Chapter 287 - Chapter 287 Chapter 276 Fertilizer Water Does Not Flow to
Chapter 287: Chapter 276: Fertilizer Water Does Not Flow to Outsiders’ Fields Chapter 287: Chapter 276: Fertilizer Water Does Not Flow to Outsiders’ Fields Having arrived at Wan Sheng Bank, Nie Zhan directly took Lu Jiaxin to the general manager’s office. There, Lu Jiaxin met his older brother, Nie Jingwen. Although they were cousins, the two brothers looked quite alike, probably due to the strong Nie Family genes.
Nie Zhan introduced them to each other.
Nie Jingwen said with a smile, “Miss Lu, I’ve mentioned several times to Nie Zhan that we should have a meal together, but this kid is afraid I might scare you and doesn’t want to bring you out.”
Seeing his attitude, Lu Jiaxin thought the Nie Family was rather nice. Usually, wealthy families are as contentious as feuding chickens, like the Su family and the He Family, but the Nie Family was different.
Lu Jiaxin smiled shyly, as being too slick at her age would be inappropriate.
After the three of them sat down, Nie Zhan said, “Big brother, I’ve already mentioned over the phone, these items are hard-to-find treasures, I hope you can give us a good price.”
Nie Jingwen also gave face to Nie Zhan, saying, “Don’t worry, once the experts confirm everything is genuine, I’ll definitely offer a price that satisfies Miss Lu.”
Lu Jiaxin was pleased, “Thank you, Mr. Nie.”
“What Mr. Nie? You should call me big brother.”
Lu Jiaxin couldn’t bring herself to say it, as she and Nie Zhan weren’t officially dating yet. She didn’t argue, though, as Nie Zhan was there, and she lowered her head, feigning shyness.
Nie Jingwen found her bashful demeanor amusing. Over the years, his mother and second aunt introduced countless young ladies to Nie Zhan, but he wasn’t interested in any of them. There were rumors in magazines that he liked men, which made his mother panic. Yet, surprisingly, he ended up being attracted to a middle school student. When the news spread, his mother worried that Lu Jiaxin might be a woman with deep schemes.
The secretary quickly brought over two cups of coffee.
Nie Zhan promptly said to the secretary, “Go buy two glasses of blueberry juice.”
The secretary was startled and looked towards his own boss before leaving after seeing him nod.
Nie Zhan explained to Nie Jingwen, “Jiaxin doesn’t drink coffee, she usually only drinks plain water and fruit juice.”
Lu Jiaxin’s face burned with embarrassment; this man was disregarding the situation.
Nie Jingwen, seeing her reaction, started discussing the merchandise, “Miss Lu, what items are you mortgaging this time? Knowing this will allow me to call the relevant experts for appraisal.”
Lu Jiaxin said, “Jade, calligraphy and paintings, porcelain; these three are the big tickets. Among the jade, there are six varieties of jewelry, including imperial green, lavender, and spring colors.”
Nie Jingwen asked with some surprise, “Miss Lu, your mother had so many fine items, may I ask what your ancestors did?”
Lu Jiaxin said with a smile, “My ancestors were poor. In the past, the Mainland was quite difficult, and these items weren’t valuable, so my parents were astute and collected them in private.”
Soon, the secretary brought over the blueberry juice, placed it in front of Lu Jiaxin, and left the room, stealing a glance at her before leaving.
After a short while, Gu Wenfeng and Su Heyuan arrived. Nie Jingwen got the message and immediately took Lu Jiaxin with him because he had notified them in advance, the items were directly moved into the bank’s vault.
Nie Jingwen said, “Miss Lu, could I have a look at that set of imperial green jewelry you mentioned?”
Since they were collateral, it didn’t matter if they weren’t shown now, as the appraisers would see them later anyway. Lu Jiaxin said, “These items are my mother’s beloved possessions, and she intentionally left them for me; I won’t sell them.”
Nie Jingwen thought the girl was indeed clever; she had blocked his request even before he could make it. But he was quick to respond, asking, “So, aside from the jewelry your mother left, you’re open to selling the other items?”
