Race With a Heart -
Chapter 197: Easy Prey
Chapter 197: Easy Prey
"Wow! I really envy you! I would also like to meet one of them."
"Really?" Moore was surprised. "You, who became the star of the Shakespearean theater, the most beautiful Ophelia, the most romantic Julia and Lady Macbeth, who is ruled by blood, pierces the viewer’s heart through?"
"Don’t quote art critics here! Sometimes I get so immersed in female roles that I forget how men think. The amount of testosterone that race drivers have would do me good," the young actor sighed.
Kevin looked at his face and he saw some kind of femininity in it. The way he arranged his lips, how he moved his eyes... Arthur’s gestures and even the way he walked had a certain feminine charm to it. He did not act at this party, he was himself - a man - and yet the woman he played on stage during rehearsals and performances lived somewhere in him to such an extent that she dominated the man there.
Meanwhile, the drivers of the Fergus Stables, while all as one were currently in a relationship with men, no matter which role they took in the relationship, were actually dripping with testosterone. Even if they were cute and sweet, even if they stuck their ass in front of their lover, they were so masculine that they could actually be envied or... irritated with them.
"Wait a minute, but isn’t your interest in racing," Floyd asked, "not a more... personal nature? Don’t be offended, but you look like you are particularly committed to this race, a little more than a regular fan."
"You have a pretty good intuition," praised Kevin. "You’re right. Jack Lambert is my boyfriend."
He said it! He just told the world (or at least one friend) that he was dating Jack Lambert and thus confessed that he was gay!
Kevin’s heart was beating faster, a little uneasily, but the man felt quite comfortable with the fact that he had made his first, almost public, confession that he was dating a man.
"Kevin, really? I didn’t know you were playing in our league."
"I guess it was a matter of meeting the right man," he announced. "Before I met him, I didn’t think about it at all."
"I really don’t know if you surprised me more by dating a guy or by the fact that you are dating THIS guy. Anyway, congratulations and envy. Seriously. Lambert is a great driver and a sexy cookie."
Kevin has just discovered a new, completely unknown pleasure when someone envies your partner. Jack was undoubtedly very handsome, masculine and sexy, and always ranked very high in all kinds of plebiscites of athletes and handsome men. Until now, however, when someone in front of Kevin talked about Lambert, he had never done it in such a naturally friendly and intimate way. After all, a friend’s boyfriend is more than a complete stranger from the headlines.
Moore and Floyd also met because Arthur was Kevin’s friend’s boyfriend for a while. It was about four years ago before Floyd left to pursue a career at the best Shakespearean theater in the country. Kevin until now did not know if the relationship of these men broke up because of this departure or if Arthur left because his relationship had collapsed. At any rate, the two events coincided in time, and no one seemed to be suffering too much from it.
"Will you ever tell me how it happened that you became a couple?" Floyd asked. "Or better yet, will you introduce me to Jack Lambert? I really want to meet him."
"It depends if you promise not to try to steal him from me."
Arthur laughed and did so dangerously flirtatiously.
"Be calm, I won’t touch your boyfriend unless he wants to. But I wouldn’t say no to you if you would invite me to a private meeting. I’ve always found you very attractive." Floyd touched Kevin’s arm gently and almost sensually. Moore was not disgusted, let alone excited, but it was a strange experience for him to know that a man other than Jack was flirting with him.
"You flatter me," he replied with a smile, but in order not to send any encouraging signals, he gently removed Arthur’s hand from his shoulder. "I belong to the monogamous faction."
"Oh, I’m sorry. But I must admit, now I wish I had tried my luck with you. Maybe I could do it too. But you’ve always been this, inaccessible. "
"I still am. How long will you be in town? Maybe I can actually introduce Jack to you."
"Lovely! I’ll be here a month! We have performances contracted for a month, then we keep going. You don’t even know how glad I am to run into you at this party!"
Kevin was happy too. He remembered Arthur as a nice young artist, maybe a little too artistic and sometimes overly exalted, but Arthur was very young at the time and was influenced by some avant-garde artistic group. In fact, however, he was a nice boy, very determined to achieve his dream and become a real star of the scene. Moore did not know who advised him to specialize in female acting, but apparently it was an excellent suggestion, as Arthur Floyd was already regarded as one of the theater’s finest actors. It was good to see how far Arthur had come in those four years. His hard work and persistence definitely paid off.
The men returned to the party because they had spent too much time away from the other guests anyway. Kevin, who had spoken to Arthur for the first time in four years, would occasionally glance his way with a friendly smile. He hoped the actor wouldn’t read this as any erotic suggestion, after all Moore made it clear that he was monogamous because it was really good to meet a friend from years ago and talk to him freely.
Kevin left the party a few more times to see what was going on on the track, and he did it quite often. Today he really missed Jack very much.
***
Charity events organized by the Moore Foundation have always attracted the greatest personalities of the world of politics, economy and culture. Arthur Floyd was lucky to be invited. It happened not because he was already a famous theater star, but because he came from this city and for a moment was even under the care of the foundation.
It was a brief moment that Arthur did not fondly recall. A difficult childhood was said to be something an artist can brag about, but Floyd did not feel that way. A difficult childhood was a painful memory he was ashamed of. He did not understand why an artist should be proud of being brought up in a poor home? Is it because the artist should be poor? Who, then, were the stars of the stage and the cinema who earned more in a week than his parents had spent on Arthur before he reached the age of majority?
Others may take pride in their poverty past, but Floyd preferred to focus on securing a rich future for himself. Very rich. And he had a trait that made his way a little easier than that of others - he was a man who could be more feminine than many women.
It was an extraordinary talent that attracted the recognition of fans of Shakespearean theater. His troupe was lucky that Arthur decided to perform with them because his roles always garnered the best reviews. Arthur Floyd himself collects something more - admirers. They weren’t immature fans, oh no, they were serious admirers who had the financial and influence resources and were often able to do a lot for Arthur just to get one kind smile of him.
For Floyd, each party was therefore an opportunity to win admirers in new high circles, and in this city no one mattered more than the Moore family. So Arthur had no hesitation in exerting his spell, glad that he would again get some men fascinated by him. Of course, the biggest prize will be one of Moore, father or son.
After talking with Kevin, the young actor felt a great deal of satisfaction. After a few minutes of flashing through the crowd, Arthur stepped aside and wrote a text message:
’The contact has been established. Everything according to the plan.’
He sent the message and looked for Kevin. Their eyes met and Arthur gave him one of his most beautiful friendly smiles.
Kevin Moore turned out to be easier than expected.
