Chapter 71: The Trial of People
Chapter 71: The Trial of People
Third POV—
"Welcome everybody! I am very delighted that you all are here. And to think that you will be here in a short notice... I am ecstatic," Kelshin said in a very pleasant voice. Just by looking at his face, anyone could say he was happy.
A group of men were standing in front of him giving an annoyed look. They were people belonging from both the factions, except Sharon’s faction.
Duke Glimpiseie said, "I am glad that you are happy, Duke Dimortyil. But to have... a few people here... and from both the ’authentic’ factions, I am more tempted to believe you should have something for us."
"Of course! Gentlemen, we are here for something magnificent. It will blow your minds," Kelshin said.
A man with dark blue hair and brown eyes sneered in disgust. He said, "It’s you, Duke. We trust you," he turned towards the Aristocratic Faction, "but how can our faction mingle with ’them?’ I don’t trust them."
"The same goes for us! We don’t trust you."
"Yeah?! How dare you talk to us like that? We are your superiors!"
"No, you are not! You are not our superiors!"
"Do you want to pick a fight to us?"
Kelshin shook his head in exasperation. He knew this would happen. These two pathetic groups were fighting amongst themselves when he was standing right there in front of them. He snapped his fingers and yelled loudly.
"QUIET!!"
Everyone stopped fighting and turned their attention towards him. They closed their mouth shut and lowered their gaze.
"Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen... if we fight with each other, it won’t sit well with us in the long run. We have a common enemy and we all know who ’she’ is," Kelshin said loudly.
Duke Glimpiseie apologized, "I am sorry, Your Grace. It was unbecoming for my faction to be like this... ’unhinged.’ Trust me, we are not a barbaric group of people. Our faction is very supportive of you."
The man, who had started the fight, apologized as well. "I am sorry as well... from me, and my faction’s people. We were kind of... worried about them, to be here. But you are right. Our enemy is same. We need to work together."
Kelshin nodded in affirmation. Now, they were doing what he wanted. That was how it should have gone from the start. But it was alright. Their focus was he needed, and he had got it. Their common goal was to ’remove’ Sharon from her throne. The throne which she never deserved in the first place.
Kelshin clapped his hands. "Uriel, tell the servants to bring some refreshments for our esteemed guests. Remember, they should be of finest quality."
Uriel nodded and went away. Kelshin smiled, "Well, if that’s over... now we should discuss about our purpose... ’my’ purpose. Marquis Waetoul, let’s start with you. What do you think?"
The man, Marquis Waetoul said, "Once again, I am sorry for our insolence," he took a deep breath, "I think we are here for to discuss about something important."
"What important? How much important? Tell us more clearly, Waetoul."
"About how to remove Sharon Charatshore from her throne."
Kelshin nodded and turned towards Duke Glimpiseie. He asked, "What about you? What to do you think?"
Duke Glimpiseie answered, "I think along the same lines as him, Your Grace."
Kelshin caressed his hand over his silky hair. He said, "That’s just one purpose... and I like that you are respecting me as you should."
Duke Glimpiseie shook his head frantically. He stuttered, "I-I am in-inferior... Y-y-your Grace."
"That’s true. You are inferior, Glimpiseie."
Duke Glimpiseie lowered his head even more. It was sign of his submissiveness to Kelshin. Kelshin smirked, "Let’s begin with first objective. I called both the faction’s important members for a reason," his eyes turned sharp, "even now, you lot fought against each other rabid dogs. I don’t like rabid dogs which could bite you. I like loyal dogs, who bares their teeth at their master’s enemies, not at the master... not at me."
Marquis Waetoul said, "We would never bare our teeth at you. Our faction always supported you."
"The same goes for my faction as well," said Duke Glimpiseie.
