Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 914 - 914: One Item
The area exploded with a bright glow as the life force, originally, just as stacked together and dense like the earth below, once a brief instant passed, the life force wanted to expand and spread like it normally should, engulfing from the carver and skeleton, the surrounding area blooming with vitality, even Arzt was blinded by the sheer amount of life force that he manifested.
For a few moments, everything was simply bright, he felt invigorated as the life force washed over him, knowing that what he was experiencing was certainly far removed from what Loimos currently was enduring.
But despite it all, the emerald folk felt a slight tremor course through the ground, and in the next instant, a rib-like spike emerged from the soil he had landed upon after transforming part of the ground by changing its name, the bone spike stabbed right through his left calf, its curvature making it difficult for one to move away after being stabbed.
Just as Arzt took that information in, he noticed the life force in front of him parting ways- Or rather, a path being cut right through it, the way being cleared with the same efficiency as someone slashing tall grass down with a scythe, the undead emerging with his helm split apart into a horrifying maw, ready to bite down on the living's head.
The rib having been in direct contact with him, he was able to change its name and step back, the bone crumbling to dust as the living basically threw himself backward whilst swinging his blade, the hasty motion was easily evaded by the undead, who ducked close to the ground and continued to move forward by crawling along the soil like a wild beast.
Arzt could not exactly dodge and move around swiftly with a hole in his left calf, the spike had pretty much completely severed some of the muscles there, just putting pressure on that leg were painful, and the bleeding was extensive, but the living did not give in to panic and instead reached to grab something in his pocket, clutching whatever that was tightly before chucking them right at the approaching undead.
What he brought out turned out to be simple pebbles, smaller than someone's nail on their pinky finger, but having changed the names of these pebbles, rather than harmless bouncing against the stalwart defences of the undead, they were launched out into a cone-like shape, absolutely ripping through everything they encountered at high speed, leaving small, but deep holes into the ground, and into Loimos, who was momentarily slowed down by the attack.
The emerald folk used this opportunity to tap his sword against his wound, causing it to magically disappear in an instant before moving back several more steps whilst Loimos quickly recovered from the damage and continued to move forward, moving at odd angles through the trees, switching in between running like a humanoid, and like beast.
Arzt did the same, dodging and weaving through the various spells made using varying types of energy, these were less powerful than when he combined everything together, but certain of these energies were hard to take notice off when used individually, even without the undead taking special measures to make them harder to detect, one of such spells grazed the living's face, and nearly poisoned his inner energies.
Prompting him to be more aggressive, swinging at various trees, using the splinters as projectiles like before, but the undead weaved past each of them, even sliding upon the ground whilst revealing a condensed sphere of black blood in one of his hands, which he simply pinched, firing a piercing drop through the air.
Since trying to block it was too risky, as Arzt felt that this thing was not easily dealt with if it were to actually get into contact with him, so he put everything he had into dodging, basically throwing himself to the ground to avoid the attack that would have put a hole right through his forehead otherwise…
'Wait, if that attack is so potent- Why did he not aim from my chest, where I would have had a harder time dodging it?' that thought only surfaced once his back was against the ground, and then he felt the slight tremor caused by the stomping of Loimos's foot, the singular action he needed to activate the signature attack of Gravelord Dracula, causing several spikes of bone to erupted from the ground, some straight, some bent like ribs.
And with his back directly against the ground, Arzt could feel several of those spikes beginning to push against his skin and draw blood as they emerged, he could only orient his body differently as they stabbed right through, barely managing to avoid having holes put into his brain and heart, but one did manage to put a gash right into the side of his neck, blood was pouring out, and that was without mentioning the other organs which had been penetrated.
One of his lungs was absolutely unusable right now, but Arzt, with blood stained teeth, smiled nonetheless, for he was not dead just yet, although he had been put on his back leg much earlier and quicker than he had would have liked or expected, it was still salvageable, he would have wanted to at least push Loimos to reveal more of his tricks before using his own…
The living could see clearly as the undead was simultaneously preparing to unleash a powerful spell to finish him off, and also preparing to simply stomp down upon his body, it was all going to happen in a mere moment, but Arzt had already prepared for this ahead of time.
Changing the name of things was much more difficult than giving something a name, the more time an item or thing had existed for, the harder it was to change its name to something, or at least, it was far harder to make the new name last before the original one came back.
And also, it was complicated to change the name of something many people knew, and it also mattered the strength of the targeted thing or person- So naturally, for Arzt changing anything relating to Loimos was incredibly difficult to do on the spot, especially since the undead seemed to instinctively resist it.
So the living could only rely on using other items which he had changed the names of.
When it came to pebbles or splinters, they were created from the crushing of a rock or tree, so they were basically brand new things, easy to modify and grant exceptional names on the spot.
Since the very beginning however, there was something in Arzt possession which he had been maintaining a new name for, an originally simple item that he had acquired and spent much time interacting with, normally, which a lot of time, he would be able to make a new name last, but here, it had required his focus.
Now, he just needed to remove one word from the name of that object…
