Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead
Chapter 862 - 862: Purple

"What Loimos is? Isn't he the pure undead? Your antithesis of sorts? Don't we all know this by now?" Milo asked with a raised eyebrow, the pure living just shaking his head from side to side.

"Ohh… Get a load of this guy over here! Do you really think things can't be this simple? How long have you been alive for? Nothing is simple! Everything is complicated! Someone trying to rise in power like you should know, the countless different types of energy, the countless different ways of power… Our very world is simultaneously governed by unbreakable rules, and lawless, sometimes, both at the same time, and in the same place… Idiots like us should have since long given up on any notion of 'normal', only the insane and intellectuals are stupid enough to try to understand" Thanatok laughed heartily.

Milo was not sure he appreciated being called an idiot, but Ynigós was right, the world they lived in felt as though it was constantly trying to surprise and catch them off guard, for Milo and many others, who had lived in a single village or town for most of their lives, learning that sometimes a step could cause the sun you were used to to just faded away, only to be replaced by another that looked totally different was mind numbing, for example.

The amount of things that Milo would have once considered anomalies or simply impossible had turned out to be normal things.

"Alright, alright… I get your point, but how does that apply to Loimos? By all means, he is an undead, I doubt he is secretly alive or something…"

"That would be funny, but no… Do you know of the one they call 'The Defiler Of The Holy'?"

"You are not switching subjects again, are you?"

"Rest assured"

Milo sighed heavily, not sure if he could trust this man to not ramble off in the wrong direction.

"Well… I have heard of the name a bit… I know that he is like the ancestor of the defiler- Wasn't he defeated by you or Maiele Liameilos?" he replied, scratching the back of his head, the blasphemer was an old piece of history, and one that had only remained well-known due to those who claimed to be inheritors of that original defiler's will.

"Actually, it was neither me nor her- But what I am getting at, is that during my second fight with Loimos, I realised something, you know, I was there, looking at the light that comes from his eyes, you see what I mean? That purple glow of his, weird colour, wouldn't you agree? When you look at it, you just feel like you are staring at something that shouldn't exist, it just feels like this particular shade of purple should be impossible"

Milo nodded, he had seen that glow as well, though, he hadn't given it much thought.

"Well, I remembered something, although I was the one to defeat the heretic, I did get to face him in combat a few times, and during one of such occasions, I knocked his mask off, wouldn't you know it- The eye he had left was of that exact same shade" Thanatok gestured with his hands, miming an explosion occurring from his head accompanied by the appropriate mouth noise.

Milo stayed silent for a few seconds.

"Loimos is The Defiler Of The Holy?"

"Don't be silly, they don't look alike at all!"

"Loimos is a skeleton, and I assume that the heretic wasn't, so…"

"Well, the heretic was indeed a living, but he was like two and a half meter tall, his teeth were sharp, but not nearly as pointy as Loimos's, and also, his left eye was missing, and the injury had turned nasty, to the point where you could see his freaking skull, and it was nothing like our favourite corpse's…"

"No, this goes beyond them being the same person- I could tell that after he defeated me for the second time, the one to give answers to my interrogation was that eldritch deity I mentioned, he gave me his name, but the last time I said I aloud, my organs exploded and all my teeth feel off, amongst other things… So just use your imagination"

The pure living cleared his throat.

"So, after meeting with God, which, whilst nice, didn't allow me to learn much, he ran me in circles and did nothing but joke around the whole time instead of answering questions… I encountered that eldritch god, a pleasant fellow, he snapped his fingers, or tendrils, and took us both to a nice room with tea"

"And there, he transformed into a gentleman, and guess what?"

"What?" Milo said, wishing that Thanatok would just get straight to the point.

"Purple eyes! The same colour again! In fact, he looked a lot like the defiler in looks, you could have passed them off as brothers without problem!"

"He said that he, the defiler, and Loimos actually shared more than just an eye colour, listen attentively, Milo- They are apostles, or holders, of what you might say? I wasn't allowed to learn, from what I understood, each of them are sort of a special existence to begin with, all three of them were always supposed to exist, but as they first stepped into reality at their birth or time of creation, that unknown force got involved on top of it, I am not sure what it does exactly, but apparently, one who is chosen in this manner is guaranteed to become immortalised"

Milo scratched the side of his face.

"I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything… But how does that help with anything? Sure, Loimos is some sort of chosen one, I can believe that, I guess… But it doesn't tell me anything actually relevant or a weakness, it's like if I revealed that I was raised in a village, it's information, but it matters to nothing" he said with a neutral expression.

The pure living shook his head with a smile.

"I learned much more than that, this is merely the introduction, Milo! Naturally, it doesn't matter much as I said, purple light or not, Loimos was always doomed to come into existence as the pure undead, and I can bet that everything would gone the same way regardless, but you see- That kind fellow was rather talkative, I think that like me, he just wanted someone to share some knowledge with"

"Are you sure you can trust him though? Loimos is trying to slaughter all life, The Defiler Of The Holy attempted to purge all that is divine and was able to force the gods into silence by cutting off their link to everything outside of their divine realm… Don't you feel like they are all villains?" not to mention that the one Thanatok was getting his information from was a whole eldritch deity from the cosmos, Milo wasn't quite certain what that really meant, but it was definitely significant, Loimos was a threat to the world, but this guy was a being from beyond this world, why would he be so kind as to give information so willingly?

Ynigós shrugged his shoulders.

"He seemed like a pretty cool guy, it's enough for me"
