Chapter 471 - Chapter 471 Chapter 459 Distrustful

Chapter 471: Chapter 459 Distrustful Chapter 471: Chapter 459 Distrustful Kang Huijuan turned herself in to the police station, and Lu Jiaxin soon found out. This was unexpected for her; she had thought the Nie Family would cover for her for the sake of the three children, then the serious matter would be downplayed.

“Boss, should we head back now?” Yan Yijun asked.

Looking at the calm water surface where the fishing line showed no sign of movement, Lu Jiaxin said softly, “No rush, let’s stay for another two days.”

She had been staying at a beachside house rented from a local fisherman for the past two days. The first day, she followed the fishermen to an island where she collected bird eggs, wild duck eggs, and turtle eggs; she also gathered a good amount of fish, shrimps, and crabs when the tide was low.

The next morning, she went clamming at dawn, and now with the abundant sea resources, Lu Jiaxin led her group to a bountiful collection filling two large baskets. Among them, Yan Yijun’s quick reactions allowed him to snatch a five-pound garoupa, six strands of red silk, and also eels, octopuses, and yellow croakers.

Lu Jiaxin herself picked up eight large blue crabs. Loving crab the most, she prepared spicy blue crab, garlic steamed blue crab with vermicelli, and stir-fried blue crab with rice cakes for lunch, accompanied by shrimps, sea snails, and fish–a full table.

Yan Yijun and Li Qing had previously restrained themselves when it came to eating, but for the past two days, they let go and enjoyed the abundance of food that kept coming in.

With strong ultraviolet rays from the July sun, Lu Jiaxin didn’t go out after lunch but stayed indoor watching television or listening to the radio. She was indifferent to which channel it was, only watching the news and financial reports, and never the soap operas.

When the sun was about to set around five o’clock, she went for a swim. Given that this was a small fishing village, out of consideration for the impact, Miao Na’s swimsuit was very conservative this time. Yet, with her good figure, the conservatism didn’t stop Yan Yijun and Li Qing from feeling awkward.

Lu Jiaxin ignored the behavior of the two. Gu Wenfeng, witnessing the scantily-clad beauties by the seaside for the first time, wished he could turn invisible, but after a few days, he had become numb to it and didn’t care anymore.

In the evening, Lu Jiaxin took another walk by the beach. Noticing the sand was fine and soft, she simply removed her shoes and stepped directly onto it. Hmm, it was like treading on a down carpet.

When she grew tired from walking, Lu Jiaxin sat down directly on the beach. The night scenery was beautiful, with the moon casting speckles of light on the sea surface.

Breezes wafted in from the sea, and the trees by the shore rustled softly.

Miao Na watched her sitting blatantly on the beach, twitching her eyelid. Jiaxin was picky at home, yet without constraints and carefree abroad; she found her boss truly hard to figure out.

Lying on the beach and admiring the beautiful scenery, Lu Jiaxin suddenly laid down on the sand and then, laughing, asked Miao Na what her dream was.

After a moment of thought, Miao Na said, “When I was young, my dream was to become a ballet dancer and to perform on the stage of the Huadu Opera House one day.”

Miao Na, who had dreamed of becoming a dancer as a child, ended up as a mercenary. Life was truly unpredictable.

Smiling, Lu Jiaxin asked, “Do you know what my dream was when I was a child?”

Without hesitation, Miao Na said, “To become a top international designer?”

Lu Jiaxin shook her head and said, “No, my dream as a child was to hope that my family could live together happily forever. Unfortunately, that dream would always remain just that–a dream.”

Even though her parents divorced after her college entrance examination, the impact on her was profound, with one consequence being that she found it hard to believe in love again. After her parents remarried and had their own families, they claimed to still love her, but things were never the same, especially after they had other children, making the change even more apparent. The concept of ‘home’ no longer meant the same to her.

Knowing her backstory, Miao Na became silent and then said, “You’re leading a very happy life now. Your mother, watching from heaven, must be very pleased.”

Lu Jiaxin simply smiled and said no more.