"I know... but you two, being constantly at each other’s throats is kind of problematic for me. You know it very well that you two factions have a common goal and yet, you fight yourselves. In that process, not only you harm yourselves but also, you harm me. I need you factions to stop that. Stop fighting each other! Focus on the bigger problem. Divert your rage to Sharon. Make her fear you. That she... is not the one who has any control over you. I do."
Duke Glimpiseie said, "If that’s your wish, we will abide by it. Your Grace, from now on, our faction will not fight with their faction."
Marquis Waetoul said, "Your Grace, we accept the true." he turned towards Duke Glimpiseie and extended his hand. He shook it without any hesitation. One by one, the rest of the members of both the factions shook their hands as well.
Laughing loudly, Kelshin said, "Good. You both have made the right choice. From now on, you factions will be work together against Sharon. I hope that I am clear." Everyone nodded in understanding.
Uriel came over with a group of servants, who set up the table and placed the refreshments on it. Alcohol, sweets, meat, fruits, and all other possible food items were placed on the table.
"It seems they have misunderstood the command. Fine then, enjoy the food. Gentlemen, I am proud to say each and every culinary has a wonderful taste to it. You can eat all you want but... after we finish our discussion." Kelshin said with a proud voice. According to him, his chiefs made better quality of food than the imperial ones. He pointed at the wall.
Everyone gazed at the wall in confusion. Why was he showing a wall? A plain and dusty wall, at that. They couldn’t understand that action of his.
Kelshin continued, "Behind that, lies my years of research. And today is the day when I finally share this with you. But before that, I am going to share some important news with you. From this point, my friend, Uriel will say," he turned towards Uriel, "only the news and the details related to it, understood?"
Uriel nodded and said, "Thank you. Your Grace’s benevolence is beyond my comprehension. Gentlemen, it’s a very-very important news. One that could change everything."
Duke Glimpiseie asked, "What is the news?"
"Sharon Charatshore has been captured by the demons." Uriel dropped the bomb like it was nothing. Everyone was so shocked that they had lost their voice. None of them had power to ask ’how’ and ’when’ she was captured.
Getting their reasoning back, they started discussing among themselves. After some minutes of internal discussion, a member of AF asked, "How was she captured?"
"Apparently, she was foolish enough to set her foot into the demon’s territory without any prior backup. The demon queen, who held a grudge against her family line, captured her without any hesitation," said Uriel.
Duke Glimpiseie asked, "What about the palace? Do they know that the emperor has been captured?"
Uriel answered, "I don’t know but I believe... they do know."
Marquis Waetoul asked, "Won’t they do anything about it?"
"They will... they definitely will. But we have to do something. We have to capitalize this situation. We have to turn the tide towards our favour," said Duke Glimpiseie.
Marquis Waetoul nodded. After a moment, he said, "I have a plan."
"That’s great and we will hear about it. But for now, let’s finish what I have started," sneered Uriel.
Duke Glimpiseie said, "Yes, Master Uriel."
Sighing, Uriel said, "I am not going to tell how or when she was captured. What I am going to say is, the demons have planned to torture her until, she drops dead. Although, I am not sure if they would do that or not."
Kelshin said, "Tell them the important part."
Uriel nodded, "Listen. We have a plan. A contingency plan, to be honest. If the emperor somehow returns back, we have a way to condemn her. A way which will ensure that her public image tarnishes properly."
"What way?"
"We will provide the evidence that the emperor has joined hands with the humans’ biggest enemies, the demons. Doing this will not only tarnish her public image but also, will put her in the trial," answered Uriel.
"But how can we put her in trial? She is the emperor! Only she has the power to put someone on trial."
Uriel smiled, "Your Grace is not talking about the ’Imperial Trial.’ He was talking about the ’Trial of People.’ It’s a trial which doesn’t need any closed room, or benches, or rules, or even the ’judge.’ Once she is condemned in their open court, where there are only allegations and no explanations... she is finished. She will fall before their eyes and will be branded as a ’traitor.’ And Your Grace will seize the throne."
