Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 916 - 916: Bravery
Loimos could feel that on the other side, the troops of the vanguard were not exactly dominating the battlefield, although they held a clear advantage when it came to regular soldiers against regulars warriors, the higher echelon however, it was another story entirely, the lieutenants of the vanguard were indeed powerful and resourceful undeads, but they could not compare to the Emerald Heralds and Divine Dancing Priestesses at all.
The disaster beasts were faring better, but even then, the creatures Loimos nurtured were powerful for certain, but they lacked in combat experience, having not had many occasions to put their abilities to the test so far, and even then, against the two ancestors of the realm, they could not hope to snatch a victory anyways, the sun ancestor and beast ancestor were forces to be reckoned with.
The great beasts could only make use of their innate durability or swiftness to hold on and stall them.
So he did not waste any time, and rose the scythe in his left hand, which caused the many locusts of famine and pestilence to grow agitated as he gave them an order, and in just a few instants, they had spread out all over the place, famine caused the plants it passed close to to swiftly die and wither away as all of the stock nutrients they had were drained away, whilst pestilence caused rot and disease to spread, causing the apparition of undead beasts ridden with all sorts of plagues, everytime a locust spread its attributed aspect of the apocalypse, it would multiply, in just thirty seconds, swarms of great density were spreading in every direction.
The soil was losing its fertility, turning dry and barren, only to turn into a corrupted version soon after, in this manner, the ambient life was swiftly being extinguished, although the realm and its spirit life were working against that process, and surprisingly, showed the capability to reverse the effects caused by aspects of the apocalypse, the locusts were too numerous, causing the life force hanging in the air and soil to be dwindle, Loimos aiming to use that fact that detect the life force of Milo, as no matter what Toby might have done to conceal his friend, it would not resist the effects of famine and pestilence.
It was a shame that Loimos could not push it further and summon the harbingers as well, their abilities would certainly have been useful to him right now, but alas, being able to call upon any amount of his apocalyptic powers was already a miracle.
In the meantime, Loimos sprouted rotten insectoid wings that swiftly turned into blurs as they took him off the ground, his skull turning to survey the area whilst his body remained in place, but soon enough, the undead had to assume that the otherworlder had possessed incredible means to hide Milo.
Toby was far from being very powerful, his special system had not proven very efficient in helping him to grow in strength, so he could have only made use of those peculiar items that he had earned through his system, and it was doubtful that he could have hidden Milo very far from where Loimos had intercepted him.
Even if one assumed that Toby had had the guts to run back toward the undead after hiding his friend, even with the usage of some of speed boosting item or potion, it seemed doubtful that Toby could have gotten further that the locusts could search, so either Loimos's assumption was wrong and Milo had been taken much further away, or the item or whatever used by Toby was not quite as simple as one might imagine.
But it was no problem… Loimos was aware of what he was dealing with, the gold wielded by Milo was an imitation of the golden energy wielded by Sonnenträger, the latter was considered to be 'The First And Only True Hero', and the undead even suspected that the term of hero had only gained in notoriety because of Sonnenträger, as such, the unique energy the man had wielded obviously leaned toward those of good, who did the supposed right thing.
Of course, said right thing was biased toward a living outlook on the world…
Knowing this, the skeleton could try to get Milo to come forward, or wake up by simply doing something of great infamy, if the gold lived up to its reputation, then the living would know and take action to stop him…
Loimos soared through the air, already knowing exactly what act of infamy he should do to maximise the chances.
The pure undead landed in front of a wooden house, within were six different life signatures, each vibrant and growing.
With a flick of his hand, Loimos tore the door right off, laying direct sight upon the owners of these life forces, the great battle had taken all of the available forces to defend against and had been required to act immediately, so the children of warrior couples had to abide alone for a while.
The instant Loimos ripped the door open however, a small wooden sword came flying his way, bouncing against his skull before crumbling to rot and dust… Seemed like one of them wished to lead by example.
Lizi, the eldest, put herself in between the pure undead and her siblings, looking as pale as a sheet and trembling like a leaf in a storm, still, the little girl, not even a decade old yet, stood her ground, as though Loimos could not kill them all instantly regardless, but the ones in the back he lucky, to make sure that Milo's gold would react, Loimos would kill them one by one, starting with the one who had stepped forward.
Without hesitation, he rose the war scythe and thrusted it at the small girl, intending on starting by severing an arm, only for his movement to abruptly stop.
It was like the air had grown solid…
Loimos was flung right out of the house.
Helena floated down from the sky, looking like she had marched through hell to get here, frankly, it was unexpected for her to manage to escape Eclipse, the grand roc held sovereignty over the air and sky, be it natural, magical or otherwise, the winds were supposed to obey him first and foremost, so even with the barrier close-by, Helena should not have been able to escape the disaster beast.
But here she was.
She had actually managed to overcome Eclipse and come back.
Though it had clearly been a hard-fought victory, even with her excellent healing capabilities, she was covered in cuts and had lost a lot of blood, having burned through the limits of healing her body could go through in such a short amount of time.
She spat a mouthful of blood in his direction.
"You're not touching a single of their hair" she said, but Loimos did not respond and merely pushed the war scythe and scythe together, causing only the former to remain in his grasp.
And then, he surged forward.
