Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 881 - 881: Unbreakable
In the meantime, Artazun was still brawling with the old stone knight, and the priestess seemed to be taking far too great of an enjoyment in it, allowing the cyclops to land multiple consecutive blows with a frightening smile lining her bestial features, but most concerningly, even as Garkap but his utmost into his blow, he sensed that no damage whatsoever was dealt, although he was amongst the most recent additions to the ranks of the lieutenants, and was thus not quite as experienced as the rest, he was still no pushover.
The old stone knights, which he had come to personally lead, specialised in the control of a special kind of stone that was basically bound to them, he himself was especially suited for that caste as his very bones were made from that stone, adding to that the fact that he was a type of cyclops and basically a giant, his raw, natural strength should be higher to begin with than most of the lieutenants.
Yet, it felt like he was the one having damage inflicted upon him everytime he struck the priestess, the lioness was just taking the hits like they meant nothing, and even after several consecutive blows, it did not seem like her defences were getting any lower, her flesh remained just as tough, and her bones just as resilient.
And this, somehow, seemed to be making her happy- Happy might actually be an awfully wrong term to describe it, but the cyclops felt that he should not acknowledge what he believed it was that he was seeing on her leonine face.
'Planning on just standing still? You will regret it!' as he threw another punch, he manipulated the stone that was covering his right hand and wrist to shift into the form of a blade, concentrating all of the force into a singular, small point, also circulating his inner mana to put everything into augmenting the penetrating power of that attack.
Much like Frenand, Garkap wasn't much a specialist when it came to circulating mana, but he had practised sorceries to change his elementless, simple inner mana to the precise stone element relating to the stone that he could control, going further down the road of a specialist, and even imparting conditions upon himself that his mana could only be used to reinforce himself, his stone constructs, and that it could not be used to form actual spells.
All of this together, should make for an attack several times more powerful that a full-powered punch, and it seemed like Artazun acknowledged that this one strike had the ability to harm her.
Which is certainly why she finally decided to actually move, and bit down upon the blade, stopping it right in its track, and before the lieutenant could control the stone to try and extend it further into her mouth, the priestess had already acted, kicking off the ground whilst holding onto him, taking them both several meters into the air, before unnaturally managing to twist around, and throw him with force straight back toward the ground.
The cyclops barely managed to pull away before, the priestess crashed down as well, going down on all four, it was a stance that seemed more natural for Artazun, the smoke that always surrounded her body seeming to grow denser and darker.
The undead was unfazed, no intimidation could instill fear him, so he simply rose up to his feet, although it seemed like he had confirmation that had the power to inflict damage, it did not mean much when the only reason he had been landing hits to begin with was because his opponent had allowed for it.
In the very instant Artazun decided to no longer be struck, she was able to evade at pretty much point-blank distance, and counterattack.
Garkap could not rely on his speed or power alone to get somewhere in this confrontation, jumping up a few times, he raised his fists, his fish-like eye reflecting the figure of the lioness.
The undeads had gathered a lot of information on the livings of this realm, and also upon their ways of power, sun and beast worship were rather peculiar to begin with.
And also somewhat unpredictable, for example, for beast worshippers, there were basically two paths, you either chose one beast and only commune with that type, or you commune with many beasts, which would either result in your body transforming to greatly resemble that of one beast, and granting you every and each of their abilities and capabilities, or you would end up like a chimaera, not obtaining the full capabilities and powers of any of the beasts, but instead earning yourself a wide array of different tools and transformations.
But actually, it seemed like the late stages of beast worship would end up requiring the same thing regardless.
Which was to transcend the beasts you once communed with, fully melding the bestial nature you acquired and your sapience to become a unique beast, as it was clear that Artazun was not sharing the appearance of any emerald beast, or rather, she might be compared to some, but it was undeniable that she had become her own entirely separate being.
In short, Garkap could not count on having learned the various species of the realm to guess what she was capable of, because she was a unique and singular breed, she was just Artazun, sole representative of her species.
The lieutenant said something in death tongue, and seemingly all undeads on the battlefield heard him clearly, as they changed their way of doing things, the leonine priestess watching as the undeads stopped trickling toward the frontlines, those still fighting there suddenly unleashing all of their strongest moves all at once.
"Oh, planning a little something, one-eyed boy?" growling, her snarl might look like a smile, but the Divine Dancing Priestess was not happy at all about what the undead was doing.
The cyclops did not provide any response and simply slammed his hands into the ground, raising pillars of stone that rapidly twisted as though not truly solid, launching themselves directly at the living, who pounced forward with feline agility, managing to use the projectiles as platforms to rush down the undead, who swiftly encased himself into a block of stone, before said block erupted with hundreds of thin spikes.
Artazun was unafraid, and charged right through, blasting the spikes and block alike with her head, the undead, using pillars erupting beneath his feet to launch himself into the air.
Manifesting an enormous, stone battleaxe, the lieutenant used all of his might to swing it.
Artazun could easily dodge and use the handle to rush and tear him apart, but his goal wasn't to strike her down, the axe was going to crash into the livings fighting.
The priestess intercepted the axe- Or rather, she jumped so hard against its handle that it shattered instantly, which went beyond what the undead had expected her to do, he hastily manifested a greatsword, but the lioness was too quick for him to intercept, and ran right through him, blasting his lower half entirely.
"Well… I really look forward to your addition to our glorious empire! What strength!" most unsatisfyingly, the corpse did not care for his loss, and showed no regret whatsoever as Artazun stomped the rest of his body thoroughly, requiring several minutes for the lieutenant to turn into black smoke and dissipate.
She looked at the battlefield, the lack of new undeads lessened the pressure significantly, and it seemed like the second battle of the realm was going to come to an end soon…
