Race With a Heart
Chapter 59: Dreams For Today

Chapter 59: Dreams For Today

"There is something in what you said," admitted Martin.

Women were by nature softer than men, both physically and emotionally. True, with some problems they are much better than man (he remembered his mother and sister, who could be hard as a rock), but others were immediately given to men to solve. In fact, most of the women he knew were physically weaker and couldn’t cope with the testosterone of men. Martin may have been objectively weaker than many men, and some people pointed to his good nature as non-masculine, but he was a man nonetheless, and there was no denying that. If Steve had treated Ami or Heather the way he treated him, the girls would probably have drowned in tears. Martin, however, was not so weak. He might have been crying for a moment in shame of humiliation, but he gritted his teeth and took matters into his own hands. It is true that he was a little afraid to do it, but he took the initiative. He was a guy after all. It wasn’t easy for him, but his stubbornness was starting to break Steve’s resistance. As a guy he understood the other guy easier and Paxton could feel more at ease with him than with a woman and allow himself more.

Martin had no idea if the women were really from Venus and the men were from Mars, but they were definitely very different. For example, no woman worked as a mechanic in their stable, not because she was not accepted, but because she had not even applied for a place.

"We both love racing cars and racing," he admitted. "But your guy has nothing to do with racing, right? How is he?"

Jack smiled as if he were just waiting to show off his sweetheart.

"Like a mix of Indiana Jones, James Bond and Harry Potter."

"Wow!" Martin was honestly impressed. He tried to imagine beloved one of his friend. "Such people really exist?"

"Kevin has a really beautiful, alluring, adventurous mind like Indiana Jones ..."

"Yes, you said he teaches at the college," interjected Martin.

"He is also a police consultant and his body is springy like an agent of Her Majesty’s."

"Does he also advise the police?"

"He’s a criminal psychologist after all. He does not consider himself a profiler, but does occasionally make supportive psychological profiles. He also works with crime victims. "

Jack’s boyfriend was more and more impressive in Martin’s eyes. Jack was genuinely lucky to meet someone like that, especially since he gave the impression that he truly loved him and that he was loved.

Martin was not jealous, however. Kevin may have been well educated and in a prestigious position, and was a combination of Indiana Jones and James Bond in general, but Martin had someone much better. Although his guy was a cross between a bully, a grim and someone with some anti-social phobia, he was the best driver in the world and had the most beautiful but wounded heart.

"And Harry Potter?" he asked curiously.

"Sex with him is like magic."

Martin laughed. He had never expected in his life to hear a similar reference to Harry Potter.

"Martin, if you had the chance, would you come back to us? To our stable? " Jack asked as the boy finally mastered his laugh.

"I don’t know," he admitted frankly. "I would like to go back, even if Don is there. If he tries anything again, I’ll just punch him. I love Fergus’ Stables and you guys, but I feel like I’m needed here. Maybe I think too highly of myself, but you’ve seen who works here. I have no idea how they made ends meet so far. Teddy needs surgery, but he couldn’t leave the garage and the boys alone. For Sid, this place is more home than his own home. Dave would be fine, but for him, this auto repair shop is also more than a workplace. Maybe I’m earning less here and I really miss you guys, but now I’m needed more here. Besides, I also like this place very much. "

"All you," Lambert smiled and ruffled Martin’s hair. It was a warm gesture from the older brother, but the boy felt strangely uncomfortable.

"Leave it," he asked. "This hair is to be ruffled for another."

Jack laughed, ruffled Martin again, this time with more enthusiasm, and announced.

"It was the last time. I don’t want Steve messing with both my hands. "

The client was happy that Martin managed to keep his word and thanks to him she would be able to go on a business trip without any problems. Teddy was in a good mood, too, and as the boys discussed a wonderful meeting with Jack Lambert among themselves, he began to introduce Martin to the secrets of managing an auto repair shop.

