Chapter 4: Instant Kill – The Ferocious Beast, Black Scorpion-Lion
Zhong Yue had also noticed the surrounding creatures, but he paid them no mind.
Those who dare to speak but not show themselves—no matter how strong—were nothing but cowards. Not worth a second of his attention. His priority was dealing with the Black Scorpion-Lion before him.
“Caught your eye, did I? Perfect. I’ve got a little treasure of my own for you to feast your eyes on.”
Zhong Yue sneered. With a tap of his finger, the Wood Spirit Pearl erupted with dazzling divine light and then hurled itself directly at the Black Scorpion-Lion.
At the same time, the Source Heaven Divine Art activated, causing the surrounding earth veins to tremble as an obscure ripple spread forth.
This was the power of the earth veins—containing a sealing effect. Even though the earth veins here were already fragmented, the mountains remained, allowing for considerable might to still be drawn from them.
With the powers of Heaven and Earth acting in unison, the Black Scorpion-Lion was thrown into disarray.
Its wings flapped frantically, unleashing a barrage of feathers aimed at intercepting the falling Wood Spirit Pearl.
At the same time, its barbed tail swept out horizontally, striking at the power of the earth veins below, intending to break through Zhong Yue’s seal and escape through the ground.
To be fair, the Black Scorpion-Lion was no ordinary beast. As a ferocious creature, its body was unrivalled. That barbed tail was a fearsome natural weapon—sharp enough to tear through most bindings with ease.
Under normal circumstances, such a seal would stand no chance against the piercing force of the tail.
Unfortunately, it had run into Zhong Yue.
No matter how powerful its body or sharp its tail, it was still no match for the might of the Earth itself.
Though Zhong Yue wasn’t directly controlling the entire land, using the Source Heaven Divine Art to cover tens of thousands of miles was effortless for him. A single mountain carried the weight of ten thousand tonnes—imagine the force when the mountains of a ten-thousand-mile radius were concentrated on one point.
The barbed tail struck the earth vein’s power—and at once, a clash like clanging metal rang out.
Clang—
A forceful rebound shot back. The beast’s escape was blocked. Before it could react, the Wood Spirit Pearl came crashing down from above.
Pfft—
A burst of blood erupted as the Black Scorpion-Lion was sent flying backwards, its flesh scattering through the air.
“What?!”
The Black Scorpion-Lion was shocked and enraged, but it reacted swiftly, twisting mid-air to escape in the direction it was already being flung.
It still had no idea what was going on—why Zhong Yue, despite being only a Golden Immortal, could wield earth vein power over tens of thousands of miles. But it had already been considering retreat. Now was the perfect time to flee.
Escape. He had to escape. That was all the Black Scorpion-Lion could think about.
Meanwhile, the watching cultivators were stunned.
It was over? Already? How had the battle ended before it had even properly begun?
But very quickly, their expressions turned serious. Only now did they begin to reflect on what they’d just seen.
First, an unnamed golden light had sealed the surroundings, then a strike with an innate treasure—such a clean and calculated approach revealed frightening precision.
The most crucial element was that golden light. It was indestructible. They had seen it with their own eyes—the Black Scorpion-Lion’s barbed tail couldn’t even pierce it.
“Who is this youth? He’s manipulating earth vein power—could he be connected to Zhenyuanzi of Wuzhuang Temple?”
Someone voiced the question in shock and confusion. They had recognised the golden light as earth vein energy, but couldn’t discern Zhong Yue’s exact identity.
But their confusion would remain unanswered—Zhong Yue had no interest in enlightening them.
At that moment, Zhong Yue stood in midair. With a cold smile, he beckoned towards the falling Wood Spirit Pearl in the distance.
“Do you really think you can escape?”
As the words fell, Zhong Yue’s figure flickered. Earth vein power erupted around him, and in the blink of an eye, he vanished from the scene.
When he reappeared, he was already standing before the fleeing Black Scorpion-Lion.
“No enmity between us, and yet you dared to attack me? You should have known the consequences from the beginning.”
Zhong Yue emerged slowly from the mountain range, facing the wounded beast that was still flapping its wings in flight. He clenched his fist.
Earth vein energy was naturally heavy—perfect for delivering crushing blows. So when Zhong Yue first took human form, he had created a simple fist technique.
Now, as he unleashed that technique, the boundless power of the earth veins surged into his hand. Symbols and sigils lit up on his fist as he hurled it forward with unstoppable force.
Boom—
The massive fist pierced through the firmament. The air itself was blasted into a vacuum, and spatial cracks appeared, splitting the sky.
Far ahead, the Black Scorpion-Lion was fleeing with all its might—only to find a colossal fist crashing toward it head-on.
“What?!”
Fury and fear flooded its mind. It tried to raise its wings in defence.
But the punch was too powerful—backed by the weight of tens of thousands of miles of earth vein force. Even a Taiyi Golden Immortal would be severely wounded by such a strike, let alone a mere Golden Immortal like the Black Scorpion-Lion.
Despite its identity as a ferocious beast with an unparalleled physique, the moment it took that punch, its chest exploded.
Boom—
A thunderous blast echoed through the skies. Blood and flesh rained down from above as half of the Black Scorpion-Lion’s body was blown apart.
And yet, even gravely injured, the beast did not die. It still struggled on.
“Oh?”
Zhong Yue watched this scene with some surprise.
However, he didn’t think much of it. He immediately urged the Wood Spirit Pearl to descend, smashing the Black Scorpion-Lion’s skull and causing its life force to dissipate.
The headless corpse of the beast plummeted from the sky, crashing heavily to the ground.
Once all of this was done, Zhong Yue turned his gaze towards the area where the divine senses were entwining. The threat in his eyes was unmistakable.
The entities observing also seemed to understand the situation, and one by one, they withdrew their auras, hiding themselves.
Seeing this, Zhong Yue nodded with satisfaction. If the others did not provoke him, he had no desire to start unnecessary conflicts. This was the best outcome.
Descending from the sky, Zhong Yue landed in front of the Black Scorpion-Lion’s corpse.
Staring at the lifeless body before him, Zhong Yue’s eyes shimmered with divine light.
After the recent skirmish, he had begun to form some ideas in his mind.
Since the Black Scorpion-Lion could devour demonic energy, could he perhaps study its corpse to develop methods that would allow him to extract demonic energy and accelerate the restoration of the earth veins?
He even considered creating a divine technique to consume the demonic energy, just as the Black Scorpion-Lion did, and convert it into his own power.
Zhong Yue was aware that this idea was extremely dangerous. After all, demonic energy was like poison to cultivators. Even a small amount of exposure could lead to grave consequences.
Yet, he also recognized that it represented a tremendous opportunity. With his exceptional insight, he was confident in his ability to create the corresponding method.
If successful, the rewards would be immense.
How many earth veins were there across the entire Western regions? How many were covered in demonic energy? The sheer number was beyond imagination.
If he could devour all the demonic energy from these earth veins, combined with the primordial energy of the earth veins, his strength would skyrocket, and his foundation would undergo rapid transformation.
With this thought in mind, Zhong Yue lifted the Black Scorpion-Lion’s corpse and directly headed towards the earth vein entrance.
Soon, he arrived at the entrance to the earth veins.
Without hesitation, Zhong Yue entered, sealing the entrance behind him to prevent any disturbances.
