, she could recommend one.
Chen Weiwei returned and happened to hear this, her surprise evident as she looked toward Zong Shimeng and spoke, “Sister-in-law, you want to start a children’s clothing brand? You have three children; don’t you need to take care of them?”
Lu Jiaxin’s expression soured.
Zong Shimeng offered a proper smile, “My youngest is already three years old, and we have a nanny and a childminder at home, so there’s no need to watch him every second.”
Chen Weiwei disapprovingly retorted, “At the age of three, children are most clingy to their mothers. How can you just abandon your children to go do business?”
That remark made it hard for Zong Shimeng to keep her smile.
Lu Jiaxin looked at her and asked, “How old are you this year?”
“24, why?”
“Oh, 24,” replied Lu Jiaxin, “I thought you were 64 already, otherwise why would you be so full of feudal remnants thinking that a woman can only stay home and take care of children.”
“So what if she has three children? Can having three children not coexist with having her own career? Wake up, this is a new era, women are no less than men.”
Chen Weiwei, with a stiff face, said, “New era women? That sounds nice, but aren’t you here just because of Nie Zhan? Otherwise, who would know who you are?”
Shi Xinyu scoffed, “Sister Jiaxin is not like some people who always think about relying on men. Everything she has is earned through her own hard work.”
“Only a fool would believe that.”
Lu Jiaxin thought Fu Ye must be out of his mind to be engaged to such a woman, and even getting married at the end of the year–he’d probably offend countless people in social settings. But for a scoundrel like Fu Ye, being matched with such an idiot was just right; better to not go out and harm any other nice girls.
Furiously, Shi Xinyu retorted, “Who are you calling a fool? Take a good look in the mirror to see just how disgusting your clownish antics are. And you claim that you and Brother Ye fell in love when you were sixteen and were each other’s first loves? Fu Ye was in love at fourteen; what first love are you talking about!”
Ah, so there’s gossip like this!
Chen Weiwei snapped, “What nonsense are you spouting? Brother Ye and I are each other’s first loves.”
“To believe such a lie and still have the nerve to call others fools, tsk.”
Chen Weiwei ran off with reddened eyes.
Shi Xinyu said disdainfully, “Who is this person? Sister-in-law, why did you invite her? It really spoils the mood.”
Zong Shimeng, worried something might happen, had her assistant follow up and then explained to the two of them, “I only found out in the car over here that Fu Ye was bringing his fiancee, if we had known earlier, we would have made other arrangements.”
Lu Jiaxin didn’t want to see Fu Ye at all, “The sun is too strong today, let’s go shopping! It’s been so long since we shopped for new clothes.”
Zong Shimeng had no objections, and Shi Xinyu couldn’t be happier. Compared to playing golf, she much preferred shopping.
The four men were having a good time talking when Hu Zhifeng’s secretary came over with a phone and said, “Boss, it’s your wife.”
After finishing the call, Hu Zhifeng said to Fu Ye, “Miss Chen just had a bit of unpleasantness with Miss Lu and Miss Shi, you better go find her!”
Nie Zhan had anticipated this, so he was the most composed.
Upon hearing this, Fu Ye immediately went to find her.
Tao Yong also wanted to go, but was stopped by Hu Zhifeng, “You don’t need to go. My wife said the sun is too strong today, so they’ve gone shopping.”
The shopping was just an excuse; the real reason was to avoid playing with Miss Chen. His wife usually had a good sense of the big picture, so he couldn’t understand why she didn’t smooth things over this time.
After a while, Fu Ye returned and reported that he had sent Chen Weiwei back with his driver. As for the argument the women had just had, the four men did not bring it up–there was no need.
That evening, when he got home, Hu Zhifeng asked Zong Shimeng, “Why did you three go shopping and leave Miss Chen alone at the golf course?”
Zong Shimeng was originally very happy with the day’s outing, but her mood soured at the mention of Chen Weiwei’s name, “Wasn’t Fu Ye at the golf course? And Miss Chen is over twenty years old, there are many staff at the golf course, she can’t get lost.”
Hu Zhifeng sensed her irritation, “Why are you angry too?”
Zong Shimeng was usually easy-going, not without temper, “I told Jiaxin before that I wanted to start a children’s clothing brand once Xiaobao started elementary school. Today, Jiaxin brought it up and said she knew of two good children’s clothing brands she wanted to recommend to me. Chen Weiwei happened to overhear and accused me of being too selfish and neglecting my child.”
Hu Zhifeng was aware of her plan to start a children’s clothing brand and didn’t object to his wife doing something she enjoyed when their younger son started school.
He had met Chen Weiwei during an engagement party but hadn’t interacted with her much, he shook his head and said, “How did you end up with such a fiancee?”
Yu Meitong before was a bit presumptuous, but she was a decent person. The current one, however, was simply not presentable.
Zong Shimeng said in a displeased tone, “Next time you arrange to meet him, let me know in advance, and I won’t go. Sister Jiaxin and the others won’t either.”
“Alright.”
Zong Shimeng said, “I used to think Meitong was too impulsive, but now it seems, luckily she called off the engagement. Otherwise, with his character, marrying him would mean living a life bathed in tears.”
Hu Zhifeng, not being one to talk about integrity himself, quickly changed the subject to the stock market, “Ah Zhan got news yesterday that the stock guru in America has dumped all his stocks, so I’m going to sell all my stocks as soon as the market opens tomorrow.”
“You’d better sell them quickly.”
Meanwhile, Nie Zhan also inquired about how Lu Jiaxin’s day went. Knowing she hadn’t been at a disadvantage, he was relieved, “If you don’t like her, you don’t have to hang out with her in the future, no need to get upset.”
Lu Jiaxin wasn’t upset, just baffled, “She’s also been educated at a higher level, so how can she still have such a sexist mindset?”
Nie Zhan knew about Chen Weiwei’s background, “Before she was twelve, she lived with her grandmother in the countryside. After twelve, she came back to go to school, but by then her beliefs were already solidified, and it’s difficult for her to change.”
“My aunt also grew up with my grandmother and thinks men are superior, even though my uncle married into her family, she obeys his every command.”
Lu Jiaxin lost interest and pulled Nie Zhan back to the room to try on the new clothes she had bought.
