Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead -
Chapter 814 - 814: Raven
Without hesitation, Milo manifested a mana bullet formed from gold, and fired it directly at the machine, only for the rapid spell to pop out of existence and be replaced by another one of those vile creatures whose very existence seemed to cause them endless amounts of pain.
He turned his gaze to Basmi, her ability seemed to not just be able to switch the position of two beings, but of spells as well, but he could not question the nature of her ability for too long as a swift figure moved directly behind him.
Milo channeled mana into his forearm and blocked the blade's swing, which was unable to even put a shallow cut upon his skin.
"You may be at the top of the danger list, Golden Boy, but don't even think that it means that you can take us on all at once" Irtop channelled everything he could though his body and sword, but was still coming short.
With a sudden motion, Milo pushed him back, but was instantly forced to dodge as a flood of flames came from him, and where he evaded to, Milo was instantly greeted by a massive hammer swung at his side, but he already knew what Aegli's deal was, and he knocked the oversized weapon into the ground with an elbow strike, swiftly reaching out to grab the girl by the collar, only for her to once again be switched away, but not with a random beast this time, instead, he found himself reaching to a nightmarish vision as Alila was already closing in around him.
Her teeth tried to sink into his flesh, but like Irtop's sword, were incapable of actually dealing damage, once again he erupted with a flash of gold, plastering the blonde girl against the ceiling and surroundings, and it was then that he realised why she was able to so easily regenerate and use her ability despite getting imbued with golden mana, in fact, it explained why Irtop's sword had not been shattered during its brief contact with Milo's arm.
Normally, anything or anyone imbued with gold would have their defences crumble and experience an effect equal if not greater, than if they had been infested with their every weakness at once.
But it was not occurring, for Basmi was switching the golden mana to go into her allies with something else, he wasn't certain what it was, but he clearly felt his mana vanishing only to appear a distance away.
'I'll have to rely on brute force then… But will that even work here? I need to have the golden mana take effect instantly, like when I fought him…' although he made it seem easy, actually controlling and manipulating the golden mana to a good degree was far more complicated compared to regular mana, the enemies were numerous, and not only knew how to counter him, but also had the means to do so.
Alila seemed unkillable as it was, Babriel seemed to require extensive amounts of mana to actually damage… And every time he tried to commit to an attack, his target would just be switched out by Basmi, those three girls alone were a huge pain to deal with, and they weren't alone in the least.
With swift punches, Milo deflected bolts fired by Alici, their scorching temperatures not a problem for him, even if they were geared to affect the soul as well.
Same for the soul bullets from Betil, but they still served to distract him and prevent him from attacking the machine, which, much to Milo's surprise seemed to getting further and further away from them, the very room contorting and distorting itself to put the loud object out of harm's way.
He attempted to cast another mana bullet, but in the way, a huge, ape-like atrocity with the head of a hound, lacking in skin, every muscles and tendons exposed to the outside air, this creature that should not exist suddenly took form and shielded the machine from view, its source being the creepy-looking, light purple-haired girl whose face was hidden amongst the sea that was her hairstyle, Almiel was the one that was creation this vile creatures that were serving as sacrifices in most of the switches, and now, she manifested a veritable monster alongside a plethora winged rats.
Milo fired his bullet anyways, piercing the monstrosity, but the machine was no longer where it had been moments ago, the creature seemed to be dispersing after being slain, but Milo had no time to wait, turning around to parry another attack from Irtop, and then from Ayelah, the two working in tandem like they shared the same mind, with a counter blow, Milo shattered Irtop's right arm, grabbed his sword and plunged it right through Ayelah's knee, his next move was interrupted as both were exchanged with abominations on the verge of exploding, their disgusting bile slid across Milo's body and clothes as a layer of gold stopped into from actually entering into contact with him.
'She did not switch them fast enough to prevent harm… Is it because I was too quick this time, or something else?' he surged forward, evaded the fleshy horror that was Alila, trying to reach Basmi instead, but was stopped as he stepped on an invisible bear trap, the object, deeply imbued, if not outright made from soul energy, closed on his ankle, this time again, no damage was actually inflicted, and localised surged of gold caused the trap to be destroyed.
But much to Milo's dismay, before the trap could be fully destroyed, it was replaced by a mass of flesh that closed back in onto his legs, holding him place for a second longer, enough for his enemies to reposition themselves and begin a new assault.
He evaded Aegli's hammer that came falling down from above, twisting around and managing to kick the girl into her sides, sending her flying into a wall, then dodging and close quarter's attack for Alici, her arm coated in flames, picking the member of the Soror up and just flinging her across the room.
Then turning around to see that Irtop was back, even with a mangled arm and no weapon, the soldier moved in fearlessly, and Milo punched at his face, but only hitting a foul beast.
'Is it that when I go for a lethal strike, they are automatically switched?' he was fairly certain that Basmi could exchange positions whenever she wanted, but perhaps there was something else at play.
Not that Milo had much time to figure out this mystery, he once again blew Alila apart, and just avoided Babriel entirely, still aiming to destroy the machine for good, which was now much further away than before, the room had been elongated severely.
As he ran however, one of the other soldiers got in the way, he prepared to simply tackle them aside, regardless of whether or not they would be switched with a creature or something else, but when a switch did occur, it wasn't what Milo expected.
Finding himself face to face with the leader of the Soror, her glowing, bright blue eyes announcing nothing good, the girl with the raven black hair frowned, and her eyes became so awfully bright that it was blinding.
'...That's not good…'
