Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead
Chapter 827 - 827: Distant Scenery

It did not take long for the dark keep to be fully constructed, so little time in fact, that many considered that it might be a mirage or illusion of some sort aimed at making them panic, but there was no room for doubt, the massive block of black stone was absolutely real, standing firmly in the south of the realm, the undeads had placed siege weaponry upon the walls, dug deep moats and filled them with water that they had definitely not sourced from the Emerald Realm, festering with countless corpse abomination.

Though, the undeads themselves did not really show themselves much, what looked like regular workers and soldiers never lingered around for more than three hours at a time before being replaced by another, and the only ones that seemed to openly move around were those whose appearance made it obvious that they weren't regular grunts.

"Looks like it's working pretty well, not that there is any reason for it not to work as intended"

"Better be safe than sorry, but just because it works doesn't mean that we can relax, they built that giant thing in under a week, that's absolutely insane, the sheer number of people needed to do that so efficiently is astronomical, the soldiers in white were numerous already, but it seems like their masters are even more plentiful than that"

"Should we attack them right now?"

"I think we should wait for them to make a move first, that places of theirs is a deathtrap for sure"

"The beasts of the area have decided to relocate, if even the beasts are unwilling to stay close to them, we should follow their example and not approach for now"

The people discussed, everyone aware that the presence of the dead within their realm meant trouble, it was the most popular subject of discussion, especially due to the fact that the undead stronghold was visible at nearly all times, standing as a grim omen of what the future might hold, however, no one was afraid or desperate, they did not fear the enemy, they were prepared and ready to defend their homes, and with the two ancestors amongst them, this was further reinforced.

Emerald Heralds and Divine Dancing Priestesses were remaining confident as well, the situation might seem grim, but they trusted in their ancestors, in the land itself, in the spirit life that permeated the realm, and naturally, in themselves as well, becoming a part of the small group they formed came with more than just status and power, it came with a responsibility to protect those below you, to inspire them and to never falter.

Even if they couldn't deny that the first display from the undead had taken them aback, although they had heard from the people that had come from outside that the undead were an incredibly swift and efficient bunch, knowing and witnessing were two completely different things, not to mention that the scale of what had been created left even those who had seen the continental war against the dead dumbfounded.

Back then, the undeads had not built anything that big, or at least, they hadn't built anything like this that they could have seen, what in damnation did Viridis look like nowadays? Was even a trace of what had once stood upon the land still recognisable?

"Say, Hirzartanli, should we directly intervene with maximum violence, or should we behave ourselves and try to be diplomatic first?"

"Maximum violence? I wouldn't be expecting such language from the 'kind sun', back in the days, I would have said to just maul everything to bits and ask questions later, but I have matured and am no longer a feral beast with only devouring and dominating in mind, I am actually quite curious about how these undeads are like"

"Me too, actually… The fellows from outside the realm seem terrified of them, but the stories they tell make it sound like those monstrous corpses are actually quite verbose and prone to discussion, I mean, the big bad over there was even mentioned to be have been working as a messenger at some point"

"From what I understand, the undead genuinely believe that being dead is better than being alive, they view their actions as bringing salvation to the living, it is a bit hard to argue with those who believe themselves to be heroes and saints, they see us as misguided lambs in need of proper direction"

"The outsiders are firmly convinced that it is all nonsense and vile lies, but I have the feeling that the undead are genuine in their beliefs…"

"Maybe that discussing with their leader would shed a light on it all"

The two of them were sitting upon the edge of the tallest tower, looking at the distant horizon like it was just within reach.

"Perhaps he is actually very handsome?" Hirzartanli said with a sigh.

"Still disappointed that our little hunt didn't bear fruits?" Solzmimi smirked.

"The males are much too intimidated to properly fulfill their purpose, I didn't even let my bestial presence out at all, they shouldn't have even known who I was!"

"You must realise that even in your simplest form, you are abnormally attractive"

"I know, I know… The beast worshippers have instincts that allow them to put two and two together and realise that I am concealing my strength, and the sun worshippers are just little bastards… You weren't any more successful than me"

"They can't handle my sense of humour, they don't get to handle me"

Hirzartanli laid on her side, head resting against her hand.

"So, should we pay a visit to the unlawful tourists? If anything, whatever happens, it should at least be interesting"

"We have nothing better to do anyways, and I very much want to see what the one they don't want to speak the name of, looks like" Solzmimi stood up, robes fluttering in the wind "He is deemed to be a peculiar character, at the very least"

"Have you not spotted him in the light already?"

"Not at all, quite a few of those undeads bathed in light already, but none of them was nearly powerful enough to warrant that much fear from our fellows, though I must admit, if the guys with those veils on their heads are what I think they are, then the minimum amount of strength required to be a basic soldier is quite high for the undead, nothing much to speak of in the grand scheme of things, but definitely impressive in context, they are far more capable than the soldiers in white, and it's not even close"

"I am more interested in the exotic beasts that they have access to, I smelled a lot from the underground, and there was even one taller than any other I know"

"Then let us go" and with a small flash of emerald light, both ancestors vanished.
