Race With a Heart -
Chapter 143: It’s Not a Comeback, It’s a Step Further
Chapter 143: It’s Not a Comeback, It’s a Step Further
Martin shook Don Alston’s hand without much hesitation. It is true that somewhere deep in his heart he felt a bit of disgust, but he had already decided to forgive Don for what he wanted to do to him. People sometimes do things without really bad intentions, they just ... don’t think rationally at the moment.
Martin and Don will have to work together as colleagues for a while. They will not avoid common conversations and just plain friendly cooperation. They will either reset their accounts or be hostile towards each other, raising questions and doubts among colleagues. And Martin didn’t want to explain anything to anyone.
They agreed with Steve that they would not announce to the world that they were a couple, but if anyone asked, they would not deny it. They weren’t ashamed of being together and figured they could deal with possible media hype (probably), but Dave’s rejection of their relationship was unpleasant and they both had to take time to get used to this type of reaction.
Just over twenty people worked in the stable. It was impossible for each of them to be favorable to the homosexual relationship between Martin and Steve. It is enough for one person to have problems with this and unpleasant rumors will start. Some will be basic, others will not, but most of them will be somewhat malicious and hostile and will put a bad atmosphere in the stable. And that was really not needed at that point.
The attack on Steve and, consequently, his temporary exclusion from the competition was a serious problem for the Fergus Stables. Crashing his car was a problem too. If they don’t play it well, they will say goodbye not only to first place but to the top three. The stable workers had to do their best to survive the toughest times and didn’t need the distraction at all due to the rumors of an affair between the two drivers.
Martin was returning to the stables, and while he knew perfectly well it was on Paxton’s recommendation, some would say he was hired by the bed. Of course, the reality was more complicated, but the rumor was more interesting. Martin will endure such talk, of course, but knowing Steve, the driver will be furious and either get into a fight or - and that was even worse in Martin’s eyes - Paxton would suppress his emotions, which would not have a good effect on his health. .
For Martin, the priorities were clear and obvious - Steve came first. His physical health and mental comfort were paramount. Therefore, Martin knew that he had to do everything he could to avoid situations that would stress Paxton. So he had to avoid a situation in which he himself would be the target of attacks, even verbal ones, so that Steve would not feel obliged to defend him. The shaking of the hand of the man who had attacked him was therefore a small sacrifice in relation to the great good he could receive through it.
Besides, Don apologized and looked genuinely contrite. And he saved Paxton’s life. If Martin had held a grudge against him for that incident, which had done him virtually no harm, he would have proved terribly petty.
Martin had already spoken to Karl, who happily shook his hand and asked Martin to wait a moment to be officially introduced to the crew. Of course, everyone knew him here, but as a mechanic, meanwhile, the boy had advanced up the rank and now, as a driver, he should be formally introduced. Normally Old Fergus would have done it, but the man was overseas when the Steve situation happened and had not yet returned.
The new driver waited politely for everyone to come to work. He could do it in Walton’s office, although this one was busy wrestling with the media, but chose to go outside. This place had so many great memories that came alive in Martin as soon as he looked at a building or a tree. And all those memories had to do with Steve.
Don Alston was gone and had not left a bad, unpleasant aura behind. Maybe that incident was a madness that surprised even him? Don was never inclined towards men and was known to be very fond of women. He succumbed to the temptation of the moment, he acted like the last idiot, but for sure when he came to his senses he was terribly ashamed and regretted what he had done.
On the other hand, Martin also never thought erotically about any guy, and it took the shock of Steve Paxton to point him in this direction.
Martin’s gaze unknowingly wandered to the most beautiful place in the entire area. Well, the place itself was completely ordinary - the wall of the building, a few bushes and grass, but that was where Steve Paxton stood on Martin’s first day of work, smoking another cigarette and blowing puffs of gray smoke. His eyesight was absent, and his nonchalant figure leaned against the wall gave him some romantic charm. It was then that Martin’s heart beat faster for the first time ...
"You rascal!" Suddenly there was a joyful, enthusiastic voice, at the sound of which the scared Martin jumped. "Why didn’t you tell me you agreed?" asked Jack Lambert, grinning his teeth and embracing the surprised Martin lifted him up. Then he set him down on the ground and ruffled his hair with an old familiar gesture of older brother. "Oh, sorry, I wasn’t supposed to do that."
"It’s all right," Martin waved his hand. This warm welcome from Jack filled his heart with joy. "You know, I didn’t know I missed this place so much until I came back," he announced, smiling perhaps just as widely as his older friend.
Only a few weeks had passed, and he had spent little more time in the stable itself, but he had grown into this place more than he had thought. It was probably so because he lived the most beautiful days of his life here.
A few of the uglier ones were also found. Because of them, there were tears of shame, regret and uncertainty, but he did not regret any time spent here. Whether they were happy or sad, they got him to where he was - that is, to his relationship with Steve.
This place was full of memories of the time when feelings were awakened in Martin through the body.
"Can you handle this place," Jack asked thoughtfully.
"Of course!" Martin enthusiastically assured. Then curiously, he asked, "Why would I not handle it?"
"So many memories," Lambert shook his head. "You can remember all the time, ’ah, Steve did it to me here, and here he did it to me ...’."
Martin, irritated, cut him off with a nudge on the elbow.
"Of course I can do it," firmly assured, but he wasn’t sure because the memories alone made his face flush and his body flamed. That was when Martin realized how much he wanted to go back to those times Steve had taken him in the hallway ...
No, don’t come back. Yes, the moments when he discovered what wonderful pleasure a man’s body can give was an absolutely irreplaceable experience, but the pleasure of the body did not go hand in hand with the pleasure of the heart. So Martin wanted not to return to what was, but to go a step further, that is to repeat the physical passions of those days, supplementing them with present feelings.
If Steve took him now, firmly, in the hallway, from behind and in his ear, he would whisper ’I love you’ ...
Jack shook his head with a smile of pity.
"I don’t know if it’s good that you came back here. If you are so distracted by your erotic fantasies ... "
"Shut up!" Martin ordered irritated and all red in the face. "As if you never fantasized," he added grimly.
"I don’t have to," Jack grinned smugly. "My fantasies are reality!"
It was at this point that Martin realized Lambert’s step was a little less sure than ever. It’s like... Jack doesn’t...? Is Kevin...?
"Did Kevin come in, you know ...?" Martin asked before he realized how out of place his question was.
"Er, nooooo ..." Jack waved his hand. "But when I have such an insatiable partner, I get out of bed as tired as after a race. Or more. You know what I mean, right? "
"Not really ..." Martin replied softly. "You know that I am the representative of the other party ..."
Lambert put a hand on his shoulder.
"Believe me, no matter what side you are on. If you love with passion, your body will scream with delight and pain. You hear it from an experienced person" Jack nodded.
As intriguing as Lambert’s confession was, Martin was more likely to identify with Kevin and sympathized with him. If Jack felt this way today, how did poor Professor Moore feel? Martin sincerely hoped he wasn’t too battered.
