Chapter 56: Chapter 17: I’m Really Too Tired
After a moment of disorientation, Lin Miao felt the gravity binding his body suddenly fade away, making his entire body feel light. He blinked and looked around, only to discover that he seemed to have arrived in another world.
No clouds, no blue sky, the entire sky of this world was made up of boundless black night and sparkling stars. In the endless universe, there was only the dazzling hot sun and a faint grayish-blue planet hanging overhead.
The ground beneath his feet was even more soft, made of dust, a casual step could create a deep footprint.
"This... is the surface of the moon?"
Lin Miao stared in a daze at the obvious footprints beneath him, feeling a sense of shock and an inexplicable excitement.
He seemed to understand somewhat the words of that great man from last century.
This is one small step for me, but one giant leap for mankind.
It was the first time humanity extended its reach beyond the cradle in the endless universe.
But unlike the desolate moon Armstrong saw, Lin Miao saw not only boundless moon dust and craters, but also human industrial bases and orbital ports. Buildings bore large ’Orbital Aviation’ trademarks, and there were numerous workers in heavy spacesuits laboring, along with soldiers holding rifles standing guard around them.
This was a giant corporation originating from Africa, the birthplace of humanity, and also where humanity first flew off the planet.
"What are you daydreaming about? Hurry up!"
Lucy thought Lin Miao was scared silly by using the Super Dream headband for the first time, so she simply walked up to Lin Miao and grabbed his hand.
Being dragged along, Lin Miao continuously observed everything around him, marveling at this world seemingly without a doubt of reality.
"No... just somewhat surprised, this... is truly amazing...."
This technology... might be used to train players. After all, as the number of players increases, where can you find so many newbie monsters for them to practice?
With the players’ kill efficiency, it might not take years for the entire population of Night City to be wiped out by them.
The annual death toll lotteries in Night City might not add up to more than what players achieve in a day.
"Haha, you’re like some countryside bumpkin, don’t worry, I’ve adjusted the parameters here, there’s no danger."
Passing by a crater, Lin Miao pointed at those workers in the crater and asked,
"Those people, can they communicate?"
Leading the way ahead, Lucy turned around as if hearing a very funny joke, laughing so hard she couldn’t straighten her waist, squeezing out the virtual drink in her hand.
"Luckily, you’re here with me, if you embarrass yourself at Beauty Bar or other Super Dream experience halls, you might be considered a fool."
If on Earth, Lucy is a bird bound by gravity of that world, then on the moon she would have completely freed herself from the bonds of the old world.
"So it’s not possible...."
Seeing Lin Miao’s disappointment, Lucy could only console him.
"Not necessarily, just needs some very skilled network engineers to design simple interactive programs. But that wouldn’t run on ordinary Super Dream headband computing power, would require a separate server to assist, like what Sega Dali is doing with ’Elf World.’ They’re trying to restore online network games, but it’s meaningless, who would play those lower-tier games with Super Dream existing."
"Come on~ we’re all here, why still act as stiff as outside!"
Lucy suddenly grabbed Lin Miao’s hand. Lin Miao didn’t have titanium alloy bones here, and with one sixth gravity Lucy could easily lead tall Lin Miao in a run on the moon’s surface. Her swift movements were no less than those of some professional athletes, Lin Miao could only try his best to keep up.
In this world where one could leap several meters high, Lin Miao suddenly understood why Lucy longed for the moon.
In this free environment, Lucy seemed to become wild, driving a lunar rover on the moon dust with full throttle, reaching speeds impossible on Earth at 500 km/h. If Lin Miao hadn’t grabbed the railing tightly, he might almost have been thrown out, with Lucy’s excited screams all around his ears.
"No wonder you drove my car like that, you must’ve thought it was a lunar rover, right?"
"Haha, don’t you think this is fun? There’s no NCPD here, no traffic rules, no corporations, nothing, you can do anything!"
"Phew...." Lin Miao sat on the dust, savoring the thrill from before, not denying, "It’s indeed kind of interesting...."
The feeling was even more thrilling than his first firefight, no wonder so many people are addicted to Super Dream.
He grabbed a handful of dust, slowly letting it fall before him, watching as the tiny dust descended slowly. Lin Miao had heard before that the lunar soil contained abundant Helium-3, an excellent nuclear fusion fuel. However, though the world had established moon bases, the first nuclear fusion power plant was yet to be built.
Lin Miao knew it wasn’t due to a lack of technology.
Rather, someone was suppressing the birth of such technology.
Biotechnology, Peizhuo Petrochemical, Soviet Petrochemical, along with numerous energy and industrial companies didn’t wish for this pseudo-infinite energy to be born, so they deliberately ignored this technology.
Whoever touches it dies.
