Pretending to Cultivate in Kindergarten -
Chapter 300: The Interview
Early the next morning, before the sun had fully risen, Jiang Jingshi was already up and heading into the bathroom for a shower.
She carefully washed every inch of her body—this was a ritual she followed every time she was going to see Lin Zhengran, just like any girl would do before meeting someone she liked.
After the shower, she selected a more mature set of lace lingerie from her wardrobe.
Once dressed, she picked out a new white blouse and a women’s business suit.
Even though it was formal wear, when Jiang Jingshi wore it, it didn’t look rigid at all. Instead, it gave off a dignified and elegant aura—solemn, yet beautiful.
After getting dressed, she ran her fingers through her soft, wavy long hair and headed downstairs to the dining room for breakfast.
“Good morning, Miss Jingshi. Should we bring your breakfast up for you?”
“Mhm.”
She had already let the chefs know last night, so breakfast was brought out shortly after.
Jiang Jingshi sat at the table and unlocked her phone. First, she checked the pinned chat—confirmed that her boyfriend Zhengzheng hadn’t woken up yet—then scrolled through her schedule for the day.She didn’t send Lin Zhengran a good morning message, afraid she might disturb his sleep.
Of course, while checking her schedule, she kept flipping back to their chat in case he suddenly messaged her—she didn’t want to miss it.
While eating breakfast, Jiang Jingshi heard some noise.
From the second floor—Jiang Qian’s bedroom. Her sister was actually up too, though her hair looked a bit messy.
Clearly, she wasn’t planning to go out today, and just like her, had slept poorly last night.
Normally, in the mornings, Jiang Jingshi would greet her sister with some passive-aggressive jab, like:
“Qianqian, you’re up? Had a nightmare or something to wake up this early?”
But after what happened last night, she was seriously pissed.
This morning, she had no intention of speaking to her.
Jiang Qian came downstairs too, ignoring her sister completely. Sitting far away, she said to the housekeeper, “I’m hungry.”
The housekeeper nodded. “Alright, I’ll ask the kitchen to prepare something for you too, Second Miss.”
Jiang Qian added, “Don’t make it the same as my sister’s.”
The housekeeper was used to it. “Of course.”
After the servant left, Jiang Qian glanced at her sister’s outfit, then at the time, frowning slightly.
Jiang Jingshi finished breakfast, wiped her mouth, and got up to leave. Before heading out, she said the only sentence to her sister that morning:
“I’m off to work. Your brother-in-law is still waiting for me at the office.”
Jiang Qian clenched her teeth at the dining table.
She knew it was suspicious that her sister was up so early! And of course—it was to go see Lin Zhengran! And this time, there was nothing she could do about it!
So angry that even after the housekeeper brought her breakfast, Jiang Qian had no appetite and just stared at her porridge.
She suddenly yelled, “Xiaomeng! Xiaomeng!”
Fang Meng came out of her bedroom on the second floor, rubbing her eyes in her pure white pajamas. “What is it, Qianqian? Why are you up so early?”
Jiang Qian took an angry gulp of her porridge. “Get dressed and come shopping with me! I dropped my phone in water last night. Gotta buy a new one today.”
Fang Meng looked downstairs, puzzled. “You dropped it? Wasn’t your phone waterproof? It should be fine as long as it wasn’t submerged too long.”
“I did submerge it. For the whole night.”
Fang Meng blinked blankly. She didn’t ask for the details, but knowing Jiang Qian, she could already guess what happened.
She asked casually, “Let me guess—you sent Lin Zhengran a message last night, panicked, and decided to just toss the phone?”
Jiang Qian froze mid-bite, then dodged the question.
“Once I get the new phone, I’m not logging into my main WeChat account for a while. Before school starts, I’ll only be using my backup. If you need me, just message that one.”
Fang Meng exhaled. “Got it. I’ll go get ready now.”
Jiang Jingshi sat in the car on the way to the office. Secretary Pan Lin sat in the passenger seat, eyeing her boss’s outfit.
“President Jiang? Did you not sleep well last night?”
Jiang Jingshi was surprised. “Do I have dark circles?” She pulled out her phone to check her makeup in the camera.
Pan Lin shook her head. “No, not at all. You look just as gorgeous as always. You just seem a little tired, that’s all.”
Jiang Jingshi let out a breath.
“I did sleep poorly. You saw the message I sent you this morning, right? Push all non-urgent work to a later time.”
“I saw it. So, is President Lin coming to the company today too?”
Jiang Jingshi couldn’t help but smile at the mention of Lin Zhengran. “Mm, he’s coming today.”
Over half an hour later, on the 7th floor of Zhengshi Company, inside the General Manager’s office, Lin Zhengran had already arrived—even earlier than Jiang Jingshi.
Because his mom was going to interview at Zhengshi Music around noon, he had to come early to make sure he’d see her before she went in.
He was sitting at the large executive desk when Jiang Jingshi came over with some documents.
“Zhengzheng, these are the more important documents for today. Take a look.”
“Thanks,” Lin Zhengran said as he took them, flipping through and signing off, trying to process them quickly.
But after a short while, he turned to see Jiang Jingshi sitting beside him, staring at him the whole time.
Smiling at him.
Jiang Jingshi smiled gently back.
After wrapping up the paperwork, Lin Zhengran finally asked, “What’s up?”
“Nothing,” she said. “Just wondering why you came in so early today. You even beat me here and got straight to work...”
“Oh,” Lin Zhengran replied. “I have something I need to take care of later. So the sooner I finish here, the sooner I can head over.”
Jiang Jingshi looked disappointed. “Another thing? Aren’t you staying at the office today?”
Lin Zhengran smiled. “No, I have to go to Zhengshi Music in a bit. If you want to come with me, you can.”
He was teasing a little, but when she heard he wasn’t leaving the company entirely, Jiang Jingshi was reassured. “What’s it about?”
“You’ll see when we get there. But you seem kind of distracted today.”
“Not really. I’m just still a little shaken from last night…”
Lin Zhengran reached out his arm, and Jiang Jingshi naturally leaned onto his shoulder, letting him wrap his arm around her.
They looked more and more like a real couple.
“Zhengzheng, we won’t break up, right? No matter if it’s my sister or anyone else who tries to take you from me—you won’t leave me, right?”
“Mm. Of course not. We’re already together. There’s no such thing as breaking up.”
Jiang Jingshi smiled. “That’s all I needed to hear. I feel better now.”
She tilted her head slightly to look into his eyes. The two of them locked gazes, drew closer, and shared a full, heartfelt kiss.
Lin Zhengran glanced at the time—it was already past 7.
“It’s about time. Jingshi, come with me to Zhengshi Music, so I can take care of something.”
“What’s this mysterious thing?”
“It’s about my mom.”
“Your mom?”
“Mm.”
Meanwhile, outside the gates of Zhengshi Music, over a dozen taxis pulled up along the curb one after another.
Dressed in a skirt and long-sleeved top, looking neat and polished, Lin Xiaoli stepped out of one of the cars and paid the driver.
She looked around at all the arriving vehicles, realizing they were probably all here for the interview...
She nervously swallowed a lump in her throat.
