Chapter 146: To Grieve For A Living Person

Solaria was in disbelief as she looked at Dora, tears shining in her eyes.

"D... Dora?" she said.

"Yes... um... That should be me. So, who are you exactly?" He scratched his neck and looked around. "What is this place? Who are you?".

With tears in her eyes, the Princess stared at him, her lips trembling.

"Who... am I? It’s me, Solaria... the Princess... we trained and lived together. Look..."

She put a hand in her pocket and pulled out a photo that made Candace tremble.

"Look... We took this photo two years ago... It was a party we threw for you."

Mercy, Zuri, and Freya turned their heads toward her, feeling a biting sensation in their chests.

Dora took the photo and looked at it carefully while Solaria introduced him to each person in the photo.

"You see, we were very close. This one is your sister, and I took her phone number to ask her for some information about you. She took the opportunity to ask me to stop the teachers from her school... She’s funny, isn’t she?"

"... This woman."

"Hm... Oh, you mean Mrs. Malia? Do you remember her? She’s your mother, and this one is Wendy, your sister."

Dora, increasingly confused, frowned.

"My sister? Her?"

The room was silent except for the sound of a cold wind passing through it. Candace stood there with a blank expression on her face, her head lowered.

"Ten years, Solaria, we took ten years from him. Wendy is ten this year, Dora won’t remember her."

Solaria looked at the dean with a mix of sorrow and desperation.

"Then... Please, let me stay here and help him remember who he was. Let me be a part of his life."

She looked at the dean with pleading eyes, but Candace fixed her gaze on the floor.

Solaria finally burst into tears, supported by Eryl, who helped her get up.

They headed for the door, Eryl turning for one last message.

"If I had known things would turn out this way, I wouldn’t have done it... I’m deeply sorry."

"It’s no use; Dora, Midgard, and Elizabeth are already dead, " the dean said, clenching her fist.

Eryl closed her eyes and left the room, followed by the princess, Moonra, and the other maids.

Dora continued to look at the photo as if hypnotized.

"That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard, Iris; how could you let that happen?!" Lisa screamed.

The student council members huddled together in a dimly lit room, their faces etched with concern as they peered through the window at Dora, who was sitting with Candace in the hospital garden. The garden was a small oasis of tranquility amidst the sterile hospital environment, its lush greenery offering a glimmer of hope in the midst of the students’ worry.

Iris stood by the window, her eyes fixed on them. Her face was a mask of sorrow, and her mind reeled with the weight of what had happened.

As she stood there, lost in thought, Lisa approached her, her footsteps muffled by the carpeted floor. She placed a hand on Iris’s shoulder, then, with a quick motion, she shook her by the shoulders.

"Don’t stay silent, dammit! Why did you let them erase his memory? Dora was back to normal; why did you let that happen?! You’re stronger than anyone; you could have helped stop them!"

"Stop them for what?"

Lisa’s eyes widened, her blood boiling in her veins.

"Are you kidding me? Iris, what is this? Dora was our friend. He fought with us, we lived together, and we were important to him! Why did you let this happen?"

Iris turned her gaze towards her, void of any emotion.

"You know the principle of an Avatar and a Sin, right? You know that Greed was too dangerous."

"I do not care!" she grabbed her by the collar. "He healed us, he fought for you! Do you know what he said during the disaster the other day? It was the talk of the group for days. He wouldn’t leave you alone; he wanted to fight alongside you! How could you betray him like that?"

"I already know it."

"Hey?"

The first tear fell on Iris’s left cheek.

"I know what everyone says behind me, don’t worry about it... we learned that Greed could control the memory and the characteristics of its Personas, what did you want us to do? Following blindly because it was too good to be true? Ignoring everything we know about the Sins and regret when everyone would be dead?"

"What’s happened to the most dangerous weapon is the best weapon?... Iris, he doesn’t remember about us anymore; you all killed Dora!"

"You would have preferred that he kill us all?" her voice resonated in the room, startling the other council members.

They looked at the two girls, approaching slowly with anxious looks.

"No fighting. We don’t need that now." A member said from beside Lisa.

The two girls stood face to face, and their intense gaze was enough to pierce one’s soul. The council members surrounded them, but they knew that they wouldn’t be able to stop them once they were unleashed.

Suddenly, Lisa punched the wall, shattering every glass window. She turned her back and strode out of the room, passing by the frightened council members. Iris stood motionless for a few seconds, then she sighed and left the room as well, after giving one last glance to Dora.

On their side, the two Avatars sitting on a tablecloth on the floor were having a discussion.

"I swear, I’ve heard so many new words with you. Everytime I was just a little on your bad side, you would call out my age! I was so pissed."

"Wow, I really doubt I would say something like this, even if we’re supposed to be immortal."

"Oh, trust me. I’ve heard a lot, eh, but don’t worry. I know how to deal with you- this other you."

"Ah, yeah, the Sigma me?... It’s so confusing."

Candace, with her arms crossed, gave a nod of affirmation.

"I know quite a bit about you now. I have this little rascal who has been teaching me everything about you every night."

"Ah, you mean that woman with green hair?" he asked.

"Yes, Midgard. Please don’t forget her name. She has done a lot for both of us," Candace replied, looking at the picture for a moment before coming back to reality.

"Ah, sorry, I got too emotional again. Let’s talk about your mother next. She really..."

"Are you sure her name is Midgard?"

The dean was silent for a moment, surprised by the young man’s strange question. He took the picture from her and watched intensely at Midgard.

"... I remember someone who looks like this, but her name was..."

At the hospital’s entrance, someone was chewing gum while manipulating a device that resembled an orb. The device was broadcasting a tactile hologram similar to a phone screen. After popping a gum bubble, the person pressed the orb, causing the screen to disappear.

"Have you been lost? I’ve been waiting for three hours," she asked.

Behind this person, another individual with a large object attached to her back smirked and replied.

"No, I’m right on time. You were just in a hurry to see him."
