Chapter 129: ’Conversation With The King’

’So... does this mean I was right? It does, doesn’t it?’ Florian blinked, his mind scrambling to process the weight of his realization. His throat felt dry, his palms damp as Heinz’s sharp, unreadable gaze bore into him. That calm intensity was unnerving, like staring into the eye of a storm.

"Why didn’t you tell me?" Florian asked, his voice slipping out sharper than intended, laced with frustration and confusion.

"I was waiting to see if you’d figure it out," Heinz replied evenly, his tone maddeningly composed, as if Florian’s reaction was merely a minor detail in a grander scheme.

’Huh?’

Florian frowned, his thoughts running in circles. "Why, Your Majesty? Does it really matter whether or not I figure it out?"

"It does," Heinz said without hesitation, his words deliberate, each syllable cutting like a blade. "I’m testing your thinking abilities, Florian. Whether or not you’re actually clever. You may be in Florian’s body, and you may not have been involved in what happened to me in my first life, but the truth is..." He paused, letting the silence stretch, his dark eyes narrowing slightly. "...I still know nothing about you."

Florian’s breath hitched at the subtle accusation—or was it mistrust? The words hung in the air like a blade suspended above him, unyielding and poised to strike.

Heinz twirled a strand of his dark hair between his fingers, the casual motion at odds with the weight of the conversation. In his other hand, the papers Florian had handed him lay untouched, as if the king’s focus had long since shifted.

’Of course. Another test.’ Florian clenched his jaw, fighting the urge to let out a weary sigh.

His confusion began to sharpen into frustration. "And now you’re telling me this because?" he asked, his voice carrying a sharp edge.

Heinz’s lips curved faintly, his smile as enigmatic as ever—too vague to be reassuring. "Because you figured something out. Do you understand now?"

The question wasn’t a prompt; it was a challenge. Florian bristled inwardly, irritation flaring as he struggled to maintain his composure. He opened his mouth to reply but faltered, the weight of Heinz’s gaze pinning him in place.

’I should understand. I think I do... but what is he even trying to accomplish?’

"I think..." Florian began cautiously, deliberately slowing his words, "I understand what you’re trying to do, Your Majesty. But I’m not quite sure I see the point."

Heinz raised a brow, his faint amusement only fueling Florian’s irritation. It was as if the king found his struggle entertaining—a game only one of them knew the rules to.

Exhaling softly, Florian pushed his scattered thoughts into some semblance of order. "Could it be that... you want me to figure out what happened to you on my own, instead of you just telling me outright?"

Heinz nodded, the faintest trace of approval flickering in his expression. "You’re starting to get it."

Florian’s chest tightened, his heart skipping a beat at the confirmation. Instinctively, he took a small step back, tilting his head in disbelief. "But... why?" The question slipped out before he could stop himself, his voice tinged with frustration.

Heinz shrugged, his composure unwavering. "You have to figure that out yourself."

The bluntness hit Florian like a slap. He felt his face fall, but he quickly schooled his expression, forcing himself to remain composed. His nails dug into his palms as he struggled to suppress the irritation bubbling inside him.

’I swear, every male character in this goddamn world—except Cashew—has their own unique way of pissing me off and being infuriatingly vague.’

Lucius. Lancelot. Heinz.

God forbid Hendrix decided to show up and add to the chaos.

Florian swallowed the wave of irritation, straightening his back. "Right, Your Majesty," he said, his tone carefully neutral.

Heinz let out an amused chuckle—rare and deeply unsettling. "You seem displeased."

’Is he... teasing me right now?’

"No, I wouldn’t dare be displeased, Your Majesty."

"Oh?" Heinz’s brow arched, his smirk deepening. "You weren’t shy about voicing your issues with my methods earlier. And now you’re being rather submissive."

Florian had to bite back a reaction, his frustration spiking at the word submissive.

’It’s because you threatened me,’ he thought begrudgingly, shaking his head. "I was just in quite a shock."

"Quite a shock indeed. You can watch a man’s head explode but can’t handle a princess crying over a test."

The remark made Florian flinch, a spark of anger lighting in his chest.

’What the fuck? Why does he keep attacking me today? What’s his goal?’

Florian forced a tight smile. "I despise Arthur, Your Majesty. I do not despise the princesses."

"Despite them treating you horribly?"

The comment hit Florian like a whip, and his thoughts froze. ’So YOU are aware of how some of the princesses treated Florian.’

"Not all of them," Florian replied carefully, keeping his voice steady. "Some were just... wary of me."

Heinz’s smirk lingered, his gaze calculating. "And yet, you defend them."

Florian clenched his fists behind his back, the sharp edge of his nails grounding him. ’What game are you playing, Heinz?’

Heinz leaned back slightly, his amusement curling into a faint smirk. "No matter. Like I said, as long as you do as you’re told, you will be rewarded greatly."

The words hit Florian like a sudden jolt. He froze, his mind racing to catch up. Out of all the conversations he’d had with Heinz, this was the first time the king had outright mentioned a reward. Usually, any thought of compensation came from Florian himself, either carefully hinted at or reluctantly brought up.

"I... will be rewarded?" Florian asked, his voice unsteady, betraying his disbelief.

Heinz nodded, his expression remaining calm but sharp, his eyes never leaving Florian. "Of course. Did you think I wouldn’t?"

’Yes, because you’re a bastard,’ Florian thought bitterly, though he managed to keep his face neutral.

"It... just didn’t cross my mind that Your Majesty would consider it," he replied carefully, his words deliberately chosen.

Heinz’s smirk widened ever so slightly, the glint in his eyes becoming sharper, more knowing. "I already know what you’re going to ask for," he said, his tone casual, as though he were commenting on the weather. "After all, you’ve already asked for it once."

Florian blinked, his brows furrowing. "Huh?"

"You wish to go home." Heinz’s voice was smooth, the words carrying a weight that settled heavily in the room. His dark eyes gleamed with something Florian couldn’t quite place—was it amusement, triumph, or something more sinister?

Florian’s breath caught, his chest tightening as the realization set in. His eyes widened slowly, disbelief flashing across his face.

’No way.’

It wasn’t just Heinz’s intelligence—it was the way he wielded it, sharp and precise, like a blade. Florian already knew the king was scarily smart, but this? This was something else entirely.
