Lu Jiaxin fell silent for a moment before asking, “Did you mention this to Uncle Xie?”

His own bodyguard was a retired special forces soldier from the Mainland, found through his personal connections. Upon hearing this, Jiaxin agreed, and then she brought up Hu Huihui, “I called the Elder Madam of Hu Family, but her youngest son has a fever. We’ll have to wait until the child recovers before meeting.”

Su Heyuan expressed no urgency and brought up the kidnapper issue with Jiaxin, “I found an old detective from the Mainland with a wealth of experience, and discussed your case with him. He suggested that the mastermind might not be the enemy we have in mind.”

It was because of consulting this old detective that he returned a day late.

Jiaxin was taken aback, “You mean, a woman who likes Nie Zhan, envious because she cannot have him, so she wants to kill me out of jealousy?”

Su Heyuan thought it was not an impossibility.

Jiaxin denied this theory, “Nie Zhan only had a girlfriend during college, and since then, he hasn’t been in any relationships. If what you’re saying is true, and a woman really liked him that much, she would definitely have tried to have her parents arrange a match. Getting agitated by all the thinking, Jiaxin decided to stop pondering the issue. She changed into sports attire and went out for a run, not stopping until she was dripping with sweat and out of breath, then she sat down to rest.

Miao Na handed her a bottle of water and asked, “Boss, are you still troubled by the kidnapper issue?”

Jiaxin nodded and replied, “I feel nervous every time I step out until we catch the mastermind. Miao Na, who do you think the mastermind could be?”

Miao Na shook her head, suggesting she had no idea, “Isn’t Mr. Nie investigating? He’s so capable, he should find out soon.”

Jiaxin felt that she couldn’t rely entirely on Nie Zhan; she had to investigate herself too. Following the detective’s analysis, she’d need to start looking from the opposite angle of what Nie Zhan was investigating.

After resting and preparing to go upstairs for a shower, Nie Zhan called to say he had a social engagement and would be very late, so she shouldn’t wait for him for dinner.
