Chapter 270 - Chapter 270 Chapter 259 Lu Hongjuns Private Stash
Chapter 270: Chapter 259: Lu Hongjun’s Private Stash Chapter 270: Chapter 259: Lu Hongjun’s Private Stash Lu Jiaxin thought for a moment and asked, “Sister-in-law, we’ll buy you the house before the end of the year, is that okay?”
She would never let Wang Xiaojie go house hunting, as surely she would only look at four or five-room single-story houses. With four kids, one room per child, plus accounting for them getting married and having children in the future, they would need a residence with at least nine rooms.
Wang Xiaojie naturally had no objections, and she asked Lu Jiaxin, “Someone has introduced a matchmaker to your dad, do you know about this?”
“I heard about it, any prospects he likes?”
Wang Xiaojie had come over early not just for the house matter, but also to discuss this, “He hasn’t taken a fancy to anyone, and he told the matchmaker he’s not in the mood to look for someone right now. Jiaxin, it’s not that he doesn’t want to find someone, but he wants to find someone pretty and fashionable.”
Seeing Lu Jiaxin looking at her, Wang Xiaojie explained, “I’m not just guessing; last month, I took him shopping for clothes. At the mall, we ran into a woman in her forties who was dressed fashionably. She accidentally dropped her scarf, and your dad quickly went to pick it up for her, his movements even more agile than your elder brother’s.”
Lu Jiaxin indifferently said, “Let him be, it’s fine even if he’s capable of finding a thirty-year-old.”
Wang Xiaojie lowered her voice and said, “That won’t do! Jiaxin, your father has plenty of valuable things hidden away, you need to get them. Otherwise, if he really finds someone and those things get swindled away, you’ll end up having to provide for his old age, which would put you at a loss.”
She hadn’t given much thought to Lu Hongjun’s possessions. She would fight for what she could rightfully claim, like the house matter, but she wouldn’t touch what she shouldn’t.
Hearing this, Lu Jiaxin said offhandedly, “I’m not interested. Besides, with our current relationship, even if he had valuable things, he wouldn’t give them to me.”
Wang Xiaojie responded, “Jiaxin, you’re wrong. You are his only daughter; his things must be given to you. Otherwise, your elder brother, second brother, and Fifth Brother would never agree.”
She had her own ulterior motives. Although Lu Jiaxin had promised to take care of Lu Hongjun’s later years, she had moved Mrs. Lu’s grave and definitely wouldn’t come back if it wasn’t necessary. If Lu Hongjun passed on a large fortune to someone else, and she decided not to care out of anger, it’s not like they could chase her to Hong Kong for support. But if Lu Hongjun’s possessions went to Lu Jiaxin, even if she didn’t return, given her personality, she would look after Lu Hongjun’s remaining years. Then they would just need to keep an eye on him, without having to spend money and effort.
Uninterested, Lu Jiaxin said, “Just those few measly items, I don’t care for them.”
Wang Xiaojie said softly, “Xinxin, those are not just a few measly items. I’m not sure about the exact amount, but there’s definitely a lot, and all valuable.”
Lu Jiaxin looked at her, puzzled.
Wang Xiaojie dropped her voice even lower, “Your elder brother once mentioned to me during a chat, saying your dad has been secretly collecting old items for over a decade. Your dad has high standards, he wouldn’t keep it if it wasn’t valuable.”
If it were other things, Lu Jiaxin really wouldn’t care, but she was interested in antiques, “Are you sure?”
Wang Xiaojie affirmed, “He told your elder brother in person, there can be no mistake. Jiaxin, you have to claim these things; you can’t let others benefit from them.”
Lu Jiaxin sincerely said, “I understand now, thank you, sister-in-law.”
Among all his nephews and nieces, Lu Hongjun trusted Lu Jiaguang the most. If the couple had been selfish, they could have swindled everything or at least half without any issue. But they hadn’t done that, which spoke volumes about their character.