The sea breeze was comfortable on her skin, lulling her into sleepiness. She thought about buying a plot of land here to build a villa, but this idea flashed through her mind and she dismissed it. Seawater was corrosive, affecting mostly the interior rather than exterior of houses. Given how infrequently she stayed there, she couldn’t be bothered to renovate every three or four years–it was too troublesome.

After a moment’s hesitation, Miao Na said, “Boss, we’ve been out for two days, shouldn’t we be heading back?”

Lu Jiaxin squinted her eyes as if she had fallen asleep, and Miao Na knew she didn’t want to go back.

The next morning, before dawn, Lu Jiaxin went to the sea again. In her previous life, she had also gone to collect seafood from the sea, but huge grouper and crabs aside, she had never even seen a single small fish–it was all tiny shrimp and crabs the size of a thumb. Because they were scarce, they seemed all the more precious.

After returning from the sea, Lu Jiaxin washed up from head to toe before calling Su Heyuan.

Upon hearing her voice, Su Heyuan let out a sigh of relief, “Jiaxin, where have you been? Do you have any idea how frantic Nie Zhan has been looking for you? It’s one thing to go to the Mainland without telling her, but why couldn’t your phone be reached?”

Lu Jiaxin’s expression remained very calm, “Do you know why I didn’t answer his calls?”

Su Heyuan’s face changed immediately, “Did he do something to betray you?” “That’s not right, he adores you; there’s no way he would find another woman outside.”

To prevent him from making more wild guesses, Lu Jiaxin said, “The mastermind behind my kidnapping was Kang Huijuan. I received news yesterday that she went to the police station to turn herself in.”

“Ah…”

Su Heyuan was furious, no wonder Lu Jiaxin didn’t want to see Nie Zhan, he wouldn’t want to deal with him either. Although somewhat annoyed with Nie Zhan, he still said, “Even though Nie Zhan can’t wash his hands of the kidnapping, he didn’t want such a thing to happen. Jiaxin, hiding like this isn’t the answer; even if you want to break up, you should at least say it to his face.”

Three-legged toads are hard to find, but two-legged men are everywhere. Nie Zhan is not bad, but with Lu Jiaxin’s qualifications, she could find someone better than him.

Lu Jiaxin said, “The one who should hide is Kang Huijuan, not me. I just wanted to clear my head and plan for the future.”

“Have you finished planning?”

“More or less, I’ll talk to you about it when I get back.”

“When will you be back?”

“Tomorrow.”

After hanging up the phone, Su Heyuan waited for a while before calling Nie Zhan, “Why did Kang Huijuan want to kidnap Jiaxin?”

Nie Zhan asked anxiously, “Is Jiaxin back?”

Knowing that Lu Jiaxin didn’t want to see him yet, Su Heyuan didn’t tell the truth, “She’s still in a bad mood and wants to stay outside for a couple more days. Nie Zhan, why did Kang Huijuan kidnap Jiaxin?”

Mentioning Kang Huijuan made Nie Zhan’s anger flare, “Jiaxin comes from the Mainland, which Kang Huijuan looked down upon, but seeing Jiaxin live a better life made her jealous.”

“That’s why?”

“Yes,” said Nie Zhan. In fact, he suspected there were other reasons, but he dared not say them. After the hotel incident, when he abandoned the business halfway, it enraged the old man, making Nie Jingwen pay the compensation and reclaiming the assets in his hand. At that moment, Kang Huijuan would have held a grudge against him; also, Jingting would always use Jiaxin to provoke her, saying Jiaxin from the Mainland was better than her at everything, and instead of reflecting on her own problems, she’d blame others, which was very low.

Kang Huijuan held grudges against both him and Jingting but didn’t dare to deal with them, so she took it out on Jiaxin. She probably thought that Jiaxin had no powerful support and wanted to find some thug to teach her a lesson.

Su Heyuan cursed, “Your carelessness has put Jiaxin in danger. This time, Jiaxin was lucky to escape, but what about next time? Will she be just as fortunate then?”

“There won’t be a next time.”

“I don’t believe that, nor does Jiaxin trust you anymore.”
