Chapter 859 - 354: A Confession Under the Moonlight_2
Zhou Yuwen originally wanted to brush it off, saying they were just normal classmates visiting this side of town.
Upon hearing this, Zhou Guobin didn't say a word; he simply fixed his gaze on Zhou Yuwen, an expression that told him everything.
Zhou Yuwen had no choice but to admit that she was his ex-girlfriend.
Zhou Guobin felt that this explanation was still not entirely truthful.
But he was too tired to argue further. He said, "I don't care if she's your ex-girlfriend or current girlfriend. Let me tell you, here in the Zhou family, we're all clean and upright. Don't go breaking the rules."
Zhou Yuwen nodded, saying he understood.
Zhou Guobin nodded again and said, "Alright, go out."
And so Zhou Yuwen left the room.
Zheng Yanyan had been on the road all day today, thinking she would be exhausted. However, lying on the small bed, she found herself unable to fall asleep. She wasn't someone who couldn't adapt to a new bed; it was simply that being in an unfamiliar place naturally made her feel a little lost.
She had come here with eager anticipation to see Zhou Yuwen. During their moments of intimacy, she felt a fleeting burst of happiness. But as the excitement dissipated, it left behind an indescribable emptiness.
She still felt lonely.
She lay alone in the quiet room.
The surroundings were pitch black, and she stared at the ceiling.
For no apparent reason, she suddenly felt like crying.
She missed Zhou Yuwen.
Yes, even though Zhou Yuwen had just left.
She just couldn't bear this profound sense of isolation.
Perhaps before she came, she envisioned that after arriving in Xu Huai, Zhou Yuwen would hold her every day, and she wouldn't have to compete with anyone else for his attention anymore.
But reality wasn't so ideal.
That was why Zheng Yanyan's nose felt a sting of bitterness.
She wanted to call Zhou Yuwen and tell him that she missed him, that she wanted him to come keep her company.
But Zheng Yanyan hesitated, thinking such an act would make her seem pathetic.
Just then, a sudden knock at the door startled her.
The sound gave Zheng Yanyan a fright.
A wealthy young lady indulging in romance might feel that every problem disappears, but once the rush of dopamine fades, all that remains is the mess beneath it.
Though Zhou Yuwen's family background was decent, the place where she stayed—a rental unit in the outskirts—could never compare to the Capital City.
"Who is it?" Zheng Yanyan mustered her courage and called out softly.
There was silence outside for a long while.
Then Zhou Yuwen's voice emerged, "It's me."
Upon hearing Zhou Yuwen's words, Zheng Yanyan's heart instantly soared with joy. She quickly scrambled out of bed, "Zhou Yuwen, is it you?"
"Yes, it's me!"
Without thinking, Zheng Yanyan opened the door.
The moonlight permeating the room through the window cast a silvery glow on the dim interior.
Zheng Yanyan, dressed in a thin nightgown, rushed toward Zhou Yuwen the moment she saw him at the door. Her joy was beyond words as she threw herself onto him, hugging him tightly.
Zhou Yuwen made a shushing gesture, signaling her to lower her voice.
He then carried her back into the room, shutting the door behind him.
Zheng Yanyan let out an audible sound of delight, and Zhou Yuwen, in turn, held her and twirled her around twice.
Zheng Yanyan asked him, "Why did you come here so late at night?"
Zhou Yuwen whispered, "You were probably scared alone. I came to keep you company."
"Keep me company?"
Her eyes sparkled as she thought of something, breaking into a grin. "You're staying the whole night?"
"Yes, the whole night!"
Zhou Yuwen teased her by touching her nose.
Overjoyed, Zheng Yanyan threw herself onto him again.
Zhou Yuwen patted her head affectionately and said, "Silly girl."
With such a lovely girl staying in the adjacent room, it wasn't realistic to expect Zhou Yuwen to sleep soundly in his own room. The fact that Zheng Yanyan had traveled such a distance to find him truly moved Zhou Yuwen.