"Teddy, you said the surgery wasn’t major. Can you tell what’s wrong with you? I don’t want to be nosy ... "

"Glaucoma" condemned his eye. "Glasses are of no use here, and it’s better to see than to be blind."

"Sure!" exclaimed Martin genuinely delighted. Now I don’t even have to worry about you anymore. I know a lot of people who have had these operations. They were all successful! "

"Really?" Teddy smiled.

"Of course! Advance me on the date and I’ll take you to the hospital. Of course, I’ll pick you up too. You will have vision problems for a few days, right? "

"Yes," Teddy admitted. "The doctor told me about it."

"Surely he also told you to save yourself for a few days. I promise that the car repair shop will be safe during this time. Unless..."

Martin remembered yesterday’s incident. Though he thought hard, he was unable to think of a way by which he could keep the auto repair shop safe from repeating those events. He could only put a lot of bars on the windows and doors and keep them closed all the time, but that would hurt the workshop itself, which was, after all, a place of service open to people.

"That man yesterday is Steve Paxton, right?" Teddy snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Yes. Oh my, sorry, I forgot to formally introduce you! "

"Do not worry. There were exceptional circumstances yesterday. Yesterday Paxton visited you, today Lambert did. You must be very popular at your former job. Well liked. Do you want to go back there? "

"Why is everyone asking me this today?" Martin wondered aloud. "Yes, I do, someday but not now."

"Why not now?"

Martin looked thoughtful.

He could work with Steve. Sometimes it was wonderful between them, sometimes awkward, but that never affected his work. Was Don Alston the problem? No, Alston acted like the worst asshole, but Martin dealt with him hot and Jack made sure that there would be no problems afterwards, too, so in fact, although Martin did not really like Don, he could work with him. So theoretically, if the stable employed new mechanics, he could apply.

But Martin looked around at this little car repair shop, where he worked on small and low-end cars, where the equipment was outdated, but where he could learn a lot more things he didn’t know.

"I think I’ve found a newer, more interesting challenge for myself."

Don Alston definitely went overboard that night. He got so drunk that the lost it around the time he got a new girl on his lap in a strip bar. He couldn’t even remember her name, though it didn’t matter to him anyway. It was important to him that he had a huge hangover.

He woke up in the cheap motel alone, though it was clear he had company that night. He was a little surprised that the cash had not disappeared from his wallet. Probably because if the girl had robbed him, Don would have destroyed the bar where she works and her. Whores should also have their dignity and professional ethics and not steal from drunk customers. It’s not like he took her off the street.

Completely stale Alston had moved out of this motel. Perhaps Heather would give him a fuss, but he wasn’t really interested in her anger. He didn’t love this girl. He only picked her up because she was Martin’s girlfriend. Now that Martin had changed his interests enough to stop missing Heather anymore, she was losing importance to Don. Besides, his own preferences began to change as well, and the young woman with large breasts and wide hips was not so much attracted to him as she used to be.

Surprisingly for himself, Alston found more interest in less feminine shapes.

It wasn’t pleasant coming home. The severe hangover only increased the unpleasant feelings that led Don to drink. This time Alston did not drink for joy to see his buddies, he met with his buddies to drink.

"Are you okay? Don? I was so worried! Why didn’t you answer the phone? " Heather’s concern attacked him from the doorway.

"I was drinking with the buddies," he explained.

"Uh, I can smell it" the girl scowled in disgust, which Don didn’t like. Did she have to pretend to be such a prude when she herself could drink and dance on the table?

"I’m going to take a shower," he told her.

"I will go with you!" offered Heather.

"No need," Alston growled. On another day he might have taken her offer, but now, after spending a night with a whore, he didn’t want a woman.

His tone wasn’t aggressive, but cold enough for the girl to realize she was pushed away at that moment. It wasn’t the first time in the last few days that she wished she hadn’t left Martin, the boy who had always treated her with respect and kindness.
