Chapter 306 - Huge Rewards

(A/N: Well, aren't you guys getting spoiled lately? Yet another bonus Chapter, thanks to the Patreon absolutely blowing up! If this keeps up, I might just consider doing double uploads next week too...In the meantime, get ready, tomorrow marks the launch of a brand-new Dragon Ball story! A young fella wakes up as a Saiyan child and sets out to train, fight, and rise to the top as the strongest warrior in the Multiverse. Stay tuned!)

When the Ultimate Water Shuriken tripled in size and transformed from blue to golden, it became unstoppable. Nothing in this world, except perhaps a water hydrant, could withstand such power!

Archie considered evasive maneuvers, but the golden Ultimate Water Shuriken had grown so massive it covered every possible escape route for Mega Sharpedo. There was simply nowhere to dodge!

Left with no choice but to fight desperately, Archie commanded Mega Sharpedo to unleash another Hydro Pump. The result was catastrophic, Mega Sharpedo was slammed into the ground with such force that the floor cracked inch by inch, the fissures spreading throughout the entire room.

The impact nearly lifted the entire floor off its foundation!

If it weren't for Pokemon's special protection rules, Mega Sharpedo would have been reduced to Mega Sharpedo sashimi by now!

"You're a smart man," John said, looking Archie straight in the eye. "The gap between us is obvious. Do you still want to continue?" He was returning Archie's earlier taunt with perfect timing.

Archie's face twisted with frustration, but he still managed a defiant snort.

"You've missed your opportunity to witness greatness," he spat. "You'll regret this!"

With that, he pulled out his Pokeball and recalled Sharpedo, then turned and leapt into the pool behind him.

Just as John moved to pursue, Izumi blocked his path.

"Your rival is me!" she declared.

Another Sharpedo burst through the water, rushing toward John.

But when it came within two meters of reaching him, Greninja intercepted with a devastating Cut!

Immediately, everything in front of them began to collapse.

John retreated to his room.

The mission was complete.

"Finally, Greninja's transformation has been mastered," John sighed with relief.

Initially, he had expected to face a desperate battle before Greninja could achieve this transformation. He hadn't anticipated success after encountering only moderate difficulties and obstacles.

He had the Soothe Bell blessed by Mesprit to thank for that.

John pulled out the Soothe Bell. While his mentor Saul had called it a "Pseudo-legendary item," it functioned as effectively as a truly legendary item in situations that required emotion and bond as power.

After tucking the Soothe Bell away, John checked his Gameboy. A summary of the completed dungeon had already appeared on screen.

[Dungeon "Team Aqua Base" (completed), rewards as follows:]

[1. Random Advanced Pokemon Item]

[2. Rare Skill TM]

[3. Team Pokemon Random Exclusive Item]

[4. Designated Pokemon MEGA Evolution Stone (reward for completing side missions)]

[5. Blue Orb (Imprisoned) (Special reward for first completion)]

As expected of a level 80 dungeon! Clearing Team Aqua's base had finally yielded some unique rewards.

John examined the fifth item first.

[Blue Orb (Imprisoned): Created by ancient humans to control legendary Pokemon. With it, you can awaken the god of the sea in special areas! (Currently imprisoned and unusable. Will unlock after completing the storyline, granting additional attributes)]

John had seen the Blue Orb in the game before. It was an item that could awaken Kyogre at designated locations after the first phase ended. It could also enable Kyogre to undergo Primal Reversion, as its essence was actually crystallized Natural Energy.

The difference here was that it remained imprisoned and could only be used after unlocking, and then it would gain additional attributes!

As for the storyline to be completed, John guessed it must involve the battle between Kyogre and Groudon. According to the plot, the Blue Orb should currently be in Archie's possession.

John suspected he would also receive the "Red Orb" corresponding to Groudon after clearing the Magma Team base.

He'd have to wait to see the effects after completing the storyline, but both orbs were, at minimum, legendary Pokemon items!

After collecting the Blue Orb, John turned his attention to the other rewards.

For the designated Pokemon MEGA Stone, the choice was obvious, he'd use it for Tyranitar's MEGA Stone.

"I was just talking about not having a MEGA Stone for Tyranitar," John chuckled. "And here it is!"

He expected that clearing the Magma Team dungeon would also yield another MEGA Stone. That one would go to Aggron on his second team.

The third reward gave John an exclusive item for one of the Pokemon he had brought into the dungeon.

The item was a "Magikarp Ribbon."

...Seriously?

[Magikarp Ribbon: 50% chance to reduce damage by 50% when attacked by electric moves (Exclusive to Magikarp and Gyarados; invalid when carried by other Pokemon)]

"Huh?" John was taken aback. An item exclusive to Magikarp and Gyarados?

He remembered that Gyarados already had one exclusive item.

John immediately pulled the exclusive item that Gyarados had been carrying from his backpack.

[Rainstorm Scarf: When the Pokemon enters battle, the weather turns to rainstorm. In rainy weather, using water-type moves does not consume PP (Exclusive to Magikarp and Gyarados; invalid when carried by other Pokemon)]

The two exclusive items each had their advantages, one brought rain, while the other mitigated Gyarados's electric weakness.

The Rainstorm Scarf could trigger rain without needing an electric Pokemon. This would benefit John's own Greninja as well; he could send out Gyarados first, then switch to Greninja.

In rainy conditions, the power of the Ultimate Water Shuriken would increase even more!

The Magikarp Ribbon, meanwhile, addressed Gyarados's electric weakness, a significant advantage. For Gyarados, with its quadruple weakness to electricity, this was practically half an artifact. A 50% chance to reduce damage by 50% effectively turned that quadruple weakness into merely double weakness.

But... with only a 50% probability, and still a double weakness, John wondered if wearing a Focus Sash might be more practical.

Then again, after Mega Evolution, Gyarados would become Water/Dark type, meaning the damage would be reduced by 50%, and electric attacks would no longer have a type advantage.

As John pondered which exclusive item to give Gyarados, a notification suddenly appeared on his Gameboy.

[Combine "Magikarp Ribbon" with "Rainstorm Shawl"?]

"They can be synthesized?" John was surprised, but immediately selected "yes."

[Acquired item: Crown of Gyarados (★★)]

[Crown of Gyarados (★★): When Pokemon enters battle, the weather turns to heavy rain. Water-type moves do not consume PP in rainy weather. When attacked by electric-type moves, there's a 50% chance to reduce damage by 50% and a 25% chance to absorb the damage, recovering 25% HP. (Exclusive to Magikarp and Gyarados; invalid when carried by other Pokemon)]
