Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 860 - 860: Fields Of Green
Milo opened his eyes, and found himself lying on his back, soft sunlight was falling upon him, and the soft grass below soothed his weary body, Milo did not think that he had ever been so mangled before, even his fight with Loimos had not resulted in such dire injuries, his right arm had been thoroughly broken, his left hand had been chewed upon and ripped off… He was missing a few teeth and he had lost so much blood, he didn't even know how he was conscious right now.
Safe to say, Milo felt extremely bitter right now, Frenand… The lieutenant was strong, dreadfully so, in terms of pure skill, he might have even been a match for Pierre-Ornée, and his brute strength, it wasn't actually fathomless, not at all, but being an undead, he could exert it to its maximum potential at all times, without stop, and even during the smallest of movements, even if thrown off balance… Milo- The livings, could not do that, their true, maximum strength, was nearly certain to cause damage to themselves, or exhaust them rapidly at the very least.
But nonetheless, even if by all accounts, Milo had faced an enemy of dire strength, it was hard to admit the fact that in the grand scheme of things, Frenand was hardly a high-ranking undead, and Milo had still lost anyways, even with multiple strokes of luck, he had ended up beaten and at his mercy.
If anything, the living had only escaped with his life because the undead had seemingly deliberately spared him, it was obvious, there had been multiple occasions for Frenand to finish the job, but he had not, whether it was because of his rather strange personality, or because something else had been planned, Milo could not know for sure.
'Where am I?' as he sat up, he looked down and found that both his arms were perfectly fine, in fact, there was no blood on him, his clothes were intact and it felt like he was perfectly rested.
Standing up in a hurry, he realised that something was wrong, the soft grass he had been lying upon- It was green, not bright blue like in the Emerald Realm, the sun, it was yellow instead of green, his surroundings were not at all the right ones.
'Am I in another one of their replica realms or whatever?' this was Milo's first thought, as he looked in every direction, realising that he was standing atop a small hill, overlooking endless fields of green, with only a handful of solitary trees populating the horizon.
It did not look like any place he had ever been to before, looking up, all he could see was a brilliant sun and cloud slowly moving through the blue sky, no sign of any undead anywhere nearby, no signs of anything nearby…
'How did I end up here? It was… It was Helena's mana that I sensed slamming into Frenand and rescuing me… So who could I be here instead of in the Emerald Realm?' Milo's confusion was only growing, he turned around one last time only to be startled back as a man was now standing just a few meters away from him.
Milo stayed silent, as he was swift to recognise the man, but that only confused him more.
"Huh… Am I dead? Is this the afterlife?"
"This is not one of the afterlifes available, this… I have no idea what this is to be honest, probably something that lunatic cooked up" standing across from Milo, was a man he was certain had died, and not in an ambiguous manner, he had died and his remains had fallen apart for multiple people to see, typically, people did not just walk that off.
"Alright… Then what the hell? You are absolutely dead, Mister Thanatok Ynigós… Loimos definitely killed you"
"That is correct, he killed me twice, in fact! But as you can see, I survived- Or rather, when I die, I don't really die, get what I mean?"
"No"
Thanatok waved his hand dismissively.
"I am the pure living, if I died when killed, I wouldn't be deserving of holding devouring life, you could say that I am amongst those who are immortalised, although I can't just waltz back into the world to go and punch Loimos in the face a bit, I am definitely still alive, and in fact, I am more alive than the other folks that are immortalised… Not that I want to brag"
Milo blinked a few times, he did not remember this guy being so… So like this.
"Alright, alright… What are we doing here anyways? You say that this isn't the afterlife, but you also said that you can't casually come back to the world, but you are here, so am I dead or not?"
"Rest assured, you are still alive, in fact, you are being healed by that healer of yours, what was her name again? Mi… Min… Minni- Minli! Honestly, if I were you, I would have gone for her instead of your current wife, but that's just my opinion- Healers deserve some affection for their work"
"Will you tell me what is going on?" Milo was starting to wonder what the point of this was.
"Heh, I don't know to be honest, I was just minding my own business, you know? Ever since Loimos killed me, for the second time, I mean, I thought : Why don't I use my time to go around? I am amongst those who are immortalised in the memory of everything, and thanks to being the pure living, I can just go around as I wish"
Thanatok Ynigós moved his arms and hands around as he spoke.
"So like a ghost, I sort of floated away from this world to go check some other stuff out, did you know that the empty space beyond our skies is basically a big veil? Well, it isn't, but I don't know how to explain it in better terms, anyways, beyond space, there is the cosmos, not the same thing, not at all!"
"And let me tell you, the cosmos is one hell of a place, it is infinite, literally, everyone- Everything? I asked said the same thing, and in the cosmos, there are a whole punch of worlds everywhere! With their own rules, their own galaxies, of very weird shapes- I always thought our world was a sphere, well, it is rather spherical, but gods is it an ugly one"
Milo just listened silently, as the pure living seemed like he just wanted to spout words.
"And I think that some of the things I have learned could interest you!"