After confirming his parents were asleep, Zhou Yuwen snuck out to her room.
The moonlight outside was as serene as water. Zheng Yanyan rested contentedly on Zhou Yuwen's body, listening to the rhythm of his heartbeat. In the dim room, her large, soulful eyes stayed fixed on Zhou Yuwen, a smile playing on her lips.
Zhou Yuwen stroked her hair and gently told her to stop staring. "Sleep now."
"No, I want to keep watching!" Zheng Yanyan pouted and muttered playfully.
That night, Zhou Yuwen did not engage in intimacy with Zheng Yanyan.
Instead, the two simply lay side by side in their sleepwear.
During her trip back home, Zheng Yanyan had dyed her hair black.
Now, her dark, lustrous locks tumbled over one shoulder, pressed down beneath her as she lay there. Her pink nightgown, with its deep V neckline, faintly revealed a delicate curve in the dim light.
The ambiance was harmonious and serene.
She lay obediently on Zhou Yuwen's chest, her lips trembling as she softly spoke about her yearning during her time in the Capital City, and how she couldn't fall asleep without her husband holding her.
Stroking her small tummy, Zhou Yuwen teased, "Are you satisfied now? I'm here beside you."
Zheng Yanyan replied, "Still, I'm not happy!"
Zhou Yuwen asked, "Why not?"
"Because of that vixen Su Qing!"
Zheng Yanyan raised her head and climbed higher onto Zhou Yuwen, saying as she moved.
Zhou Yuwen said, "But she helped you, didn't she?"
"Hmph, I don't need her help. I'd rather just tell my mom the truth. If you admit to being my boyfriend, what's so wrong with that?" Zheng Yanyan said with newfound resolve.
Zhou Yuwen asked her, "But won't your mom mind that I'm from the countryside?"
"I..."
Zheng Yanyan hesitated. Though she didn't mind Zhou Yuwen's background, she worried her parents might disapprove of their relationship.
Pausing briefly, she replied confidently, "They won't. My parents aren't that snobby."
Zhou Yuwen simply smiled upon hearing this. He gently cupped Zheng Yanyan's face and said earnestly, "Yanyan, you're such a good girl."
"I feel like I've let you down."
"If it weren't for me, you might've met someone better. And I..."
Before Zhou Yuwen could finish, Zheng Yanyan stopped him by covering his mouth. She said, "Don't say that. Everything has been my choice."
Looking at her clear, innocent eyes, Zhou Yuwen truly felt guilty. While Zheng Yanyan hadn't expressed it outright, he could tell her visit was driven by a hope to reconcile.
But upon arriving, complications had derailed everything.
Feeling deeply remorseful, Zhou Yuwen said, "I'm sorry."
But Zheng Yanyan dismissed it, saying, "It's not your fault."
"It's that little tramp Su Qing."
"Didn't you say that she told others you were her boyfriend? You were only considerate of her feelings, weren't you? My husband is just too kind."
Zheng Yanyan had climbed onto Zhou Yuwen's shoulder by now. Her hair brushed against his cheek as she leaned close, their heads touching while she gazed at him.
The more Zheng Yanyan spoke, the deeper Zhou Yuwen felt his guilt.
He wanted to explain, but Zheng Yanyan wasn't interested in his explanation.
She once again silenced him with her finger, insisting, "I just want to ask you one thing."
"Do you like me?"
"I do," Zhou Yuwen nodded.
Zheng Yanyan broke into laughter, asking, "How much do you like me?"
Zhou Yuwen answered, "More than I like Su Qing."
Her joy reached its peak as her smile deepened. She grabbed Zhou Yuwen's face, showering him with playful kisses. Pouting, she said, "You bad boy, how are you so good at sweet-talking people?"
Zhou Yuwen turned over and pulled Zheng Yanyan into his embrace, saying, "I'm not."
"I only sweet-talk my own wife!"
