Chapter 96: Fuck! Why Am I Surrounded by a Barrage of Questions?
Sharon’s POV—
I never thought in my entire life that I will meet a woman like Erica. Although her spirit vanished entirely from the face of the earth, there was not a single line of sadness on her face. To be honest, she was kind of anticipating it. Many would say she is a hopeless romantic woman but I don’t think so. Her love was true. She really loved Klurench with all her heart. And the same could be said for him. They really loved each other to the point of sacrificing each other. Not many lovers who claim that their love is true, possess this kind of strength. Her love for him, and his love for her, was beyond our comprehension.
Although, her last words have created some impact on me as well. She called me her only friend, didn’t she? Can relationships be cultivated this quickly? Her words made me a bit surprised. While her words were quite spontaneous for me, I don’t dislike it. In a way, she is the first person in this world to regard me as her ’friend.’ Honestly, I don’t dislike this. I don’t have anyone to call someone as my friend in this world. Kaerin and Maria can’t be considered as my friends.
So, Erica is my first friend in this world. The corners of my mouth raised subconsciously.
Now, let’s come back to the main topic. Klurench said that deities could be killed in two ways. First method is using the weapons, and the second one was to erase their proof of presence. That’s why they created humans and cultivated their relationship with them.
Devotion was the weapon used by both humans and deities.
Humans fulfilled their desires with the help of it, and the gods benefitted from it. So, with each interaction... the gods enhanced themselves. They increased their strength by this. They knew humans’ hunger was boundless like an insatiable monster. Yet, they fed them for their own selfish reasons. It won’t be an exaggeration if I say, a flawed master always tries to use a flawed servant in a tough situation. Due to their mutual defectiveness, they tend to make their situation worse. A relationship where both the parties will get hurt in the end.
That’s what the relationship of gods and humans is. In the end, both of them got annihilated.
But this is not entirely right. If humans were eradicated, then where did ’new’ humans come from?
Demons and demi-humans were created after the first batch of humans were erased. Does that mean demons and demi-humans regard themselves as the first creatures to walk on this planet? I don’t think the gods were stupid enough to reveal their ’glorious’ deeds. They would never want to make these new creatures to see them in bad light.
They would definitely be wary of the deities. They eradicated the humans, didn’t they? What if they decided to eradicate them? These questions would hamper their relationship. There would be no devotion because only mental blindness can give birth to it, not fear. Authority is what fear creates. Then again, both of them are the sides of the same coin. Ultimately, they would give similar results.
But demons and demi-humans don’t worship any sort of God. In fact, they are atheists. Did the gods failed to nurture their relationship with them? If so, why? Their objective was to establish a new source of devotion. They did complete the first phase, but in second phase, they failed miserably.
Did demons and demi-humans hate the gods? Or, were they wary of them? Or may be, the gods never established any kind of relationship with them? Did someone hamper their plans?
Perhaps this is the reason of creating the ’second’ batch of humans. This ’new’ human race is atheist as well. Yes, there are churches but they are more of a museum now. But it’s certain that this second batch did worship the gods.
Although, their devotion’s intensity was not as high as the first one. This is why the human race no longer worshiped gods.
The first plan failed and so did the second. In demons and demi-humans’ case, they failed miserably. Yet, in humans’ case, the deities were successful to a specific point. But why did they never cultivate their relationship like the one with the previous batch?
The only plausible answer is... the deities wanted to, but they couldn’t. They were killed off by the ’outsider’ God. But where did this god come from? Did he kill them because he wanted full supremacy? Wait, is this god the one who’s the strongest in this world? The one, who helped the OG protagonist, Kelshin.
No, I can’t be certain. Maybe it’s the god that escaped. The drawing showed that all the gods were killed except one. That specific god escaped the massacre.
So, all-in-all... there are two candidates. One is the ’outsider,’ and the other is, ’insider.’
Fuck! I thought her memories have answered all of my questions. Instead, it only gave birth to countless new questions.
Between the two of them, who is the strongest? Who helped the protagonist?
No, I do the answer of both the questions. It was the ’outsider’ God. He was the one who killed the gods, didn’t he? The ’insider’ God escaped the massacre. Obviously, he was the weaker between them. If he was the strongest, then he would have fought with the ’outsider’ God. Then again, what if he had gained some strength to fight against the ’outsider?’ I can’t ignore this possibility as well.
What about the elves? Erica’s memory never showed about the elven race. Who created them? Did the gods create them as well? Like the humans of the second batch? If not, who created them? All I know that elves vanished after continuously breeding with humans. But why did the mate with them? Did something trouble them? Mating with the humans was a bad decision for them. Yet, they did. The disappearance of their race was not spontaneous like the first batch of humans. It was a slow and steady process. So, it was possible for them to know about it and still, they did. A very perplexing decision indeed.
No, I have overlooked a possibility. What if they knew that their race is beyond saving? Hence, they used this method to somehow carry their genes forward. The Charatshore family is their only progeny. This means all the others have died. But why? Were they killed? Or, they died naturally? Either of fact establishes one thing. The Charatshores are a group of resilient people. To carry their family forward and forward, by having offsprings and maintaining their power proves their strength. Heck, they even defeated the second strongest creature in this world.
In the last scene of Erica’s memory, Klurench was afraid of something. He knew something or, someone was going to kill them both. So, to protect her, he sacrificed himself. I am sure the gods were not the one who he felt threatened from? It was the ’outsider.’
The gods would never come to the forest, where they god-killing weapons are found.
But I am not sure about the ’outsider.’ There is another player in this game. The human who killed a god and started the entire drama. He stole a god-killing weapon, didn’t he? Certainly, he could kill Klurench.
That man wanted revenge from gods. But what did the gods do to attract such a severe hatred from him? It was obvious that he wanted to eradicate the gods. Although, the ’outsider’ fulfilled his wish. But what happened between the man and the deities?
For a single man, the deities killed the entire first batch of humans. I am certain that he doesn’t care. By this, I can clearly gauge his desire for revenge is not a small one. His desire for revenge was too damn strong. Then again, I am sure he is long dead by now. In the end, he is a human, isn’t he? A ’god-killer’ human.
I sighed loudly. The more I want to go in, the more I get jumbled up in these questions. There are too many questions. But I don’t have answers. Not even a single one. All I have done is assuming. My speculations are always spot on, though sometimes they don’t land perfectly.
Suddenly, I remembered Erica’s words. She gave me her pendant as a gift, didn’t she? I looked at the big rock which she had pointed before her spirit vanished, and walked towards it.
Behind it, I found the box... the one given by Klurench.
Opening the box, I found a beautiful pendant in it. It was a crystal pendant. A blue crystal was hanging from its chain. The crystal had a very shiny appearance... even more than a normal crystal. Just by holding it, I could feel its power. It had a mysterious aura surrounding it. A shiver ran down my spine when I thought of a possibility. Is it one of the five weapons which can supress or kill a god?
