Chapter 557: Leaving Alola!

The conversion device made from Sparkling Stone, namely the radiator, light energy, and other miscellaneous preparatory work, is the origin of Arcanine’s Totem Aura.

Because of this research achievement, Terrance felt that there was something deeply hidden behind the history of Alola. However, he didn’t want to dig any deeper.

The artificially created Totem Aura by Terrance required maintenance, primarily through light energy and the consumption of the Sparkling Stone’s own energy. Terrance had estimated the “durability” of a single Sparkling Stone—roughly enough to sustain one Pokémon’s Totem Aura for about a year.

This duration, of course, did not satisfy Terrance. After all, Sparkling Stones were far too rare.

Therefore, Terrance hadn’t rushed to use the other two Sparkling Stones. He wanted to find a more efficient conversion method to reduce the consumption of a Sparkling Stone’s “durability.”

The research details and principles were all kept in Terrance’s mind. They were extremely precious data—priceless in value.

Terrance retrieved Beautifly.

After four months, with its foundation, it had fully mastered acrobatic flying maneuvers.

Melemele Island.

Terrance arrived before the waterfall and watched Gallade slash through it in an instant, a faint smile appearing on his face.

After four months of meditation, Gallade’s Teleport had also become even more refined.

Arcanine, Beautifly, Gallade… all of them had made significant progress.

But the one who had progressed the most—wasn’t any of them.

Castform. Ever since four months ago, when it began training with the weather-based secret techniques gifted by the Weather Institute—combined with Terrance’s various rare treasures and compilation of move-training methods—its strength had surpassed even that of Arcanine and the others!

Damp Rock and the other three rocks, Mystic Water, Water Gem, and countless other valuable treasures—all of their energies were completely exhausted during these four months, converted into Castform’s power.

The four secret techniques in Terrance’s possession—unless you were a Trainer at the level of the Elite Four—would make any other Trainer green with envy.

These four secret techniques possessed the power to elevate Castform’s foundation to the level of the Elite Four!

Of course, further investment of resources from Terrance would still be required going forward.

A month ago, an enormous sea wave appeared in a certain sea area of the Alola region. The cause of its formation remains a mystery to this day.

It’s been speculated that the destructive power of that sea wave could have easily wiped out an entire small town.

That incident was caused by Terrance and Castform testing the power of a move. The destructive power was immense—although it leveraged the inherently terrifying natural force of the ocean, it still demonstrated just how far Castform had come.

In the aspects of fire, ice, and sand, Castform had also made tremendous progress. But the power of water remained its strong suit.

As for Altaria…

Terrance mainly had it practicing Fairy-type moves and control over Fairy energy.

After Mega Evolution, Fairy energy—just like Dragon energy—became one of Altaria’s ultimate trump cards.

The new thing that Altaria mastered after Mega Evolution—namely the capability to imbue Fairy energy into Normal-type moves—was something Terrance regarded as a new Ability altogether.

This new Ability allowed Mega Altaria to harness Fairy energy with maximum efficiency.

With the aid of the “unconventional Z-Ring” crafted from a Sparkling Stone, Terrance could assist Altaria in using Fairy-type “Mini-Z” moves, making Fairy energy all the more important.

Of course, Altaria’s training in other areas hadn’t been neglected either. Its training intensity remained the highest among Terrance’s Pokémon, and its strength consistently placed it at the top of Terrance’s team—even without Mega Evolution.

Now that Mega Evolution had been made public, Terrance was even more glad for having focused these past four months on Altaria’s Fairy energy training.

With Dragon and Fairy type after Mega Evolution, and the added power of “Mini-Z Moves,” Altaria’s Fairy-type moves might even surpass its Dragon-type moves in destructive power—becoming terrifyingly powerful.

Over these past four months, aside from training his Pokémon, Terrance hadn’t neglected his own training during the research process either.

Meditation became an excellent way for him to relieve fatigue from research. After four months, he had also made some degree of personal improvement—reflected in Altaria’s extended Mega Evolution duration and increased number of times it could use Fairy-type “Mini-Z Moves.”

Other than that, Little Vulpix had simply undergone the most basic, standard training over the four months. Being only half a year old, Terrance didn’t impose strict demands on it.

“Rotom Pokédex, once we say goodbye to Professor Kukui and the others, we’ll be heading off to Sinnoh and Hoenn,” Terrance said.

“Sinnoh region, Hoenn region—so exciting, Roto~!” Rotom Pokédex floated beside Terrance. By now, Terrance had grown accustomed to this new companion, who stayed by his side at all times. Not even Beautifly and Swablu back then, or the current Little Vulpix had received such treatment.

Due to Rotom Pokédex’s unique nature, it had become someone Terrance often chatted with.

Whenever he was bored, Terrance found it quite entertaining to have casual conversations with the little guy. And with all of Rotom Pokédex’s many functions, Terrance was becoming increasingly reliant on this little assistant.

“I really should thank Professor Kukui,” Terrance thought to himself.

It was all thanks to Professor Kukui gifting him Rotom—otherwise, his research over the past four months might not have progressed nearly as quickly.

After going to see Professor Kukui one more time, as well as Principal Oak and the others, Terrance found that he truly had no lingering ties left in Alola. That said, he still wanted to acquire more Sparkling Stones, but that would have to wait until he’d dealt with his upcoming tasks.

Before boarding his plane, Terrance went through his luggage and pulled out the Island Challenge Amulet from his backpack, feeling a bit embarrassed as he held it in his hand.

“I totally forgot about this thing…”

In four months, he hadn’t even cleared a single island in his Island Challenge…

He had stalled at the first trial on two islands. On one, he gave up on the endurance contest against Totem Gumshoos and went off to conduct research instead, leaving Gallade behind to train alone.

On another island, he got halfway through, then ditched Beautifly and once again ran off on his own.

Twice… both times unfinished.

“Ahem… Mr. Hala and Mr. Nanu probably won’t mind, right?”

Shaking his head slightly, Terrance stuffed the Island Challenge Amulet back into his backpack, deciding to just keep it as a memento. His first stop wasn’t a return to Hoenn, but rather the Sinnoh region.

He planned to head to Nightmare Island from Sinnoh to retrieve Mismagius.

According to his expectations, Mismagius’s progress likely wouldn’t be any less than Castform’s.

After all, it had access to an entire island’s worth of valuable resources. Just thinking about reuniting with a significantly more powerful Mismagius put Terrance in an even better mood.

The next day, at Melemele Airport.

“I’m boarding now, Master Victor. Let’s talk specifics once I get to Hoenn. Yep, no problem.”

A brown-haired young man with a backpack, speaking into his phone, slowly walked toward the airplane.
