Chapter 63: I Can’t Trust You
Sharon’s POV—
"It’s because I am the owner of this shop," announced Pristine.
I frowned at this fact. Pristine owning a dessert shop? It’s a new thing. Nah, forget it. The fact that she is owning a shop is weirder. Is she trying her hand on business?
I asked, "Do you want to try your hand on business? I am not trying to demotivate you... but you are not Duke Rinkshel. He is an expert in business."
Pristine nodded, "I know my father is a very good businessman. The fact that our net worth is equal to the royal treasury is the statement of his capability. Give him two more years and we will be even richer than you."
"Well, it’s what you want. If he can exceed our net worth, then let him do that. I don’t really care about this." Whether or not Rinkshel Duchy would be richer than me, I don’t care. As long as he is my ally, I can tolerate this.
Pristine moved her tongue in her mouth as if she was thinking something. After thinking for a minute, she opened her mouth. She said, "What do you want from my father?"
"I don’t understand your question."
"That day... you recruited my father into your faction. Although, the very idea of an emperor making their own faction is absurd," she said in a very serious tone. It’s really absurd... and I know it very well. Emperors come into power with the support of factions. It was the same with my father. But his heiress, that’s my predecessor or me... wasn’t supported by them. They were against my coronation. They regarded me as an incapable ruler. For them, someone like original protagonist should be the one who could rule the Charatshore empire.
"I needed a faction to support me. All the other factions support Kelshin. You too as well support him."
Pristine spluttered at my words. "W-who s-s-said I-I s-support him? I-I d-don’t, o-okay?" she stuttered.
I raised an eyebrow at her words. Why is she denying this? I am not an idiot who will believe her words. She is really obsessed with Kelshin. The birthday incident proved it.
"Are you kidding me? Don’t you remember what you did to me?"
Pristine reddened a bit from my words. She closed her eyes and muttered some words under her breath.
"What did you say?" I asked her.
She opened her eyes and shook her head in denial. "Nothing, I was talking with myself," said Pristine.
I asked, "You often do that? I mean, talking with yourself. Do you do that?"
"I do that. It makes me calm," replied Pristine, with a straight face.
I leaned forward and asked, "What do you talk about? Tell me, I am kind of interested on this self-talk thingy. You like it?"
Pristine nodded her head and said, "I like it. You should also do that. It will make you calm as well."
I rubbed my neck where I had the marks, and thought for a second. Yeah, I always talk with myself. So, I can understand what she is talking about.
"Good. Then you should give me some tips. Emperor works are really tiresome and maybe your ’self-talk’ can help me."
She asked, "Are you flirting?"
"I am."
Pristine gave me a smile. She said, "It’s a very poor attempt. Did someone teach you to do this?" I nodded, "I am worried about the one who taught you this. Seriously, they need to help themselves before teaching you this shit. May I ask the person’s name? The one who taught you this."
Suroralia Actoze. Although, I can’t say this name directly. "Someone did. A very important person," I replied, with a hit of mystery in my voice.
"Is the person important to you?" Pristine asked in a very unfriendly tone. What’s up with this girl? Oh, I know why she is behaving like this. She probably thinks that person is Kelshin. I mentally puked at this thought. I will kill myself before even I think to flirt with that bastard.
[Hey! Don’t make weird vomiting noises in your head. I live here! In case you have forgotten about the little old me.]
Ignoring it, I said, "If you think it’s Kelshin, then I am sorry. He is not."
"I know that. I am asking you if that person is important to you or not. Kelshin is not the one I am talking about. Is he or she close to you?"
"No. She is not." Suroralia wasn’t close to me. She was someone who I am weary about. Even if she marked me, I would not trust her completely.
Pristine finally took a sigh of relief. She asked, "Do you remember about our childhood time?"
Childhood time? OG’s memories don’t have anything on her childhood period. All the memories I have revolved around the plot.
I lied, "I don’t."
Chuckling, Pristine said, "Figured you would say this. I will refresh it for you, okay? We were best friends when we were kids."
"I doubt that."
"No, need to doubt it. I am telling the truth. We were the best of friends. We did a lot of things together. Hahaha... our parents were quite troubled by us. We were the official troublemakers. You know, I once said that in future I will marry and you will be my wife."
My expression cracked. Pristine is simply making up. I scoffed, "You are lying. I am not a fool who will just believe whatever you said. What you want is, to become the wife of Kelshin."
Pristine closed her mouth tightly. I glared at her with a provoking expression on my face.
Sighing, she said, "Can we... live the past? I really want to become friends with you again. Can’t we bury the hatchet and move forward?"
I shook my head in denial. I said, "I can’t trust you. What if all this is just an act for me to lower my guard? What if all this is a plan of yours to attack me?" I got up from my seat, "I have seen how you act towards me. It’s not beneath you to hurt me if that lands Kelshin in your lap. Sorry, I just can’t. Thank you. It was nice talking with you. Bye, see you later." With that, I left the shop.
