Chapter 99: Conversation with Girls
Stepping into the room, Yur noticed many eyes fixed on him.
"Duke Yur," called Julian, who sat near the King. He patted the seat beside him, and Yur walked over. As he passed by the King, he paused and said, "Congratulations."
"You noticed, huh?" The King nodded with a small smirk. "Take a seat; there is much to discuss."
Yur sat beside Julian. Julian frowned. "Were you with my daughter?"
"Who else would I be with?" Yur replied, confused.
"You..." Julian began to flare, but the King, Bryant, patted his shoulder. "Calm down. He is her husband-to-be..."
"To be, not yet," Julian interjected.
"Don’t worry," Yur said calmly. "I am protecting her and keeping her happy."
"You better," Julian snorted.
The King shook his head and turned toward the nobles waiting for the meeting to start; most of them wore frowns.
"Now then, let’s get the meeting started!" the King declared, his voice echoing and showcasing the peak power of the kingdom.

"Aunty." Xia entered the garden where everyone was gathered. She found all her cousins and Zhal sitting and chatting; Zhal quiet, Vilis gesturing animatedly, while Ley chattered away.
"Xia!" Ley called, turning around happily. She rushed over and gave Xia a big hug. "You really are staying with him, huh?"
"Of course," Xia said, her face rosy with happiness.
"Look at you, all smiley," Ley commented with a smirk. "I don’t think you’ve smiled like this before."
From behind, Vilis beckoned Xia over.
Xia walked to her and received a big hug. "How are you, aunty?"
After a big kiss from Vilis, Xia smiled with childlike glee as Vilis signed a few words.
"He’s really good to me," Xia said, nodding. "Though it’s been an extremely short time, I really like him, like really." She sat beside Vilis, chatting excitedly.
In response, Vilis signed a few more words.
"Yeah, I know. You didn’t even know Uncle Bryant before your marriage," Xia laughed. "But you’re happy with him, right?"
With a gentle smile, Vilis nodded. She waved her hands again.
"Sure, I’ll tell you a bit more." Just as Xia was about to continue, her gaze fell on Zhal and Fren, who were nearby.
Although Zhal seemed lost in thought, Xia felt awkward discussing Yur in front of his brother; and with Fren, who was essentially like a brother to her, it was even more uncomfortable.
"Hey, Fren. Go away," Ley said, waving her hand in annoyance.
"I didn’t want to listen anyway," Fren muttered, but Vilis beckoned him over. He leaned down, and his cheek received a large kiss.
"Mom..." he rolled his eyes before walking away, wiping his cheek.
Vilis smiled at Zhal and waved.
"Sir Zhal, would you mind going for a walk?" Ley asked kindly. Unlike Fren, Zhal was someone she couldn’t be rude to, after all, he was the younger brother of someone important.
Zhal met Vilis’s gentle smile and accepted, walking away to give the girls some space.
"Now, tell us what’s going on," Ley said brightly, turning to Xia.
"Well, remember when I was told to stay at his place with you?" Ley nodded, and Vilis listened with a smile. "Well, he proposed that day to me!"
"What?" Shock etched on Ley’s face. "Didn’t he brush you off that same day?!"
"He did," Xia replied, rolling her eyes. "He said he was trying to act a certain way but admitted he didn’t know how."
Interjecting, Vilis signed a few more words.
"Yeah, do you guys really plan on getting married?" Ley translated, asking.
Xia lifted her finger to her chin. "He really wants to. He’s already told Dad about it and even made a public announcement."
"Isn’t that weird, though?" Ley asked, doubtful.
"What is?" Xia replied, confused.
"Think about it. This guy appeared out of nowhere, saw you for a second and suddenly is pushing for marriage?" Ley said with a frown. "Don’t get me wrong; he saved Renri and will be helpful to Uncle and Dad, but it all seems so odd."
Vilis nodded, signing her thoughts.
"Mom’s right. Do you even know anything about him?" Ley asked.
"Didn’t you and Mom also get married to Uncle and Dad without any real knowledge?" Xia retorted.
Vilis shook her head, communicating through signs.
"Xia, you know how royal marriages are. Although they never really knew each other, the families did. They weren’t complete strangers," Vilis signed, reinforcing her mother’s words. "I feel like you should learn more about him before deciding."
"But my Dad seems alright with it, right?" Xia asked, uncertainty creeping into her tone.
In response, she shook her head.
"With the war, everyone is busy, Xia. They aren’t focused on this too much," Ley said. "Do you really think Uncle would marry you off without a thought? Especially after—"
Before Ley could finish, Vilis pinched Xia’s arm sharply, glaring at her.
"Aunty, what do you think I should do? I really like him. He makes me feel safe and happy," Xia pleaded, her voice softening. "When I’m around him, it feels like I can be like I used to."
Hearing this, Vilis sighed and signed a few more words, looking at Xia with curiosity and concern.
"Uh..." Xia’s face blushed suddenly.
"No way..." Ley exclaimed in shock. "You already did... that?!"
Vilis flicked Xia’s forehead with exasperation and patted her own head as if exhausted.
"Xia, what the heck!" Ley scolded, feeling both frustrated and concerned. "Are you dumb? You aren’t even married yet!"
Seeing everyone’s frustrated looks, Xia lowered her head. "It just... happened."
"Just happened?!" Ley stood up and began pacing. "If Uncle finds out, he will kill him."
Hearing Ley’s words, Vilis nodded, then pinched Xia’s cheeks and mimicked a slapping motion.
"Aunty..." Xia whimpered, "sorry."
"This is serious, you know," Ley said, worry etched on her face. "As a royal, you probably can’t marry anyone since you’re not a virgin anymore."
"I’m going to marry Yur, so what’s the issue," Xia rebutted.
"Uncle won’t just let that happen," Ley snapped, her tone rising.
"He was actually the one who suggested it..." Xia murmured.
"So did my Dad," Ley admitted.
"What?" Xia looked at her cousin in shock.
"Don’t worry, as handsome as Yur is, I find him somewhat scary," Ley confessed. "But my point is, Uncle may have suggested it—that doesn’t mean you go off and sleep with him."
Vilis shook her head in agreement.
"Well, what do I do?" Xia asked, rubbing her reddened cheek.
"First, keep a distance from him," Ley said bluntly. "Then, try and learn about him slowly. If there’s a match, then go for it."
"How do I keep a distance? He is my guardian, and he won’t let me," Xia replied, looking down.
"Just tell your Dad; he’ll handle it," Ley suggested.
"But..." Deep down, Xia didn’t want to leave his side. Despite everything, it was the first time she felt so happy—something she couldn’t let go of.
Seeing her conflicted look, Vilis sighed softly, then gently shushed her.
"Alright, aunty, I understand. I’ll learn more about him first," Xia promised in a whisper.
"Don’t go sleeping with him again!" Ley snapped from the side.
"I’ll try..." Xia whispered, her voice trembling.