After discussing the matter, Wang Xiaojie said, “Do you have any plans today? If not, the Second Sister-in-law Lu and I can take you out for a walk, buy some stuff.”
Lu Jiaxin shook her head, “Su Heyuan asked me to bring some things to Madam Xie, and I called her yesterday, I should go over later.”
Having taken rare time off, Wang Xiaojie wasn’t planning to go back to the hospital either, “Then you be busy; I’ll head home and cook lunch.”
As Lu Jiaxin was leaving, she told Second Sister-in-law Lu, “Sister-in-law, I won’t be back for lunch, don’t wait for me.”
“Ah, not coming back for lunch?”
“Madam Xie should have left food, I’ll eat dinner at home.”
Second Sister-in-law Lu, upon hearing it was Madam Xie, hurriedly urged, “Then you hurry up, don’t keep her waiting too long.”
“Yes, I’m leaving now.”
He still took a taxi, as he had grown accustomed to riding in a car in Hong Kong and was no longer willing to wait for a bus. Besides, getting to Madam Xie’s would require transferring twice, and the bus was too time-consuming.
Once in the car, Lu Jiaxin was glad she had exchanged ten thousand Green Currency before coming back; otherwise, even taking a taxi would be troublesome.
Normally, Lu Jiaxin would close her eyes and rest as soon as she got in the car, but she had slept well last night and was in a good mood, so she asked Gu Wenfeng, “Your son can call out to people now, right?”
“Yes, he calls me daddy when he sees me and even touched my face, saying it’s the real daddy.” Gu Wenfeng said. The children could recognize him because his wife showed them his photo every day.
Lu Jiaxin laughed heartily; children are just so adorable.
Bringing up his son, Gu Wenfeng had more to say, “He can already walk, and he sure can eat–a whopping five or six cans of milk powder every month.”
It was also a good thing that he worked for Lu Jiaxin, earning a salary of over one thousand Hua currency a month. Otherwise, with his previous salary of just over one hundred, how could they afford to drink so much milk powder. Moreover, milk powder wasn’t easy to buy in the Mainland; he had to purchase it and then ask someone to send it from Peng City. Not to mention, the shipping cost alone was a significant amount.
Lu Jiaxin said with a smile, “It’s good for a child to have a good appetite; they’re less likely to get sick being strong and healthy.”
A smile spread across Gu Wenfeng’s face, “Eating five or six cans of milk powder a month, and all that meat and eggs, it would be a shame if he wasn’t healthy.”
The driver, overhearing their conversation, couldn’t help but interject, “A month’s worth of five or six cans of milk powder, and lots of meat and eggs? Can your son fit all that in his belly?”
Lu Jiaxin cheerfully said, “Driver, I have twin sons, they’re twins.”
The driver, hearing this, grew envious, “Oh, twins? Brother, you are really lucky, getting two sons at once. I’ve had two daughters, and ah, still wanted a son, but the government won’t let us have more.”
Lu Jiaxin said with a smile, “You’re envious of having a few sons now, but when you’re old, you’ll know the value of daughters.”
That’s why family planning is good–if there’s no son, parents will invest all their effort in their daughter. Given limited resources, there’s still a preference for sons, but treating children equally is something many claim they can do but few actually achieve.
Gu Wenfeng chuckled, “As long as the children do well in the future, whether boys or girls, they will be filial to their parents. If they’re incapable and can’t even support themselves, relying on their parents to provide for them, that’s truly disheartening.”
The driver agreed wholeheartedly, “You’re absolutely right, it’s all about how you raise them. Raise them well, and a daughter can be very filial, maybe even more considerate than a son.”
Because the conversation was going so pleasantly, the driver offered to accept just twenty Hua currency for the ride.
Lu Jiaxin handed him a ten Green Currency bill, smiling, “It’s okay, I have enough greenbacks on me.”
The driver, upon hearing this, didn’t refuse any longer and joyfully accepted.
