Chapter 122: Travelling; Humans vs Demons

Yur glanced around, observing the numerous Glythari gathering around him.

"To think that despite their numbers, they’re mostly identical?" He sighed in frustration. "Zul, keep a tab on how many I’ve collected for both rituals."

[Rank 4 - Unique Glythari Collected: 24/999]

[Rank 5 - Unique Glythari Collected: 0/9999]

[24/10998]

The unfortunate reality was that Glythari couldn’t be stacked. He needed nearly eleven thousand unique Glythari, a daunting task without any leads on how or where to find them.

"Help me map the areas I’ve explored and mark any landmarks clearly," Yur instructed. This new realm was brimming with danger and uncertainty.

He needed caution above all. Reflecting on his past actions, Yur realized his impatience had repeatedly put him at risk. Within him, an urge constantly pushed him forward, as though racing against an unseen timer. Whether innate or externally influenced, he couldn’t be sure—but he resolved to monitor it closely.

Planning. Patience. That is key. Yur thought, instructing Zul, "Notify me immediately if I show signs of impatience or reckless impulses."

[Noted!]

Yur nodded, though a lingering discomfort remained. The whispers in his mind persisted, gnawing at his patience. Luckily, they were still faint murmurs—for now.

Shaking off the distractions, he resumed his blind hunt for Glythari, uncertain of what to do beyond simply moving forward. Gradually, his wings grew more accustomed to Glythoria’s oppressive gravity, allowing smoother flights.

Occasionally, he’d land on small islands to rest and search for new Glythari. Disappointingly, his count remained unchanged at twenty-four.

"Zul, start a timer and synchronize it with Zulmasharr’s time," Yur requested, aware he’d lost track of any proper time measurement here. Soon, a small clock appeared in the upper right corner of his vision, alongside the Glythari collection counter.

Within a realm shrouded in darkness and pierced by arcs of black lightning, two figures faced each other in quiet discussion.

"How goes your search?" the Black Lord asked calmly, his voice deep and authoritative.

"Master, I’ve infiltrated the Demon King’s region and successfully eliminated him," Damon reported indifferently. "I also managed to advance to Ethereal Convergence, but..." A subtle frown formed on his face.

"What troubles you?" The Black Lord’s expression sharpened with curiosity. Normally, this news would be cause for celebration—he knew Damon was his most gifted successor, perfectly suited to such dangerous tasks.

"When the Demon King died, his body was suddenly swallowed, not by space exactly, but by something resembling a gigantic mouth appearing from nowhere." Damon’s frown deepened. "During my years of infiltration, I encountered several Rakshar demons and even approached territories governed by Demon Lords and Gods, yet I’ve never seen anything like it."

The Black Lord’s expression grew somber as he rubbed his chin thoughtfully. He marveled inwardly at Damon’s ever-growing strength and determination. Driven by vengeance and hatred towards demons, Damon had become unstoppable, even Rakshar demons, feared overlords of Zulmasharr’s surface, fell easily before him.

"Avoid venturing into Zulmasharr’s deeper regions," the Black Lord warned firmly. "Those territories hold demons far beyond your current capability."

"I suspect the mastermind behind the demonic cult originates from those depths," Damon explained. "I’ve tracked Demon Prince Frayata’s activities back there."

"As expected." Sighing heavily, the Black Lord took a sip from his tea. "Listen carefully. We’re planning a major invasion of Zulmasharr’s surface through the Northern Continent soon. I need you to join forces with the remaining successors."

"What?" Damon’s frown deepened further. "You want me to cooperate with the other successors?"

"It is the Guardian’s direct command," the Black Lord replied indifferently. "Many successors have perished at the hands of Rakshar and stronger demons, but even so, your group represents humanity’s best among the younger generation. Your combined strength is necessary for the Northern War."

"What about the demonic cultivators?" Damon pressed, unwilling to let go of his ongoing investigation.

"That matter will still be pursued—by me personally," the Black Lord declared resolutely, suddenly releasing an aura so immense that Damon felt it pressing down on him like a mountain.

Afloria’s Lords were supreme existences standing atop the world, and the Black Lord was among their most powerful. Even Damon couldn’t fathom his true strength yet.

"You’re personally intervening, Master?" Damon asked, barely managing to speak under the oppressive pressure.

"Yes. I’ll enter Zulmasharr’s deeper regions myself to investigate," the Black Lord affirmed decisively.

"What about the treaty?" Damon asked, shock clear in his voice.

"The Guardian has nullified the treaty," the Black Lord said grimly. "We’re declaring an all-out war against the demons."

"All-out war?" Damon felt a chill run down his spine. Such a declaration could spiral into chaos far beyond imagination. If Lords took direct action, Zulmasharr’s hidden rulers—the ancient, powerful demons lurking below—would be forced to act.

The first war between demons and humans had devastated entire continents, nearly leading Afloria to ruin.

The Guardian had barely managed to secure peace back then. If war reignited now, survival wasn’t guaranteed.

"Prepare yourself for the Northern War," the Black Lord commanded, waving his hand to dismiss Damon abruptly from his realm.

Damon immediately found himself seated upon a grand throne. Before him lay the grotesque corpses of hundreds of demons he’d slaughtered.

Resting his chin thoughtfully on his knuckle, he muttered softly, "An all-out war? Things are about to become truly dangerous."

Yur spent many more days journeying through Glythoria’s eerily beautiful yet monotonous landscape. Protected by his hovering swarm of Glythari, he safely avoided the colossal creatures inhabiting the sky and islands. Thankfully, these immense beings barely acknowledged him, seeing him as little more than an insect—unworthy of attention.

Even smaller, land-bound creatures seemed indifferent, yet Zul’s urgent warnings reminded Yur of their lethal strength. Navigating carefully, he eventually spotted something remarkable ahead.

An immense island unlike any he’d seen before emerged from the endless void, its colossal base descending into darkness beyond sight.

Its sheer size dwarfed even the enormous whale-like creatures floating nearby—an utterly terrifying realization, considering those leviathans were already larger than anything Yur had witnessed before, even surpassing continents and stars seen in Mal’s memories.

At the island’s center stood a single enormous mountain, piercing the sky and dominating the horizon.

This solitary peak wasn’t part of a range; instead, it stood alone, surrounded by dense forests.

"Is that... a volcano?" Yur murmured, noting its distinctive flat peak reminiscent of volcanic calderas. Curious yet cautious, he flew closer to investigate.

Suddenly, an overwhelming force pressed down upon him without warning.

[Warning! Warning!]

[Gravity increasing by a hundredfold!]

Caught off guard, Yur plummeted instantly, hurtling toward the island below at terrifying speed. Blood erupted from his mouth under the crushing pressure.

Desperately, he struggled to flap his wings and regain control, but the intense gravity rendered movement nearly impossible.

"Shit!" he cursed, managing only to slightly adjust his falling angle.

With a thunderous roar, Yur slammed into the earth, the ground exploding into fragments around him.

BOOOOOM!

Dust and debris filled the air, enveloping him completely.
