Possessed Wolfless: From Rejected to Vengeful Lycans' Queen -
Chapter 124: VIP Aide
Chapter 124: VIP Aide
Every tap of Lethia’s heels felt like a rhythm syncing with the quickening beat of his heart.
Goddess—he might actually believe in one for the first time.
He parted his lips slightly, but nothing came out. His eyes stayed glued to her.
This was the first time Zeran had ever laid eyes on a woman who made him breathe shallow and nearly lose his composure.
The sheer force of her presence made him want to smile—and he nearly did, but held it back. The sight of Lethia’s silhouette, the gentle swell of her baby bump visible beneath her dress, stirred something visceral in him.
He felt like he should be worshipping her. The woman who was carrying his child.
Every step she took down the staircase towards him moved with such grace, it left him breathless.
"You look so... bright," Zeran said, clipped. ’Bright? What kind of bullshit is that?’
He had fully intended to grumble at her for taking so long to get ready. He just needed to say something, anything, to ground his spiraling thoughts. Sadly, the words he managed were worse than the storm in his head.
Lethia blinked, uncertain if that was a compliment or a jab about her excessive makeup. She cleared her throat awkwardly.
"Yeah... I might just compete with garden lights at night, I’m so... bright."
Her dry sarcasm and that small, unimpressed smile tugged a chuckle from him. He felt like a damn fool for how awkward this was.
He stepped closer.
"Shall we?"
Zeran offered his hand. Lethia took it, and together they walked out of the mansion, hand in hand.
But just before they reached the car, Zeran halted and stopped her with a firm grip. He reached into the pocket of his suit.
"Turn around," he said. Lethia frowned, unmoving.
So he took her arm and gently turned her so her back was to him.
"This will complete your brightness," Zeran said, holding out the necklace before clasping it around Lethia’s neck.
The soft brush of his fingers at her nape sent a shiver crawling down her spine. She flinched, biting her lower lip to hold in the gasp.
"Do you enjoy dolling someone up however you please?" Lethia asked with a bite in her tone, trying to maintain her calm composure even as her racing heartbeat betrayed her.
Zeran turned her back to face him, then fastened a gold pin shaped like the letter L on the left side of her chest.
"As long as it’s pretty, yes."
Lethia inhaled sharply. That word pretty struck straight on her princess-button. ’Did he just call me pretty?’
Their closeness made it impossible not to admire his long lashes. She couldn’t help but hope their pup would inherit them.
"What is this?" she asked, her gaze dropping to the pin on her chest.
"Let’s talk in the car."
Zeran opened the car door for her, and she slipped inside first.
Catching her reflection in the side window, Lethia touched the necklace gently with her fingers. It sparkled like stars. Beautiful. And—definitely too much.
"It’s so bright, right? I’m sure people will go blind when they see you," Zeran teased.
Lethia snapped her head toward him, only to catch the softened look in his eyes—he’d already been staring at her.
Their eyes met, locked for a moment too long, and she sighed heavily.
"I’m not sure we would meet people. Most of them are beasts. And I have proof that at least one here is still not blind." Her voice dripped with sarcasm as she turned her gaze to the window again.
Zeran chuckled. "Who’s gonna protect you if I go blind, then?"
Once again, Lethia couldn’t bring herself to respond to Zeran’s words—too flustered, too exposed. Had she become an open book to him? He always knew how to press her right buttons without fail.
"That pin... It’s a VIP Aide pin. I’m making you the one," Zeran continued, his voice calm.
"W–what? Why?"
"This Gala... the moment you step into that room, every eye will be on you. Do you realise just how famous you’ve become?"
Even Lethia hadn’t noticed, not until Chasey pointed it out.
"And? What does that have to do with being your VIP Aide?"
"It’s a weapon," Zeran said plainly. "You said it yourself—you hate being in anyone’s debt. So instead of just being my woman and taking everything the easy way, be my partner. Be my worthy queen."
Lethia let out a bitter laugh. "Zeran, you’re wrong if you think I want anything to do with Lykon Haven politics. I just want my ranch back."
"Lethia, listen. That ranch isn’t just a ranch anymore. Varrel’s turned it into a public stock. The only way to reclaim it is to crash it and buy it back. And we can’t do that from the outside.
Besides... didn’t you say you wanted to humiliate Varrel? Then be my VIP Aide. March your way into the parliament hall and ruin him as a rival. That’ll be far more satisfying than playing the role of a bitter ex-wife."
Lethia’s mouth fell open, and for a second, she forgot how to close it. Her insides twisted at the sheer audacity of what Zeran had just said. How the hell could he drop a plan that huge on her just minutes before she was about to walk into a den full of beasts?
"You... I don’t understand. What are you really planning?"
"Until our baby is born, let’s turn Ashcroft Ranch and the Cheese farm into a leading international industry."
Lethia’s eyes widened as a wave of memory slammed into her.
What he’d just said—those very words—were her father’s dream.
The one he fought for until his dying breath. And somehow, this man knew. How the hell did he know?
"Zeran—"
"We’re here," he cut her off just as the car entered a wooded area with open gates and an uphill path.
"Your path won’t be easy, and everyone in there will hate you. But... the more they hate you, the more they’ll talk. And the more they talk, the higher your public interest climbs. That’s the fastest way to enter the parliament."
Lethia blinked, still trying to process everything Zeran had thrown at her.
"I... still don’t get it—"
"Relax... just be yourself. Don’t fake anything. You’ve got a natural talent for driving people mad."
