Rearing Demons
Chapter 88: Confession

Chapter 88: Confession

Zul, shall we begin the first step?

Yur sat in his room. It was the main room of his large mansion, located within the Freau capital city, with a vast amount of land surrounding it.

[Host can begin!]

Yur contacted Velmira right away. Velmira, what is the progress?

I have disposed of the Luminous Heart Sect Master of Raging Dragons. I am also on my way to a few other sects that are involved in this war.

Hearing her words, Yur nodded his head. With a few of the stronger players eliminated, things would become much easier for him to control.

Velmira was, time and time again, proving her usefulness.

Jisvruul, what of your side?

Master, I have collected thousands of servants and am going through the selection!

Alright, keep me updated.

Yes, Master.

Yur got up from his bed and stepped outside his room.

The war between Freau and Welit was about to escalate—at least based on the information Olive had gathered. With her snooping around the Royal Hall, she was able to pass along valuable intelligence.

"Good morning, Sir Yur." As he walked out, deep in thought, he heard a voice from the side.

Looking over, he saw Xia.

She had moved into his mansion, staying in a nearby room—something Yur had decided himself. Although he claimed it was for her protection, his true goal was to conquer her for the quest.

"Morning." He nodded his head.

With Zul’s help, he was able to say things in a way that would slowly bring him closer to her, which was his goal.

Xia was slightly taken aback by the way he spoke. Though it was just a single word, she could tell it was said with more intention, rather than just casual politeness.

"So, what’s your plan for today?" He asked, stretching his arms.

"Huh?" She was even more surprised by his inquiry. "Nothing yet, I actually wanted to stay indoors today."

Ley was supposed to move into the mansion as well, but that would be at a later point. She was currently with the King for something important.

"That’s good." He nodded. "I plan on exploring the mansion. Want to join me?" Despite the difficulty, he attempted a smile.

"Are you alright?" She looked at him in confusion.

"What do you mean?" He looked at her quizzically. Zul, this is a waste of time.

[Host is welcome to ignore the script, but the quest will become more difficult!]

Yur disliked wasting time with pointless conversations. He just needed her for his goal, but Zul wanted him to engage in small talk.

"I mean, you seem more emotional today. What’s going on?" She asked, surprised by her own bluntness. Is this because I got permission from Dad?

"Oh, that." Yur forced another smile—the most artificial one imaginable.

"I felt a bit bad for how I acted yesterday. So, I’d like to make it up."

"You feel bad?" She was surprised. "About what?"

"For ignoring you when you were being nice." He sighed. "I’m not used to people, so I struggle to understand what to say and when."

"I see." She nodded, remembering the way he ate, which had been even more unnatural than a commoner’s habits.

He’s someone with an unknown background... Maybe he has no background? He probably never met people before. That’s why he doesn’t understand basic interactions.

Coming to this conclusion—which was, to an extent, correct—she began to feel guilty for being upset with him.

"Anyway, would you care to join me?" Yur asked again. Though internally, he found the entire situation a massive waste of time.

I could simply control her and get her to bear children.

"Sure." She nodded, feeling a bit excited to finally talk to Yur.

She found him even more handsome than before.

The two walked down the large staircase. Their rooms were on the second floor, but the mansion’s main attractions were on the first.

Together, they began exploring. Yur took this opportunity to memorize the layout of his mansion.

"So, Sir Yur—"

"Call me Yur. We’re not that different in age." He interrupted.

"Oh." A bit dazed, she nodded. "Yur. Can I ask about your interests?"

"Ask away." He said.

"...Oh, wait, you already did."

He patted his head, trying to fake an awkward expression, just as Zul had instructed in his diagram.

Zul, this is pointless.

There was no reply. Despite his dulled emotions, Yur felt frustrated. He was being forced to act in a way that was unnatural and draining.

"I honestly don’t have many interests. I mostly like learning new things and training."

He copied the sentence exactly as Zul fed it to him.

"What kinds of things do you like to learn?" She asked.

"Currently, I’m intrigued by beasts—their history and strength, especially."

"Really? I know a lot about them, so if you ever need help, you can ask me."

"That would be great." Yur replied.

Zul, I think I’ll do things my way. This is bothersome.

The questions, the forced expressions, the constant effort— It was all irritating.

[Host is advised otherwise!]

[The methods I am using are directly from Mal’s memories! They work!]

I don’t care.

She is just one of many options. If she dies during the ritual, all of this would have been pointless.

Yur did not think of Xia as a person. She was a tool—a means to an end.

Beauty did not interest him.

Desire did not move him.

His body was numb to these things.

He suddenly stopped walking and turned toward Xia.

"I want to tell you something." His expression returned to its dull, emotionless state.

Xia was caught off guard, a bit worried by his sudden change in tone. "Yes?"

"I want you to be my wife."

His words were sudden.

There was no hesitation.

No shift in expression.

They were said flatly, directly—without emotion.

Xia, stunned, suddenly flushed red. She could not comprehend where this was coming from. "W-what do you mean?"

"It’s exactly as I said." He remained calm. "I wanted to try and woo you, but I’ll be honest—I don’t know how. I’d rather just be direct."

"I-I see." Her voice trembled. "W-well... I can’t say yes right away."

"Why?" Yur raised an eyebrow.

"I-It’s not a simple decision..." Though her face was flushed, it was out of embarrassment—not deep affection. She felt shy, but she hadn’t fallen head over heels for Yur. This was too much.

"That’s fine." Yur nodded. "Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you make this decision. After all, I want a wife, and I want that person to be you."

"...Why me?" She still couldn’t wrap her head around his sudden proposal.

"You’re beautiful, and I like your calm personality."

Lies.

But Yur knew this was something someone would say. He had Mal’s memories after all. He could tell what people wanted to hear, even if he didn’t care.

"The mother of my children should be like you."

"M-Mother... children?" She felt her head spinning. Yur walked over and patted her head. Something he had seen Mal do countless times with his wives.

"Take your time."

With a subtle smile—one that barely formed—he turned and walked away.

Quin, I’ve set the seed. Help me get closer to her. Set up situations.

As one of his kin, she was able to converse with him in a way others could not.

Yes.
