Chapter 47: Not For Long

Chapter 47: Not For Long

If Dante Perez had any regret in his entire life, it had to be ever having a hand in Raven’s assault.

He had been hearing the news of Raven’s attacks on Lara. At first, he thought she was silly and wouldn’t get anywhere with her revenge, but that morning, he had woken up to take his breakfast.

The news of Lara Brant’s... or as he knew her Hopkins’... death had shattered him to the bone. He hadn’t expected her to take her revenge that far. But he wasn’t scared at the time. He had faith in the FBI and the police that she would be caught.

But weeks passed, and still no news. It was just yesterday that he heard of the death of Larry Hopkins. It was reported that Larry Hopkins had committed suicide in his rented apartment but something told him it wasn’t.

He knew Raven had a hand in his death, one way or another. He knew that he was in trouble and that she was coming for him too, sooner or later.

But she came sooner, rather than later. The call was to notify him he was the next on Raven’s list.

Why can’t these fucking FBI just catch this girl?!! Is she a fucking ghost or what? It’s just one girl! One girl! Why is she so hard to capture?

And he was just at the peak of his career. If there were no problems, he’d voted as the governor of Chicago, but now... he wasn’t so sure. Why now? Why now?

Will she murder him the way she had murdered the other two? He had heard she was the master of disguise. She disguised herself as a maid and infiltrated Lara’s home and she also disguised herself and infiltrated Larry’s home. Will she do the same to him?

He’d hire as many bodyguards as possible and he’d make sure that she never throws a spanner in his works.

Nevertheless, he tried to reason with her. Maybe, he can talk some sense into her or offer her some money for her to leave him alone.

"Hey... uh... Raven." He said nervously, "Are you still there?"

"Absolutely. You want to beg don’t you?" Raven asked through the intercom.

"Give me that, and get out of the car." He fired at the bodyguards and the driver.

The car pulled up in a curb and everyone got out to give him some privacy.

"Why don’t we talk Raven?" He said, silently praying she’d just agree to the sea he was about to offer.

"Talk away, Mr Governor. I’m all ears." Raven taunted while Dante frowned. He knew exactly what she was doing... getting under his skin.

"Um... okay, let’s do this." Dante said, "Why don’t we do this face-to-face? Let’s meet, okay? We can talk this out. Okay?"

"There’s nothing to talk about Mr Governor..."

"Stop calling me that, you bitch!" Dante yelled frustratedly, then realized his mistake, he rubbed his forehead in annoyance, shutting his eyes. "I’m sorry. I’m so sorry."

"Why are you getting mad?" Raven asked, "Aren’t you running for governor? You literally just finished your campaign. Then why are you upset when I call you Mr Governor?"

"I said I’m sorry, let’s meet and talk, okay?" He said desperately, "Please."

"Well, look at you. Begging. Scared shitless." Raven said, amused. "I begged you guys to leave me the fuck alone. But you guys refused. Now tell me why I have to agree to your plea. Just give me one reason."

Dante was fast getting frustrated with this bullshit! Fuck Raven! Fuck her vengeance!

"You think I’m like the Hopkins?" He asked through gritted teeth, "No, I’m not like them. I have eyes everywhere. I can find you matter where you are."

"Reeeaaalllyy?" Her voice dripped with amused sarcasm. "I’m you’re better than the FBI then. Listen, Dante, you can’t find me; I’m a fucking ghost. Like I used to tell a certain dead person... I’m everywhere and nowhere."

"Coming for me will be the worst mistake you’ll ever make." Dante snarled.

Raven sniggered, "Well, this will be fun. What will be more exciting than seeing a well-respected politician being ridiculed? I look forward to your downfall. I was just calling to let you know that you’re next. And now you know. Be expecting me, our charming Mr Governor. Great your wife and kids for me."

Damn it!

Dante angrily crushed the intercom with his bare hands.

Fuck!

Panic was about to creep up but he refused it. No, he was Dante Perez, the son of Marcus Perez. He never fears!

If Raven thinks she’ll defeat him so easily, then she has another think coming

!

He rolled down the glass and ordered the man outside to come in.

"Take me home, now!" He barked.

"Yes, sir."

The elevator dinged open and Raven walked down the hallway to the door.

She paused and heaved a deep breath. Ever since he began seeing Adam as a man, it has been hard for her to be in the same place with him.

Like, why does he have to be suddenly so hot and manly?

She heaved another deep breath, typed in the passcode, and then walked in.

She found Adam in the kitchen preparing lunch. Gosh, he looks so hot in that apron! Like a husband material!

Raven was aware of Adam’s feelings for her even though he never confessed and she also was aware of her own feelings even though she refused to admit it. But now wasn’t the time for romance.

They had to finish the bad guys off before anything romantic took place.

Adam noticed he wasn’t alone, so he turned.

"Hey, you’re back." He said, jolting Raven back to reality.

"Yes, I’m back," Raven said, heading into the kitchen.

"I watched his campaign on TV. Man, he’s really good." Adam admitted, "He has a lot of followers. I’m sure he might win this election."

Raven smirked, "Not for long. We’ll see how long his followers continue following him, blindly." She said icily.

"Man, sometimes I look at you and think, wow!" Adam blurted out even before he knew what.

Raven’s heart jolted. "What?"
