Chapter 92: Will the Gods Accept Our Relationship?
Sharon’s POV—
"You can understand his drawings. I never expected to see a human who can comprehend his drawings."
Technically, I am not exactly a human. I asked, "So, I am correct?"
The woman nodded her head. She replied, "Yes, you are. But how did you decipher all this on your own?"
I shrugged, "Creativity. I am a very creative person. Also, it wasn’t that hard to decipher your lover’s painting. Then, are you going to answer my questions?"
The woman closed her eyes. "It has been a long time since I have seen a human’s face," she laughed with sad smile, "I am rotting here since forever. Of course, I will answer all your questions. But I think if you hear my tale, you will get all your answers."
"My name is Erica. I was the high priestess of Klurench’s only temple. Back then, deities held a lot of affection for humans. We used to believe in miracles. Belief was the strongest source of power for humans. Without devotion, we, humans couldn’t have sustained our life for a long time."
"You are Sharon, right?" I nodded, "I request you to close your eyes. Let me, show you everything that I know."
"Should I? What if you attack me?"
"Trust me. You need answers, right?" asked Erica. I don’t have any other choice, do I? Besides, she is a ghost. Till now, she is friendly. So, I think maybe taking this risk will cause me any type of harm.
I nodded, "Fine. Show me." Saying that, I closed my eyes.
Slowly, I felt my consciousness fade away. It was as if I was floating away.
Third POV—
Humans were kneeling on the ground, praying to their gods. Their day started and ended with devotion. They were truly in the state of perfect devotion. They believed that their gods were kind in nature, and really cared about them.
Miracles happened daily. Their devotion made it possible.
Gods cured their diseases. If a person prayed with devotion, they could even save themselves from death.
No one starved. Gods never let them starve. Every human’s stomach was full.
If they wanted to be rich, they made you rich. No one was poor. Everyone had a house to live.
Human beings’ strongest weapon was devotion.
The gods threw blessings like giving toys to children, without any tension or proper thought. They always believed that their devotees would never go back on their devotion. They were really close with the human beings.
Klurench was one of the gods who had a very close relationship with humans.
Erica was the high priestess of the Klurench’s temple. She had the highest position after the temple’s pope died. After he died, the position was never filled. It was a sign respect for the deceased pope.
"My love, what are you doing?"
Erica sighed, "I am looking at some papers. Can’t you see? Don’t disturb me?" Her tone was full of helplessness.
Klurench smiled at Erica. His eyes were full of love and indulgence. He pouted, "What are you doing? Tell me, are you angry? Hey! You are my priestess."
Erica put the papers on the table and laughed angrily.
"You are annoying, you know that, don’t you? You are really making me angry. What are you even here for? All you do is to make me angry."
Klurench raised his hands in surrender. He said, "I am sorry. But did you forget that this my temple? You can’t throw me out of my temple. And you can’t throw out your lover, can you? I know, you love me very much to even to throw me out."
"Then don’t test me patience. This day is already very hard for me, and your appearance is making it even more difficult."
"Please tell me. What can I do for you? You are going to be my wife, so you can depend on me. And I am your boss too. So, I should help you to improve your performance."
Erica laughed softly. She shouldn’t have taken out her anger on Klurench. Her work load had made her a bit cranky.
"I am sorry, Klurench."
"No need to be sorry, I know how much work you do. You are my number one devotee, aren’t you? Also, if my future wife is angry, I do think that I can handle it. So, tell me Erica, why are you so tensed?" asked Klurench. His green eyes were full of worry. Being worried for his future wife, was nothing new for him.
Erica sighed, "It’s just that the devotees are a bit worried about the upcoming function. They... I want everything to be perfect."
"Order, isn’t it? You want everything to perfect. Hah, don’t worry. Tell them not to worry as well."
Erica shook her head. "I know. But that’s you, and we are different. Gods have given us too much. We don’t starve to death because of them. Everyone has a place to live for. They have given us enormous wealth. Our devotion is our strongest weapon. Without it, we are nothing. What if one day gods abandon us?" She didn’t know if it was her paranoia or something else, but she didn’t want to anger the gods.
Klurench kneeled down and held Erica’s legs. "Erica, look at me. Do you think that I will be angry with you? With my devotees?"
Erica leaned on the chair and said, "I am not telling about you. Klurench, you are too kind. I love you. And above everything, I trust you. Forget about me, you can’t even hurt any of your devotee. You love them as your own."
Klurench stood up and hugged her. "So, why are you worried? If you are worried about other gods, then don’t be. It’s my temple. Everything is mine."
"But what if other gods tease you? What if your temple becomes a joke? I can’t you bear it."
Klurench smiled, "Is it so? So, my future wife loves me that much? It looks like I am the one who is being blessed by you."
"Don’t push your luck," warned Erica.
"Okay, my love. Don’t be an angry tigress, I might be scared by you."
Erica laughed at his words. She smirked, "Well, you should make it a habit then."
"What habit?"
"Habit to be scared. You are going to deal with this... every single day. So, future husband?"
Klurench smiled goofily. It seemed he liked Erica calling him ’future husband.’ He asked, "My love, what do you want to say?"
Erica smirked, "Be brave. If you are not brave, I might leave you."
His face turned pale. "Y-you a-are j-joking... right?" stuttered Klurench.
"Who knows? Maybe I am serious. Or, maybe I am not. But you should be prepared. Don’t let e find any fault within you." Erica’s tone was full of teasing. She really liked teasing Klurench very much. To see a god so smitten with a mortal woman, and that very woman is her... she was always flabbergasted with his behaviour. Although, he was like a kid.
Klurench patted his chest. His look was full of determination. With a resolved tone, he said, "I will never let you find fault in me. Because I am faultless and so are you. We are a perfect couple, destined to go down in the history. There will be tales depicting our epic love." He truly believed that his promise would come true.
Erica’s face turned red. Her blushing face made Klurench rub her head. "You are always full of yourself. We are a normal couple, and I want my future husband to be normal. So, don’t even think of doing anything."
"Well, if you say so. I can promise about myself but I don’t know about others. You don’t think I can stop others, right? We are going to set the norms," Klurench’s eyes glittered with stars, "Erica, I love you. I love you so much that I can’t even comprehend my love for you. You may say, I am exaggerating... but I am not. I love you, and I will love you till my last breath. Then again, I am a god. And gods are immortal, so... I am as well, right?"
Erica hit Klurench’s arm lightly. "Yeah, I know. Mr. Immortal, can you stop singing your praises?" she grabbed Klurench’s hand, "I love you too. Like yours, my love for you is boundless. My devotion for you is limitless. My day starts with you, and my night ends with you. Every breath of mine holds your name. My body is yours to claim, and my soul is yours to hold."
"Wow, your lines are so good! I don’t know what to say now. Your love makes my love look like an ant in comparison."
Suddenly, Erica lowered her gaze. She asked, "Will the gods accept our relationship?" She was sacred. What if gods didn’t accept their relationship?
Klurench kissed Erica’s lips lightly. Holding her hands, he said, "They will accept," he clicked his tongue in annoyance, "they think that I am fooling around with you. Argh, their behaviour makes me angry. I am not a loose character like them. I love you. No one can stop me from marrying you. Even if I have to fight them, I will. For you, it’s worth it."