Lu Jiaxin said, “It still depends on the item. If it’s particularly precious, I cannot sell it; if it were to be lost to foreign countries, I’d be considered a criminal.”
Nie Jingwen’s friends were all either rich or noble; they wouldn’t be interested unless the items were rare treasures.
Mr. Nie said, “Big Brother, Jiaxin isn’t short of money and won’t sell, so make sure you don’t let it slip to others.”
Nie Jingwen looked at him with amusement, already siding with his future wife before they’ve even married.
After having seen everything in the box, Nie Jingwen also had an idea, “Miss Lu, I will invite someone to appraise these in two days. I’ll ask Ah Zhan to accompany you then.”
“Fine.”
After everything was securely locked in the safe, Lu Jiaxin herself held onto the key.
Once outside, Nie Jingwen suggested, “How about we have dinner together tonight?”
Nie Zhan didn’t refuse but mentioned he had something on at the moment, “On Sunday, I’ll invite you and my sister-in-law to have French cuisine. I’ll have Qing Lei reserve the best spot for us.”
“Is Miss Lu coming too?”
Nie Zhan indicated that Lu Jiaxin was busy with other matters and didn’t have time for now, so they would make plans another day.
Once outside and in the car, Nie Zhan explained, “I didn’t have your consent just now, so it wasn’t appropriate for me to accept my brother’s invitation.”
Lu Jiaxin replied with a smile, “I do need to return to the Mainland once this matter is settled; indeed, I won’t have time. I heard that your brother and your sister-in-law fell in love in college and got married right after graduation, is it true?”
Nie Jingwen and his wife are a loving couple with a son and a daughter, considered a role model couple in Hong Kong. Of course, Nie Jingwen’s wife also comes from a wealthy family, making them a good match.
Nie Zhan replied with a smile, “Yes, my sister-in-law was a junior to my brother. They met at a dance, and afterwards, they ended up together.”
Lu Jiaxin thought that someone like Nie Jingwen was quite rare, as rich young masters were never short of beautiful women.
Not wanting to be bombarded with questions, Lu Jiaxin chose to stay directly at a hotel.
When Su Heyuan arrived at the Peninsula Hotel, he asked, “Why have you moved to a hotel? Was the Guh Residence uncomfortable?”
Lu Jiaxin told him about how Ah Mei had inquired about her business that day, “I don’t like those people; they ask too many questions without any sense of propriety.”
Upon hearing this, Su Heyuan felt she could no longer stay at the Guh Residence, saying, “Let’s just stay at the hotel this time, and next time you’re back from the Mainland, you can stay at my place. I have many rooms; you can pick any one you like.”
Lu Jiaxin shook her head and declined, feeling it would be too inconvenient.
Su Heyuan argued, “What’s inconvenient about it? I am now your guardian; it’s only right for you to stay with me!”
Lu Jiaxin responded with a laugh, “The He Family hasn’t yet discovered Aunt’s condition; it’s not suitable to let outsiders know about it for now.”
Su Heyuan commented, “There are so many eyes of the He Family at the Guh Residence, and Madam Guh’s condition is worsening, this can’t be kept secret for long.”
Lu Jiaxin shared the same thought. However, since the guardianship had been transferred, even if the He Family found out about Guh Xiuxiu’s condition, it wouldn’t affect her. As for Guh Haifan, there was nothing she could do if Guh Xiuxiu was unwilling to relinquish guardianship. She would just have to wait until she turned eighteen and then figure something out.
Su Heyuan said, “You shouldn’t worry too much about Madam Guh’s affairs; her intentions when she brought you to Hong Kong weren’t pure to begin with.”
Lu Jiaxin didn’t keep her in the dark, “I knew before coming here that her purpose in bringing Haifan and me to Hong Kong was to ensure an extra layer of security for her old age. She hasn’t treated me poorly this year; I won’t ignore her affairs in the future either.”
Su Heyuan nodded and said, “As long as you’re aware, that’s good.”
